FOX 25 just said Hernandez will go to Bristol County Jail after arraignment. This is a no bail situation.

welp, he's going up the river.

I'm not going to sugarcoat this at all.

Aaron Hernandez is a fucking idiot.

to be fair,. being capable of doing stupid shit that is ill advised at best seems to be a patriot tradition. Just ask their coach.

Interesting point brought up by reddit: the number of NFL arrests is right on par with 20-30 year old males across the country.

Other point brought up in my head due to reddit: the number of people who seem willing to just throw Hernandez in jail without a trial is kinda disheartening. The evidence is damning, but this isn't Guantanamo.

Now the Patriots are offering fans the opportunity for fans to exchange their Aaron Hernandez jerseys.

I don't think I've ever seen a team fall over themselves to distance themselves from a player quite like this.
Lions officially waived RB Jahvid Best.

Thus ends what was a promising career.
On The Wentz Wagon
Training Camp for some teams has already started and most teams's rookie TC's will start in the next week. The Hall of Fame game is roughly 15 days away and preseason games starts roughly 4 days later. Not all that much else to report except most teams have actually started to sign their 1st round picks (basically which were held up by "offset language" in the contract proposals).

Hopefully, all this means thread activity will start to pick up again.

49ers continue racking up injuries at training camp with Culliver getting carted off the field with some kind of knee injury and Willis with a fractured hand. Willis will be playing through it though.

Preseason means nothing but...dear God this QB battle is getting very hard to watch.

First touchdown after about 115 minutes of play. Yep, 49er is back!

Brian Jennings, long snapper for the 49ers for like 816288 years and poised to break the record for most consecutive snaps played as soon as the season started, was also cut :(

So Johnny Jolly made the team. Not surprising after his preseason performances, but if he keeps things up and his nose clean throughout the year that's a pretty feel-good story there.

Sorry for the double-post, but:

I was bored this weekend, so I wrote a little program to let me pick all the NFL games this season. I got some interesting results: notably, Baltimore finished 3rd(!) in the AFC North at only 6-10 and Chicago missed the playoffs despite going improving on their record last year to 11-5. I suspect I'm over-favoring upsets with some teams and under-favoring them with others. I plan to re-run the program every week with the actual game results put in, but I probably won't post every week.

Anyway, here are the results I got:

AFC East

  1. Patriots (11-5)
  2. Dolphins (11-5)
  3. Bills (2-14)
  4. Jets (2-14)

AFC North

  1. Bengals (12-4)
  2. Steelers (8-8)
  3. Ravens (6-10)
  4. Browns (5-11)

AFC South

  1. Texans (13-3)
  2. Colts (11-5)
  3. Titans (4-12)
  4. Jaguars (2-14)

AFC West

  1. Broncos (15-1)
  2. Chargers (7-9)
  3. Chiefs (6-10)
  4. Raiders (3-13)

NFC East

  1. Redskins (12-4)
  2. Giants (12-4)
  3. Cowboys (4-12)
  4. Eagles (3-13)

NFC North

  1. Packers (12-4)
  2. Bears (11-5)
  3. Vikings (9-7)
  4. Lions (7-9)

NFC South

  1. Falcons (13-3)
  2. Saints (13-3)
  3. Buccaneers (8-8)
  4. Panthers (6-10)

NFC West

  1. 49ers (13-3)
  2. Seahawks (10-6)
  3. Rams (4-12)
  4. Cardinals (1-15)

Wild-Card Round

  • Dolphins @ Bengals (Bengals)
  • Colts @ Patriots (Patriots)
  • Giants @ Packers (Packers)
  • Saints @ Redskins (Saints)

Divisional Round

  • Patriots @ Broncos (Broncos)
  • Bengals @ Texans (Texans)
  • Saints @ Falcons (Saints)
  • Packers @ 49ers (Packers)

Conference Championships

  • Texans @ Broncos (Broncos)
  • Saints @ Packers (Packers)

Super Bowl

  • Packers vs. Broncos (Broncos)

I don't want to be the one to say it, but I'm going to say it anyway: I'm a little suspicious that the Packer fan has the Packers winning it all. Are you sure that code is completely unbiased?[lol] But besides that, any chance you could make the program available to the rest of the thread via a download?

I can't really see the Eagles being that bad (3-13). Sure, our secondary is atrocious, and outside of Desean Jackson and Jason Avant, our wide receiving core is non-existent, and our defense is in the midst of transition from a 4-3 to a hybrid 3-4 and...wait, I'm digging myself into a hole here.

Can't really see the Cards doing that bad. I mean, they don't have any offensive team at all, but they do have a very decent secondary. I think that'll probably carry them to more than a single win all season. With the Bears in a similar situation as the Eagles, new coach and loss of several key players, I don't see 11 wins for them, and Baltimore going 6-10 is really surprising. They did gut the whole team after the SB, but it would be a shock to see them end up that bad.

Also, news time:

DT Geno Atkins of the Bengals signed to a 5 year, $55 million extension.

QB Brady Quinn will back up Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez as the new Jet 3rd stringer.

Former Eagle and Ram SS Quintin Mikell has signed with the Panthers.

Packers have signed former Seahawks,Browns,Saints and 49ers QB Seneca Wallace to back up Aaron Rodgers after releasing both Vince Young and B.J. Coleman over the weekend.

Oh, and RGIII is [tup] for Week 1 against the Eagles.

The code is just listing the games for me to pick, I'm the one making the actual picks. Also, if you look carefully, I actually have the Packers losing to the Broncos in the big game. :P

But yeah, I suspect some of my results are significantly off (I don't really think the Cards will only win one game, or that the Ravens will go 6-10). Football pontification is a very inexact art.

Also, the program is kind of hacked-together and isn't really even finished. (I want to get playoff tie-breakers in there as well as actual playoff predictions, but it turns out that's pretty complicated and I wanted to get a run in before the kickoff game so I dropped that for now and just did that stuff by hand.) It's written as an OS X command-line tool (though it would probably compile for Linux as long as you use C99).

Maybe once I get it to a state I'm satisfied with and clean up the code a little, I'll look into putting it on Git Hub or something.

Sorry for double post but: Terrelle Pyror given the nod over Matt Flynn to start for the Raiders. Poor Flynn. This is the 2nd time he's been beaten out of a starting job that easily looked like his at the beginning of the preseason. Guess he must be really bad at something we don't see a lot of publicly.

News Update: Former 2011 1st round pick and Eagle Danny Watkins (G) has signed a 1 year contract with the Dolphins.

Definitely not a weirdo
I think one of the few things that Seahawks fans and Packers fans can agree on is that we were both rooting for Flynn to have some amount of success in Oakland. I guess that isn't happening. It's a shame. Either way, I'm not big on that team's chances. They kept their starters in for much of the final preseason game, and they still got thoroughly outplayed by Seattle's backups.
On The Wentz Wagon

Baltimore up by 3 at the half. Michael Oher and Jacoby Jones are doubtful to return due to injuries.

Football may be back, but I am pretty sure the Ravens still think it's preseason.
