This song is pretty much my favorite song on the radio this year, so needless to say I didn't agree with much. I can definitely see Todd's point about Ariana being laughable as the "bad girl" - and he's right, Jessie and Ariana sound way too similar to pull off the competition thing - but to me, this song sounds like sex in a way all of the Britney and Christina songs he referenced don't. Specifically, it sounds like joyful, energetic sex, instead of sounding all dark and miserable like a lot of the aforementioned early 00's songs do to me.
Ariana is interesting to me cause she's such a different background than most on the charts. Her and Jessie are hard to seperate but Ariana has a Broadway background. Original cast of 13 at well...13 or so. From Broadway to Nick Tweencom musical thing to pop star is odd. Nicki Minaj is a great backing or featured but her solo work is garbage to me. Jesse is the one I don't know well.
To Be Updated when I'm not LazyI quite like this song - even though there's literally nothing to it but "I'm so hot, I'm hotter than her, I'm the hottest person ever" and that sort of song irritates me a bit.
Be not afraid...Does anyone else literally not listen to Pop stations and only watch Todd to keep somewhat pop-culture literate when it comes to music?
When I do listen to the radio I have tuned to a modern-country station.
"Bang Bang" is a song I cannot tolerate for more than a few seconds. In contrast, I have liked pretty much every other single I've heard Ariana Grande on—"The Way" always sounded like a '90s R&B track to me, almost like an old Mariah Carey song. "Problem" took a while to grow on me, but I never disliked it at least. This song, though? It annoys me. It's up to 11 in the worst way throughout the whole song.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.I'm the same way. Then again, the only Top 40 station around here seems stuck in 2011 half the time, so it's not an accurate gauge of modern pop too. Unless stations really are still playing Hot Chelle Rae 14 times a day...
I'm German, so the hits Todd talks about are only indirectly relevant to me (though hits in America tend to be hits in Germany, too). The radio I hear most of is one that plays only oldies or German songs or a combination of both, because that's what they play at work, and that's one reason I can't survive there without my MP3-player. When I listen to the radio voluntarily, it's Triple J. Which is an Australian station. So somehow I'm actually more familiar with the Australian charts than the German.

I don't listen to a lot of radio, but I can say I have heard most of the songs by the time Todd reviews them even with my minimal exposure to pop radio. If not, I will usually hear it somewhere after the review.
Though, some songs I never hear playing anywhere around here, but then again, usually I don't mind.
I do tend to have pop music on in the radio...but it's only on for like a 15 minute trip and A LOT of the songs tend to be from several years back. Still hearing "Yeah" from Usher, on occasion.
When I lived more out in the the country, I could catch a different station that played more recent hits a lot more frequently so...yeah. I kinda get annoyed with that.
Persona 3 Portable Liveblog@Shobono Me too, I don't drive so no listening to something mindless then, though I guess I get exposed to them when mom is driving. My brother listens to classic rock when he drives. I could have gone so long not listening to that song.
When I discovered Todd back in 2010 I had listened to a lot of pop radio that year so it was satisfying seeing him take down some of the more terrible songs. Since then my own musical taste has really broadened and developed, so I don't have much use for pop radio anymore, but I still watch Todd mostly because I just like his style, and partially to keep up to date on current trends.
When judging something base solely on how annoying it is, I still say Single Lady is the worst pop-song ever produced, and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together is right up their for how obnoxious it is.

Switch "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" with "I Whip My Hair" and we have deal.
I've never heard that and never wish to, so I'll have to take your word for it.
Somehow it doesn't surprise me that your top hated song is a Beyonce song.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatThink of the lyric "I whip my hair back and forth" and replay it ad nauseam. Now you never have to listen to the song.
...I said before my hate is the repetitious lyrics and the almost Brown Note quality of the backing music's tone. I honestly don't give two shits about the artist because I don't listen to pop-music very often and Taylor Swift is my guilty pleasure of whom I only dislike that one song. I also hated the former song long before Tumblr was even thought of and I gave a shit about any kind of politics.
I already hate it...

I cringe whenever I hear Single Ladies.
Yeah, I think "Single Ladies" is really awful. Todd described it really accurately when he said that the 'instrumentation' in latter half of the songs sounds like a bad acid trip.
Come to think of it, I don't like any Beyoncé song I know at all. I have nothing against her as a person, though. Even though "If I Was a Boy" makes me a little mad every time I hear it.
Have you heard 'Love On Top'?
I mean, I don't really know anything about your music taste, but I see absolutely no reason to dislike that song. It's kind of reminiscent of early 70s Stevie Wonder, in a way.
I love to learn, I love to yearn, and most of all... I love to make money. The only Beyonce song I actually really like (though I never heard it much) is "XO"—that song surprised me with how much I liked it. I also don't mind "Crazy in Love", though I'm not crazy in love it it. It's still a fun dance song, though.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. That's right on the money, it's just so disorientating(and not in a good way)
That sounds like me with Avenged Sevenfold, I'm not a big fan of them or their lyrical style as a whole but there's a handful of songs from them I really love despite that(Save Me, Dangerline, Gunslinger, Dear God, So Far Away, Fiction, Warmness on the Soul)

Everything's gonna be all right...
(Note: not about Bob Marley)
Heard "Problem" (I think we brought it up in passing when discussing "Fancy") and "Price Tag" before, so I knew those two. But pdam has a point - nearly couldn't tell one from the other in this song, and I suspect the constant belting might not be helping.
