Once Upon A Time:

Mage of Life-Breath-Doom
[up]Pretty much, and I wouldn't put past the notion that those delivers are magically unable to want to stay.

I really want to know if anyone bothered to tell Snotty what happened the end of the episode implied that it wasn't the case or he didn't believe it.
"Here to welcome our new golden-eyed overlords," said Addy promptly.

I'm re-watching "Snow Falls" and suddenly I am very curious about Whale's true identity. He lied to Mary Margret about David then immediately calls Regina. Only two other's ever show that level of deference: Hopper and Sydney and both have that explained both in FTL and Storybrook. Whale? Nadda.

And then Whale tries to strangle Regina in season 2.

Oh I say!
We can presume that Whale wasn't normal-human-shaped in the Enchanted Forest (or had his face covered or something), or Charming would have recognized his Storybrooke self. Can anyone think of such a fairy tale character linked to whales other than the maybe-too-obvious Monstro?

[up]Maybe Whale just deferred to Regina because he knew what side his bread was buttered on, but on regaining his Enchanted Forest persona was pissed that he'd been made a lackey? Because Monstro bows to no one, and not just because it's anatomically impossible.
The above post is probably not entirely serious.

Or he was from another kingdom. Like Cinderella's.

I don't think we should assume Charming and Snow know everyone in the Enchanted Forest. That's an awful lot of people. And there are quite a few kingdoms. For all we know, Whale is from Belle or Midas' kingdom. (eta: What AHR said)

And he deferred to Regina because curse. Explanation for everything.

Belle wasn't a princess, just a Lord's daughter.

Speaking of which, The Enchanted Forest sure has a lot of kingdom's: Midas's, Charming's, Snow's, Cinderella's, Aurora's. Plus Mulan's Land, Agrabah, and Wonderland. That's thousands upon thousands of people, how do they all fit into Storybrook?

I think that in terms of people from the outside, Storybrooke must have some kind of Weirdness Censor.

Re Whale, it's too bad that we know he's not the Big Bad Wolf, since that was my first guess (because the wolf is sort of a symbol of lechery, which fits Whale's Handsome Lech persona and possible evilness).

Barring that, perhaps Bluebeard for the same reasons?

Having read some of Fables, I can definitely see influences (in this season, the characters talk about the kindom in the way the Fables would refer to the "Homeland". While I don't think he is Jack, Whale reminds me of him- the character in town who is a sleazy lech who no one likes.

Cinderella's husband wasn't a prince either, IIRC. Just nobility.

Also: Charming definitely didn't know that Jefferson, so we can say with certainty that they don't know everyone.

It doesn't work without the video, but I can't find it on YouTube.

[up][up][up][up] Her dad was still in charge of the defense of a group of people, I fail to see much difference.

Maybe a bunch of the spare kingdoms are with Mulan's group of survivors?

@L Mage: Wonderland seems to be a different world, or Regina wouldn't have needed to hatport. Plus, we know that not everyone from the entire fairy tale world got moved to Storybrooke, or there wouldn't be anyone in that refugee camp.

Places like Agrabah and Mulan's land, where Regina hadn't been and didn't have beef with anyone, might even have escaped unscathed, except for not being able to trade with or contact Europe-fairy-tale-land.

But then how did Jefferson end up in Storybrook? The only way was if wonderland was Cursed too.

Or if just Jefferson was. Regina did promise to make him wealthy, as I recall.

She promised Grace would want for nothing in her life. In theory she made sure Grace had a good life when she went back.

On another note: interesting things I've noticed on my re-watch.

  • When Regina and her father a discussing the possibility of just leaving and not casting the curse one of the points Regina brings up is "My power will be gone!". Given what we learn about Regina's powers so far this season this statement is VERY interesting
  • Rumple claim that Cinderella's Fairy God Mother is patron to King George's family and he wants her wand. This raises two questions: WHY does he want her wand? And more importantly why was the Fairy Godmother helping out Ella if she is Patron to The Charming Family?
  • Speaking of which, Rumple clearly knew that Ella was playing him when he signed the deal but did it anyway. Why? And why did he want Ella's baby so much? Her debt to him ultimately was an amazing advantage and procured him that oh-so ambiguous "favor" but there is no possible way he could have been planning that far ahead...right?

Mage of Life-Breath-Doom
I assumed the cursed somehow reached Jackson through the other dimensions and pulled him to Earth, this is why he could remember, the curse managed to bring him, but didn't had enough power to brainwash him.

Maybe that is how Cora returned to the Enchanted Forest as well.

Mage of Life-Breath-Doom
You know... while I do like the theory "Cora is/was the Queen of Hearts" it occured to me that it wouldn't be impossible for Cora to had end up on Earth, maybe as part of a experiment from Rumple?

...Nah. Wouldn't be as trippy.

And this gives a motivation for the Queen of Hearts to have Regina's dad.
ophelia, you're breaking my heart
I guess it is easier to explain how she would get back to FTL from wonder land than from the real world.

Long Live the King
Now, before it's brought up by anyone else... Emma made a mistake in firing a warning shot not because Ogres have super hearing... It's a mistake because a revolver only has six shots, and she doesn't seem to be carrying bullets on her...

And Snow screwed up by not telling her that guns would be more of a hindrance than a help out in FTL.

Also they killed Lancelot. what. the. hell. do you even realize how undiverse your show is, show. not cool. still holding out hope he's alive somewhere.

[up][up]I disagree with the Snow bit... Emma knows how to use a gun(supposedly), and it's relatively unknown how a gun would be against the baddies of FTL(she never does get a shot off on the Ogre, after all). If Emma feels more comfortable with the gun than with a sword/bow/etc, it'd be better for Emma to have it than to force her to use something different. Especially if Snow is not going to take the time to train Emma prior to going off on the adventure...

[up] But that's her only weapon, besides the dagger. And she might've mentioned something like "loud noises attract the ogres, so be careful with that gun". I'm not saying Emma wasn't being cavalier about the danger, but it's not like Snow tried to wake her up to reality, either. Basically this episode feels like it's just dumping on Emma for trying to use real-world solution to fantasy problems. And whose fault is that, hmm? The character who has no control over her actions or the writers who pull her strings?

Ding-ding! Going down...
Is it necessary to assign blame here?

I thought the Lancelot reveal was hilarious. First with the misdirection, where you're meant to be wondering whether it's Doctor Whale. And then — look, it's not him! He's black!

Stay classy show.

Otherwise, Cora rules.
