there is actually a rule that offensive players cannot push the ball carrier. I think straight up deaths were involved before that rule was put in place

There is? Don't think I have ever seen that one enforced. You do often see the offensive line 'pushing the pile' but is that okay because it is after contact with the defender?

they're allowed to push defenders, so long as they're not making like a sandwich of the ball carrier, i think

The Cleveland Browns have ended their season with a 0-16 record.

And with that, the playoffs are seeded:

AFC

  • (1) Patriots
  • (2) Steelers
  • (3) Jaguars
  • (4) Chiefs
  • (5) Titans
  • (6) Bills

NFC

  • (1) Eagles
  • (2) Vikings
  • (3) Rams
  • (4) Saints
  • (5) Panthers
  • (6) Falcons

And for the 7th year in a row, the Patriots advance to the Patriot Invitational AFC Championship, and await the winner of Jaguars/Steelers at home.

Holy bleeping amaze-balls, that last Vikings play. I know whom I'm rooting for the rest of these playoffs, especially after they just took a knee on the point after.

[up]Saints #43 better take a long vacation elsewhere, presuming he still has a job tomorrow morning.

[up]I really feel bad for him-everyone screws up now and then, but very few athletes, perhaps in any sport ever, can definitively say their single screw up was the difference between a win and a loss in the playoffs. I cannot even imagine how you get past this.

Oh look, the Patriots are going to the Super Bowl again. What a shock.

...well that ride was short. To paraphrase UrinatingTree: "You have an excellent 13-3 season with a resuscitated Case Keenum, get a miracle thanks to friendly fire from Marcus Williams, and march down the field for a touchdown on the opening drive of the NFC Championship Game. Only a brick wall can stop you know...Its name is the Eagles."

A Patriots versus Eagles Superbowl might be the only possible scenario where, as a Giants fan and proud New Yorker, I will actually root for the Eagles. Because the Patriots are a special kind of evil.

Even though the idea of rooting for the Eagles makes me so sick that my body is threatening to vomit up my entire gastrointestinal tract out of sheer disgust.

All the more so because it'll probably be in vain and the Pats will win. All I have to say is that if the Eagles jump out to a 28-3 lead, they better not let up. wink

[up]39-3 with 13 minutes to go-the Eagles tap 2 safeties on there as well, before they make "The Comeback'' the second best of its kind in history. Then the city of Philadelphia implodes on itself and gets sucked into another dimension. tongue

My view is that the Patriots winning the Super Bowl is a small price to pay when it comes to stopping a nuclear war caused by their number one fan getting into a strop.

Then the city of Philadelphia implodes on itself and gets sucked into another dimension.

This scenario would significantly improve the planet simply by removing Philly... I'll consider it my silver lining should the Eagles lose. wink

In not-quite-NFL-but-kinda-related news, Vince Mc Mahon announced that the XFL is being relaunched for a target date in 2020.

EDIT: In NFL news not related to the Super Bowl, Mr. Alex Smith goes to Washington via trade from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Just from occasionally checking on the score online, (to see if I'd won any money in the two pools I'm in) I'm kinda sad to have missed watching it. Knowing the Pats have just gone down to defeat does bring a smile to my face though. *Raises a glass to Philly and the Eagles*

The one that immediately springs to mind is to post that this is how every Patriots fan is reacting right now.
