Counter Strike have some redeemer factors at least,
One of them is being under Valve, maybe the most mod friendly company ever,
HECK, Counter Strike was a Half life mod before transforming in a Full Game, thats say something
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/It's just children who started with Bad Company 2 arguing with children who started with Modern Warfare 2. I'll be over here enjoying my 2142 and United Offensive.

Brofist!
2142 2 needs to happen big time.
Dem Titans, mang
"Is fearr Gaeilge briste ná Béarla cliste."You know what I wanna see?
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelSadly cancelled.
And yeah, needs more 2142. BC 2's fanbase consists of whiny MW 2 ex-fans.
And granted, what other alternatives do we have? Red Orchestra is promising, and there's ARMA III upcoming (which, granted, is for realists), which also has its own moronic Fan Dumb of "IT HAS TO BE BORING OR IT'S NOT FUN!!!"
I'd detail my love for a game that has realistic elements, but still has fun, but that's off topic.

I also think it's Co D influence on every shooter(and even some games that weren't supposed to be shooters!!!!).
I don't know if things like regenerating health, setpiece overdose, extreme shortness and VERY linear level design(wich feels like you're trapped in lines blocked by invisible walls instead of actual walls) were created by modern warfare, but to me they might as well have been since after MW was released I noticed EVERY game had it too.
I don't mind those things in a few games but I don't see the appeal many people see in those things. Regenerating health for example seemed like a good idea to make you take cover but it completely reduced tension in a fight and after it. Also, I'm a pc gamer so the lack of quicksaving sucks a lot.
But those things might be older than MW so I can't say for sure. However the MW knock offs ARE annoying specially when you notice a game could have been much more if it didn't try to copy Co D.
:)Do you guys have any friends who, after playing MW 2, become REALLY annoying?
I do. Before, he was a pretty nice guy. Slightly irritating, and has fanboy tendencies, but still a cool guy to talk to.
Now, he quotes General Shepherd every half-minute. He even has lines from the game all over his Facebook and MSN.
This. SO MUCH. My best friend jumped on the Co D:BO bandwagon and all he seems to talk about lately is his love for the 360 and how he has around five games pre-oredered for next month(mostly Co D like fps) and when I commenting on how I wasn't going to buy MW 3 because it just seemed the same as BO, he went on a mini rant about how I wasn't a true gamer.
Also, another issue with Co D: it's bringing up a generation of hyperviolent, soldier wannabes with its' glorification of violence, which admitedly, is the fanbase's fault for kinda somewhat missing the point of some of these games about how war is not necessarily good, but that's another story.

Dat shit.
FUCK IT WITH A TEN INCH CATTLE PROD.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.
What is it about Call of Duty that brings out the worst in gamers?
I forgot to mention that he wasn't entirely serious about it, but still, it was rather annoying.

I'd slap myself if I actually considered them gamers anymore. But then that would just be falling into their same trap, so no.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Probably some kind of subliminal Jedi Mind Trick laced into the voice acting and level design that instantly turns normal, friendly gamers into Terry Crews. With more screaming.

Terry Crews isn't that bad of a guy really.
I think Tourettes Guy is a better comparison.
Yeah, at least Terry Crews is fun to look at as well.
While I don't hate the Co D franchise (since when was it a crime to be popular?), I do hate how it's pretty much the only well-known FPS franchise aside from Halo and Gears of War. Other well-known shooter franchises such as Deus Ex, ARMA, or Rainbow Six automatically get drowned out by it's popularity. So much to the point that there's a co-worker at my job is totally crazy about Co D and Gears of War, but when I mentioned Battlefield 3 he had absolutely no idea that it existed, let alone the rest of the Battlefield franchise!
Ugh... I have the feeling that I won't be making any friends in this thread...
I'm no fan of Co D. But I really can't bring myself to hate it. Mostly because the guys I hang out with at school do that for me. Times infinity. Seriously, they have hardons for Battlefield and then turn around and start making fun of Co D fanboys. My response?
"Dude, they are both near future games where you spend half the game staring down iron sights and the other half staring at a wall as your screen blinks red. They aren't that different..."
"Evii is right though" -Saturn "I didn't know you were a bitch Evii." -Lior ValOh, that's not the case at all buddy - you should find yourself quite welcome on this thread. If anything, the whole thread seems to be more about how a lot of games (ex Ace Combat) have begun to emulate the gameplay that the Co D series is known for along with the immaturity of it's fanbase instead of the actual game itself.

I had yesterday quite some fun playing Modern Warfare
edit: what annoys me even more than Co D hate for other games is IW hate for Treyarch games. World at War was a nice game but if you'd listen to the fans you'd think it was the worst game (or actually that would be Black Ops according to them) ever.

If any question why we died/ Tell them, because our fathers lied -Rudyard KiplingIt's a crying shame, really, because I think Treyarch are more dedicated than IW ever were. Like, the dev team went down to a firing range with WW 2 weapons to get a feel for how much recoil they had, how you should move while carrying them, etc. And all the weapons in World at War actually sound like their real life counterparts.
Also, they apparently they wanted to remake, like, five maps from the original Call of Duty for Black Ops, but Activision were all like "lolnope". Black Ops' campaign was supposed to be about 3 hours longer as well, with levels taking place in Egypt and France.
"Is fearr Gaeilge briste ná Béarla cliste."As games, I like Call Of Duty. I like Modern Warfare.
They're well made and fun to play. They have their flaws, certainly. But everything does. The action can be pretty damn spectacular, and the high production values mean plenty of wild setpieces. Plus i've done stuff in these games, like sniping an enemy in the head with a bullet placed between a tiny crack of an opening in their cover, that don't seem to be pheasible with a game with a lower budget or different engine. The military jargon, equipment and protocol is well researched.
Still, at the end of the day they aren't really my kinda games. There's too much emphasis on your Regenerating Health and enemies die too easily. Having twenty different assault rifles is kinda pointless when they're all functionally identical. And the multiplayer, for me, is functionally broken. Getting killed by a predator missile or overhead helicopter killstreak reward just isn't fun. There's nothing wrong with liking them though. The sorta gameplay that the series offers is obviously very much up some people's alleys. And that's okay.
What's not okay is that the series is so damn popular that absolutely everyone else wants to be the next Call Of Duty. And they don't do this by offering new innovative ideas, taking the building blocks of call of duty and building something different with it, they don't do it by just giving their all and making something that they think is awesome. They do it by copying call of duty to the letter. And that's not helping anyone.

Bleye knows Sabers. My only problem with Co D is that it often forsakes fun for realism. But this is what makes me a TF 2 player after all, so what do I know?
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial
It probably also having to do with the fact that Call of Duty is more successful than Battlefield, despite taking almost every element from it, even removing elements, and only tweaking very minor things.
