The Great Muppet Caper is my all time favourite of the Muppet Films simply cause the premise is too good to mess up; get a bunch a wall leaning, singing puppets to make an affectionate parody of big studio musicals. How ridiculously awesome is that?!

Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere. My favorite of the Jim Henson era would have to be The Muppet Movie, but after, it's a tie between Muppets From Space or The Muppet Christmas Carol.
I never knew what all the backlash was with Muppets From Space. I saw it on The Hub recently (they're rerunning it a lot for some reason- it's one of the only two Muppet films not owned by Disney), and while I enjoyed some of it, I could definitely tell that something was off.
The only problem I keep running into is "Gonzo's species is supposed to be ambiguous!" and "Too many low-class celebrities as the cameos".
I think it's because the soundtrack didn't have original songs (Gonzo was supposed to sing a reprise of "I Know We'll Get There Someday" from The Muppet Movie again, back when this was going to be a musical), and soul and funk does not mix with Muppets, for some reason. Also, the humor was a bit off.
I know a lot of hardcores aren't huge fans of the post-era Muppet movies, but IMO some of the best are Muppets From Space and Its A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, because they had the some of the best mix between The Muppet Show cast and Muppets Tonight.
Also, are we counting Sesame Street in this? Both Follow That Bird and Elmo In Grouchland were some of my favorite childhood films.

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction. The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper, The Muppets Take Manhattan, The Muppet Christmas Carol, those are like 4 of my favorite movies ever. Constantly breaking the fourth wall, great characters, and absolutely hilarious. After Muppets in space, however, they went downhill fast.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.My favorite is Muppets Take Manhattan, mostly because it had some of the best songs and moments like the first appearance of the Muppet Babies and the epic wedding sequence at the end. I also have a soft spot for anything New York City related.
In terms of the other films. I liked The Muppet movie. It gave us some origins to the characters. Muppet Caper was my least favorite out of the classic era. It was kind of goofy and not as memorable.
The Muppet Movie was OK, but Muppet Christmas Carol was my favorite. Maybe because it's the version of A Christmas Carol I grew up with. I totally thought there were two Marleys!
Gonzo is hilarious in the Muppet christmas carol, and they manage to make Rizzo funny too.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.Gonzo and Rizzo are my fave Crack Pairing Ever!
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.Sadly, that crack pairing is forgotten in The Muppets, but that only formed somewhere after Jim Henson's death with A Muppet Christmas Carol.
Muppet Treasure Island rules. I love, love, love that movie.
He's like fire and ice and rage. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time. Rory punched him in the face."I got cabin fever..."
Liked Christmas Carol and even more so Treasure Island. I know I've seen bits and pieces of the other ones, but it's been a while so I couldn't really tell you about them. Which is the one that had that famous bicycle scene with Kermit and Piggy?
I remember seeing Muppets in Space when younger, and even then, kind of knew it wasn't a great movie.

Muppets Take Manhattan is definitely my favourite. It has the best songs ("You Can't Take No For An Answer", "Saying Goodbye", "I'm Gonna Always Love You") and some of the funniest scenes.
I'm also keen on Muppet Treasure Island. It's an entertaining film and it's also pretty nostalgic for me; it was a pretty big movie the summer when I went on holiday abroad for the first time, and I still remember all the movie posters and TV advertisements from when I was five.
I would love Muppet Treasure Island if it weren't for the rats. They just pop up way too often to make stupid jokes (I know, I know, it's a Muppet movie, but they're annoying, not funny). I definitely think it has the best songs, though.
I will forgive the presence of the rats for one reason:

We have a thread for the upcoming film The Muppets, but not one for the others.
My favorites is probably Muppet Treasure Island. I can tolerate The Muppet Movie but it seemed kind of meh for me.
