I gave no time qualifier for that request. So putting at less of a priority is not really a counter to my comment, as I simply stated it needs to be done.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

This being one of the pages I had visited the most before my registering to the wiki (I spent exactly two years as a visitor =P), I have been able to distinguish two types of completion: General and specific. General is just that: Every single item, objective and the like factoring into the percentage. The specific or partial completion only takes into account some of the elements, maybe most of them, but definitely not all. In the Metroid Prime games, for example, there is a separate percentage for the pickups and one for the scans. In the 3D Mario games, the only thing into account is the stars collected (it helps that all other collectibles, such as star bits or coins of whatever color they are, are indirectly included into this completion since collecting them is essential to find all stars). In Donkey Kong Country Returns, you only need to beat all levels (which indirectly includes getting all KONG letters) and then again in Mirror Mode. Lastly, Zelda games don't have a percentage at all, only cases when all items of a kind (masks, Gold Skulltulas, figurines, Gratitude Crystals) are collected. Heart Pieces are completely unrelated. Thus, Zelda games may not qualify for this trope.

In a nutshell:

  1. General counter takes everythuing into account.
  2. A completion may be specific in one of three ways: Only some items included, separate counters for specific items, and when there is no official counter, and all that is left is rewards given when all items of a kind are collected. This third type can be removed, since it's essentially Collection Sidequest. The other two types could have a separate section of the page.

A separate trope for "Completion counter" doesn't sound like a bad idea. Games where you can actually go past 100% would be listed as subversions.
