There were two good points to end Rumplestiltskin's story. Either at the midseason finale of Season 3, if they wanted him to go out as a hero; or at the end of Season 4, if they wanted him to go out as a villain. Personally, I prefer the latter, because Belle calling him out and kicking him out in the midseason finale of Season 4 was my favourite moment of the show.
But ending Season 4 the way they did - blaming all his action on being the Dark One and acting as though he had no volition of his own - was the worst of every world. He clearly did have choice, and made them, and regretted them, and was unable to overcome his weaknesses, and that was what made his character interesting. And any chance of Belle being involved with him should have been over after the Season 4 midseason finale.
I'm glad I haven't been watching Season 5, because from everyone's description in this thread, the writers have pretty much wrecked both characters.
They aren't wrecked, they're just...trapped.
By their habits, by Storybrooke, and probably by the show.
If Gold had stayed alive, he should have just stayed good. For a while the show seemed to be all about redemption and turning to goodness, but for Rumplestiltskin apparently it's just about other people accepting him as dark.
But maybe at least he'll be a good dark...?
Dark One Emma's as close to good dark as you're gonna get.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Im the only one here who hates neal? I meant he hates his father for abandoned him in the other world and all the jazz but...he left the love of his life AND his sons....and the show never aknowlage he did the same thing as his father and grandfather....ughhhh
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I hate older Neal.
At least younger Neal seemed to have a lot more innocence to him.
Yeah, I kinda dislike old Neal too. Though he did he actually know Emma was pregnant when he got her locked away? It's been so long I can't remember.
Little Baelfire's was so adorable with his 'Papa's though.
I don't think he did and August is the one who forced him away from Neil.
August didn't force Neal. He told him that Emma was destined to be the Savior and that as a bad influence he needed to be gone from her life... so they both decided that framing her and leaving to do a stint in jail would be, character building? That kinda marks them both as asses.
It kind of is, though?
Like, Neal was leading Emma down a pretty rough path. Having him abandon her after she took the fall for him is a pretty effective way of getting her to turn things around without completely shattering her worldview with sentences like "I'm the son of Rumpelstiltskin and this is my friend, Pinocchio."
But is so easily could not have been. Being sent away could have easily been the thing that broke the camels back. Not to mention the criminal records future implications on her employment opportunities. And Neal going to jail for the crime he committed would have removed from his life just as well.
Let's remember that Emma's primary skill in her career is finding people. Neal being in jail does absolutely nothing to keep Emma away from him, since she knows exactly where to find him. Whereas if she's stuck in prison for a few years, his trail will be long cold by the time she's out.
It was a shitty thing to do, but it worked. And if it hadn't, then August was still watching out for her and would have come up with something else.
I just thought about something.
Elliott is Lily's father.

https://www.fanfiction.net/u/548347/Well I just saw a few episodes, let see
So Killian is dark one, emmna is a dark one and rumple memory is dark one....eveyrone is a darkone, everyone!
But serious I love the dark ones, they are just charming and witty with the manner and how casualy wreck everything.it seen the actors just loooove acting as dark one.
So the first dark one is a women...and is black? I dont know if that is good or not....but I dont like her, she is to serious for the role and for know just look like evil zeleena/regina.
Speaking of them, Is dificult to me to see regina speaking about the bad choice of everyone when she spend so damn much time in the show being a shitty chararter, or forgetting she got a second chance thanks to child of their worst enemy.
I dont see the issue with rumple and bella, they broke out but it was good terms after she said he is good man but she cant be with him, it was a very sweet moment and I liked it, it was more that Milah did to him.....
So far the show is still good and Im wating to see what happen next.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"They are the Dark Many.
And Nimoe is more of a dark green, and only because breaking Excalibur did it to her.
As for Regina and Gold, it's just problematic because in our world, the things they've done would get them jailed for like, life.
But they have magic.
And they're main characters.
So it's kind of hard to significantly punish them besides wrecking their romances and killing their loved ones.
so....nimoe is and orc? not that I complain about it....
Ohhh yes, the "Im the main chararter" card, I forgeret it for a second.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Now that it is almost to the return of the series. How do you think that will be the personality of Hades?
I think that Hades will be an Affably Evil Anti-villain, (While that Zeus will be straight Villain)
The CGI Hades Hair looks awful and I'm horribly disappointed they didn't cast James Woods considering how much he loves the character.
It would be very surprising if this show didn't play Everybody Hates Hades straight.
‘My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’Well, this show did forgive evil queen and rumple....twice, and for many Zeus is jerkass god and rapist, so let see how they handle that.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"They are using the Disney movie As their basis so...we'll see I guess.
"If I reach for the stars, you can't hold me back"Hook was an anti-villain, while Peter Pan was a monster.
So perfectly could follow the same route with Hades and Zeus.
They're also both from before the show went all-in on making everyone their Disney versions by doing Frozen.

Well, Brave had the excuse that she wasn't a fairy tale in the first place. And Once's Merlin and Arthur were NOTHING like the Disney Versions so... I feel like Frozen is kind of the odd one out here.
At the very least Mulan is also pretty far from her Disney version at the moment.
True. Part of me is hoping that this Hades is a fakeout and we'll get a surprise James Woods. But Pipe Dreams, right?
"If I reach for the stars, you can't hold me back"
They're still in the town somewhere (usually), they're just not in the plot.
Actually, for as seldom as Storybrooke background citizens show up on the streets, you might think that the only characters who exist in town anymore are the main characters...
The citizens of Storybrooke all left town when they realized how unsafe it was to keep living there.
Or, anybody who still does live there says "Oh no, it's the Savior! Let's get out of here!" whenever they see Emma and never appear again. ;p
