Let's make a harem show!:

[up][up][up] Well, I was talking about the deconstruction in terms of the main character being a Villain Protagonist. But you're right, that might be a little much. Unless she's a Magnificent Bitch...Depends on the setting naturally.

Speaking of which, should it just be ordinary vanilla Real Life type setting, or something more exotic?

So one of the members I'll throw in will be a lesbian Bookworm that is actually a bit outgoing and expressive, but insecured about her sexuality. She watches the main from the trees as the members duke it out, before she decides to burst out of the closet.

[up] I'm not really even planning to contribute much to this honestly, not even thinking about chars, just concept.

Focusing on the boys perspective in the girl's harem feels like a step backwards when most harems focus on the boys perspective.

Actually, I'll be a 2/4 member. I won't make this a high-priority project like Manifestation Files or Ashwood Landing, but I will contribute when I have the chance.

[up] But it's different. Instead of a boy being the center, it's a girl, and instead of being from the center's perspective, it's focused on the members. There's more to play with.

Anyone else have an idea of the basics of the harem?

EDIT: Hmm...the OP hadn't came back yet. This happened with the Shonen Project, where Vyc didn't return until a page passed. Is this a good omen?

Make it an entirely lesbian harem. That way, there are no boys to focus on at all!

Well, if the OP doesn't come back we can make this our own project! >:D

Anyway, we can probably make a compromise and have the lead be a viewpoint character to many of the boys unfolding stories.

How about making the lead male a wacky eccentric asexual NEET? That way when the harem does focus on him, he'll actually be entertaining to watch instead of offensively boring.

Also, lesbians.

Please, do me a favor here. Please don't make the male lead Oblivious to Love. Make his lack of action due to indecision or moral complications instead of just being thick.

Don't worry guys, I'm still alive! Also, I am liking this idea of a Villain Protagonist Reverse harem very, very much.

Can we make the protagonist a Bifauxen? (that way we can add crossdressing to the list.)

EDIT: just so you guys know, I'll be much more active on weekends. I have lots of stuff Goofing around to do on weekdays so I only get on this thing for an hour then. Sorry if I got you guys riled up for nothing.

Perhaps we can make dueling harems. One has a Villain Protagonist type of centerfold while the other has the sweet natured girl.

And it will be awesome.

I will admit that I have toyed with this idea in the past, with a harem also surrounding a sweet natured girl but this time she was a hunter of demons who used a sword and a shotgun and all the people in her harem are those that she has saved.

...I still want at least one Bifauxnen.

On another note, maybe the story could switch between each girl's point of view, with increasingly obvious subtext each time. And on another another note, how about the Villain Protagonist making the the first move? There's a whole index of things we could do with that kind of character.

What kind of villain are we talking here? Just like any other person? A superpowered demon in disguise? A goddess? Three monkeys in a suit!? o.O

[up] NO. FOUR monkeys in a suit.

[up] Psycho Lesbian, Dominatrix (though that seems kind of flat) Lipstick Lesbian with a little bit of The Libby thrown in... EDIT: Gotta go, guys, see you tomorrow.

The Villain Protagonist should be the Bifauxnen, and the good-natured girl should be a cross between a girly-girl and a tomboy. As in, she dabbles in interests of both genders, which makes her a more attractive target.

And I still want to write the Bookworm lesbian that gets the first confession.

43 Oh So Into Cats, Wed, 5th Oct '11 2:14:27 PM from The Sand Wastes Relationship Status: Showing feelings of an almost human nature
Why do I want to take inspiration from Scott Pilgrim, and if you have a Villain Protagonist...

The protagonist does nothing not because they are Oblivious to Love or because they actually have indecision — they are waiting for a There Can Be Only One moment to occur between the love interests. The last man/woman/whatever standing wins.

(That Guy You Met Once)
I have a semi-Orphaned Series (not abandoned, just stuffed in the closet for a minute) where the harem is an Ensemble Cast / Nakama of two guys and three girls who end up sharing each other.

I kind of thread-hopped, so I'm not sure if a final format has been decided on yet, but something like that - a more equal gender balance where the characters get to fall for each other in the end instead of all competing over one person the whole series - might not be a bad idea.

But that doesn't really make for a harem show. Besides, in our show we can have tiny little romances flower between the haremettes and it will all lead to a massive payoff when the two central characters go out with each other in the finale, leaving the haremettes up to their own devices. Or something.

Well, that was kind of the point. It ended up being a subversion of the harem and Love Triangle plots that were building throughout the series.

I guess that wouldn't really make sense if you really are trying to do either a straightforward or reconstructed harem series, though.

Here's an idea...

Two girls...

The Villain Protagonist, and the sweet, if Slightly Ditzy Deutragonist.

Then there's a number of boys (plus a girl or two) in a Love Triangle with the girls as the other two points.

The nice girl is Oblivious to Love, the Villain Protagonist is just using it to her advantage.

What about dueling harems? Like, maybe a man and woman who were a basically a couple since they were little kids break up, and each suddenly finds themselves flooded with admirers they hadn't known they'd had. They could each feel varying levels of being pleased at all the attention, being annoyed at all the attention, and encouraging all the attention to make their ex jealous. The inability to pick a partner could be explained by their recent breakup, as they're not quite ready to move on yet and, since they've been with each other their whole lives, they haven't really developed the social skills to date anyone else.

Actually, I think we already settled on the duel harems with both centered around a female character, one being evil, the other being nice. Although I would much prefer it if the nice girl wasn't oblivious to love but rather just apprehensive of all the attention she's getting. It would be rather interesting, though, if the reason the nice girl gets a lot of guys (and gals) in her harem is because she saved them (somehow) from the evil girl.
