So you know that replacement ref from the Seahawks/Packers game? Well apparently Richard Sherman hired the guy to ump a charity softball game.

Super Bowl L being held in San Fran was pretty much a given for two reasons: 1) The NFL will be able to show off the new stadium on a huge stage and 2) Miami lost any viable shot after local Miami lawmakers torpedoed a deal to use public funds to improve Sun Life Stadium.
"I'm Commander Shepard, but I guess I'm now your therapist."
As noted earlier, the Sun Life deal fell through due to lawmakers being twice shy after supporting a stadium for the Marlins, and then watching as the managers of the team basically had a fire-sale after only one season, which left a really bad taste in the mouths of both the public and the congressmen who supported the new stadium in the first place. Still sucks for the Dolphins(and by extension, the Hurricanes)

Definitely not a weirdo
So, long story short, San Fran got the Super Bowl because the Marlins' ownership sucks. Okay, that's not completely true, but the first did increase the chances of the second occurring.

Charles Woodson is returning to his old team, the Raiders, for one year.

Damn, between Matt Flynn and Charles Woodson I'm going to actually have to cheer for the Raiders this year. Strange feeling.

Brian Urlacher has retired.
Jordan Rodgers got acquainted with another fellow UDFA, Trey Wilson

and by "get acquainted" I mean, "get stuck on the elevator for 40 minutes".

Michael Crabtree underwent surgery on his torn Achilles' Wednesday, and is expected to be sidelined a minimum of six months.

NFL suspended Rams LG Rokevious Watkins one game for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. It's unclear why Watkins is suspended only one game, as substance-abuse violations usually draw four-game bans.

Star Lotulelei signed his rookie contract with the Panthers.

News 12 New Jersey reports Jets RB Mike Goodson was arrested for marijuana and weapons possession early Friday morning. Goodson and a friend were allegedly "found intoxicated in an SUV" along a Denville, NJ highway. Goodson was reportedly so drunk that he had to be hospitalized, while his gun was loaded with hollow point bullets. Goodson was a passenger in the vehicle. The driver was charged with DUI.

According to the New Jersey State Police report, Mike Goodson was "incoherent, slobbering and had vomited all over himself as well as the interior of the vehicle" when he was arrested Friday morning. As previously reported, Goodson was so drunk he had to be hospitalized. According to the report, police found a "baggie of marijuana in Goodson's pants pocket." The loaded gun was found elsewhere in the car. Goodson's attorney has insisted he'll be cleared of the gun charges. "We firmly believe the gun charge is not going to last against Mike." The gun allegations are far more serious than the drug charges.

The good news I can take from this is that Goodson wasn't the driver.

Just when you think the Jets can't be even more of a joke...
Definitely not a weirdo
Eh. The Jets can always become more of a joke. That team has entered another dimension. A dimension of sight. A dimension of sound. There's a signpost up ahead. They are now in The Tyson Zone.

I never asked for this. I never wanted my team to gain media attention like this.

From Crabtree's instagram

At least one good thing has come out of today.
"Never let the truth get in the way of a good story."

Been a rough week for Sanchez (then again when is it not?)

Mark Sanchez went 6-of-11 with three interceptions in Jets OT As Wednesday. One pass was picked off by second-year UDFA DT Damon "Big Snacks" Harrison.

Geno Smith wasn't much better, going 4-of-10 with a pick of his own. Coach Rex Ryan called Sanchez's display "unacceptable."

Anonymous Jet strikes again, says we like Mark but he should be benched.

Okay, let's not start reading things into day ONE of OTA's.
It was an honor
Yeah, Mike Tomlin said OT As are just "football in shorts" anyways.

Too bad the New York media doesn't get that.

Still, throwing 3 INTs as a 5th year starter is kinda worrying

In his defense, they are trying to teach him a new offense. Still though, the New York media likes to latch onto every little thing the Jets do. If Sanchez's shoes are untied, it's front page news.

The editor of refers to OTAs as the "underwear league" which tells you quite a bit about his opinion of them.

Rob Gronkoswki now needs another surgery to fix his back. He's a great player, but the consistent amount of time he's on IR or healing is making me wonder if the Patriots will ever truly get all they expected out of him.
"I'm Commander Shepard, but I guess I'm now your therapist."
Gronk's agent called his client's upcoming back surgery "preventative maintenance".

I mean we all would like to take words of agents as gospel but it doesn't seem to be that serious.
Definitely not a weirdo
In other news, doctors have grown so tired of cutting up Gronk, and stitching him back up again that they just decided to install a zipper.

I think he's going for the single-season record for most surgeries.

That would be an interesting stat to keep track of

Steeler offensive tackle Mike Adams is expected to be out 6-8 weeks after being stabbed, but will be ready for training camp. 3 people tried to steal Adams's truck from the front of his home, and even after being stabbed, Adams attempted to chase them.

Former Pats DC and Former Jets and Browns HC Eric Mangini is headed back to the sidelines as an offensive consultant for the 49ers.
