From what I saw, Ranma 1/2 is Takahashi's best work. Since it was my favorite manga, I was quite negatively surprised when the other stuff turned out to be... not so great. Mermaid Saga, Rumic World and the one manga with the boxer and the nun (I forgot the name, something with "Gospel") are okay and actually quite entertaining. But Maison Ikkoku and Inu-Yasha are simply boring.

I don't know about Urusei Yatsura or Rin-ne though.

I always wondered how Rumiko Takahashi would be able to play around with the Mons genre if she ever made a work like it?

Urusei Yatsura is great fun. My personal favorite of Rumiko's work easily. The only real downside is its artwork isn't very polished compared to her later works.

ATARU NO BAKA!!!!!!!!

Not to mention its probably one of the Trope makers of the Unwanted Harem series, and was so popular, The creator of Fist Of The North Star actually drew Lum in his style.

[up] Heck, they still make videogames about it. More than twenty years after its end.

That's pretty impressive, for something that isn't a Shonen fighting series.

See you that and raise you THIS!

And that is also why that forever and a day I will consider the use of the word Baka an acceptable use of Gratuitous Japanese in Ranma fandom.

Actual pics of the cast for the live action special.

http://natalie.mu/comic/news/58403

Live action Akane is... actually very pretty. I'm impressed. And Nabiki— Whoa, momma!

OTOH, poor Soun looks like a complete imbecile. And Gosunkugi is too little 'creepy' and too much 'Fab-u-lous, not that there's anything wrong with that'.

[up]Is that the full main cast? I will be severely disappointed if we don't see Ryoga, Happosai, or some of Ranma's female suitors. Also, who was that last guy supposed to be? The only other character that could be would be Principle Kuno.

[up] Pretty sure that is him.

[up][up] Damn that is a pretty nice cast for this... its only a special? I would of expected a series combine the best stuff of the first two seasons of the anime and it would be pretty good.

Soun and Genma looks possibly a little too crazy. Actually Soun could work, but Genma looks pretty weird.

Tofu is great though, and Akane really stands out as good casting with probably the best costume.

Not sure about Ranma's new shirt, but this is very... Interesting.

I am personally not surprised that they did not try to achieve accuracy with regards to female!Ranma's in-universe bustiness (though it's only really apparent visually in the anime; in the manga, we only have his and Nabiki's word for it).

Really, it's not that Ranma has huge boobs; it's that they're bigger than Akane's. Based on the photos, they seem to have gotten that part right.

The anime episodes and a lot of the official art would have you think otherwise. And I wasn't thinking "huge" so much as "much more noticeably large than those of the female actress that plays live-action!girl!Ranma".

It looks like they got the size right there the new shirt is a bit more baggy than Ranma's Anime shirt (the reason why its baggy is the actress probably does not have the assets in the first place so fake it.)

I gotta admit, they did a good job getting a cast together. Especially impressed with how badass male!Ranma looks. I dunno, the serious look in his eyes is just awesome.

I also don't mind Genma and Soun looking a little nutty. Genma looks alright (although the smile does make him look a little stoned) and Soun is giving me flashbacks to the Landlord from Kung Fu Hustle.

Really, the only character that I'm not liking is Gosunkugi. Jesus I know he's supposed to be wacky, but it looks like they're trying to make him Camp Gay.

Finally, WHOOOOOOOOO'S THE MAN IN THE SUUUUUUUUUUIT?

Yes, I'm very tired right now. I need to make references to keep myself awake. Shut up.

Gosunkugi actually looks decent IMO, Lanky and thin with bags under his eyes. He always struck me as someone who could be a Bishōnen if he cleaned.

You know, there's something interesting that I noted about Ranma One Half fics that either have Ranma become permanently female (whether willingly or not), split his Gender Bender form into one or more independent people

, or give him at least one sister: If the name "Ranko" is either not used or already taken (quite probable when it's a "split into several people" or "multiple sisters"), more often than not "Kikuko" is used instead. Any idea as to why that is?

[up]I'm guessing one person made it up and it stuck like glue. Kinda like how Akane's mom is usually named "Kimiko" despite not having a canon name. To be honest, I never ran into that name in the time I've spent reading fanfiction.

If it's in a woman's name, "Kiku" would probably be "chrysanthemum" (for once, the Japanese word is a lot easier).

[up][up] Off the top of my head, I remember that it's used in Pyeknu's Three Sisters, Cloud-Dreamer's Kikuko, Kevin D. Hammel's Honor and Love, and at least a couple of Anime Addventure thread-stories (Totally Alone and Ranma in Tomobiki).

I wish the social service would appear to punish Genma. In fact, I put this WMG: Nabiki is working for the social service.

WMG: Nabiki is blackmailing everyone using social services.

Fixed.

But seriously, Nabiki!?
