Evaluating the plot in Dead or Alive 5 is ultimately a waste of words. Oh, you can make a qualitative judgment – observe that it somehow manages to be a train wreck, a plane wreck and a car crash all in one. It's like watching all combustible vehicles on Earth hurtle into each other at a singular point of stupidity, and then burning in the consequent fireball of awkward, unintentional comedy.

I think I'll get it. From what I read, it seems to be mostly just "more of the same", but since I'm lacking that "same", due to the lack of a X-Box (360) (I only have 2 and Dimensions, which while good, is "just" a hand-held game and has odd flaws like the fixed battle Arcade Mode), that's good enough for me.
And it's the first main game, in which Creepy "The DOA-Girls-Are-My-Daughters" McAsshole had no part. That's something.

It may be more of the same but its as good as I remembered back when I played 3 with my friend.
I like it.
And I love playing as Brad Wong.
The fight scene over the piece of food with Eliot is amazing. ![]() Bring them all on.

Well, I have to admit that they did tone the fanservice down. Breasts don't bounce as much as they did before. But they still bounce noticeably. Still, that's more than I expected. I thought that the claim that they will tone it down will be completey bullshit.
And while the characters look more "real" than in previous games, they still have that "artificial, doll-like" look going on (the girls, at least). But it's much better now (and more of a change than the fanservice).
It seems that Virtua Fighter characters are unlocked in the story mode. At least, I unlocked Akira after beating him, when he appeared out of the blue for no apparent reason and Kokoro challenged him... for no apparent reason.
The rest of the story mode is barely better. But in it's badness it can be quite, but unintended, amusing. Even when it attempts to be funny, it's still only unintended so, in a "hahaha, was that an attempt at humor?" kind of way. Like when Hitomi goes through a South American jungle in safari clothes to train and Ayane asks her whether that's the right clothes to train in.
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.

Is the AI still in full "Fuck You" mode?

I love the marketing campaign they've got going for it. It just screams "please take me seriously".
... Maybe I'll buy it.

Those where some of my favorites from 4.

Yeah, Zack and Helena's outfits are series staples. In fact, Helena's outfit was her default in DOA 2 and 3.
RE: The Story:
I have to admit, the story actually had two plot twists I didn't see coming. I think that's a first for a fighting game.

Mortal Kombat had some twists in it, but those where mostly directed at people who where already pretty knowledgeable about the canon...

Oh, I know. I actually like MK's plot (or at least, I did before the reboot).
But DOA 5 actually used foreshadowing, allusion, and misdirection.
I KNOW! I'm shocked too!

Most of those DLC costumes seem to be throwbacks. Gen Fu's is his original costume, so is Bayman's. And both Mila and Tina are using outfits from Tina's original Dead or Alive appearance.

I haven't played DOA 5, but past experiences tell me that the story in the DOA series tend to be (really really good) FM Vs with miniscule (if any) actual plot development for those who aren't morally ambiguous Japanese hard-asses. And even then, not so much.
Are they still doing that?
Side note: Tina's alternate from DOA 1 is a highly unexpected and pleasant surprise (and Mila wearing the alternate version even more so)!

Now I want to play the story mode just to see how bad it could be.
Ninja Gaiden 3's story was it's strongest point so I thought Team N where getting better at this stuff. It was still pretty weak, though...

Vertigo is right: it's very, very sloppily paced (90% of the chapters are filler which have no story impact whatsoever). Further, nothing is ever explained and the story really amounts to nothing. There's two major plot twists and one minor one, and the Brad/Eliot food fight was Crazy Awesome, but that's about it.

Is the AI still in full "Fuck You" mode or does it have a 'bearable' difficulty setting? I was fine with DOA 3 for measure, but DOA 4 was generally too hard for me.
