The NFL Thread:

The Trope Seeker
Not to mention that it would't have done a favor to gamblers if they had the 49ers winning by less than 4 points.

So... Mike Brown ultimately decides that a first round draft pick this year, and a conditional second in 2013(it becomes a first rounder if the Raiders win a playoff game between now and then) are worth more than his pride. And thus, Carson Palmer is now a Raider.

The Raiders over-payed... and are clearly following the memory of Al Davis by doing so.

As a Steelers fan, I'm slightly annoyed that Mike Brown finally showed that he has a brain... I was hoping he'd stick to his guns and not trade Palmer for anything...

Well, I've always hated the Raiders, so if they're destroying their future, more power to them I say.

Seriously, though, apparently they won't have any picks in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 7th rounds. Yikes.

Grin and bear it
Yeah, but they're in contention. They apparently feel like they need a good quarterback to carry them through the rest of the season.

I agree that they overpaid, but if it gets them to (and I'm guessing here) the playoffs or even more, it'll be a genius move.
I love the Raiders, so I'm hoping this works out for them. (I was born in California)

They'll be needing a good QB since it doesn't look like Campbell is gonna come back in six weeks and I think Palmer still has a bit of gas on his engine, so he'll go out and play with a big chip on his shoulder.

At least, I feel that he really should, were I in his shoes.

Also, it could be worse. Kyle Boller would be playing.

I'd imagine with how the bengals treated him, I'd be ready and raring to go and with somthing to prove on the order of "fuck you, I'm still a great QB"

which means he pretty much meets the requirements to be a Raider.

Seems to be the Raider's MO...get enough people with chips on their shoulder on one team, and then the rest of the league will fear you because the players have something to prove. It worked well back in the 70's and 80's, and it'll be interesting to see whether or not that can still work in the league nowadays. They look pretty dangerous so far, and I think they legitimately have a chance to challenge San Diego for a playoff spot.

Where the hell did all these Eagles fans come from?

Its what I kinda like about them as a team. They live up to their team mascot in their attitude. Theyre not the nicest team, and certainly not the cleanest playing, but they will come at you all out and pissed off.

as for whether they overpaid, they might have..but then, like has been said, if the new QB works out, then a winning season will be well worth the loss of draft picks. Amusingly it means the bengals also want the raiders to have a winning season, since a winning Raiders season benefits the bengals even more.

... To be fair, I only shake my fist in hate at Tom Brady because he single-handedly made Belichick look like a good coach.

I mean, let's be honest here people. If Bledsoe doesn't get knocked out for the season, the Pats don't even finish that season with a winning record, let alone a Superbowl win... It would have been a second losing season for the Patriots under his command, and ultimately a short tenure for the former Cleveland Browns head coach...

I don't like Brady because of how he cheated on his pregnant girlfriend with Gisele Bundchen.

In a relationship, you can't get any lower than that.

Early Week 7 highlights:

Falcons maintaining a small lead over the Lions

Houston shutting out Tennessee 17-0

Josh Freeman having such a horrible game, his fantasy points just (1:26 left in the 2nd quarter) went above 0.

Grin and bear it
I really wish the Denver/Miami game had been televised. I would have loved to see the end of that game.

Christian Ponder is surprisingly effective as the Vikings' quarterback. Rodgers, on the other hand, has been perfect so far.

[up][up] I did see the field goal made on CBS and Broncos won. But I think they should have played better to win by a better score. It's the goddamn Dolphins, man!

[up] Yeah. but Green Bay is playing ordinary right now. They have to step it up on the second half.

I saw the whole game. Both teams were absolutely awful the whole game (the last few minutes excluded), and I have absolutely no idea how the Broncos managed to pull that win off. To emphasize how bad they really were, neither team had a successful 3rd down conversion until there was 4:11 left in the 3rd quarter.

Rodgers has a passer rating of 158.3 at the end of the 3rd. Pack up 33-17, with Mason Crosby kicking a career-longest 58-yard field goal.

In my defense, I thought Palmer would be starting right away. If I had known Boller would be in, I would've picked the Chiefs.

Perhaps God is a Tim Tebow fan?...

I saw that whole game... well... the whole fourth quarter. The game was on while I was doing other things, but it was pretty bad.

Got to be honest though, Tebow's passes got more accurate as the game went on. That does seem to be a favorable thing. Anyone see the Broncos getting a 3+ win-streak going? I mean, a faltering(non-existent run game) Detroit at home, and then at Oakland(Palmer has never returned to the level of performance he had before that knee injury in '06), and the Chiefs... There's every possibility that the Broncos find themselves over .500 when they face the Jets. Even with mediocre-poor Tebow play...
