This trope is when a Magical Girl outfit gets an upgrade to make it look fancier. It is not the outfit itself. It is not the opposite of Spikes of Villainy (since it doesn't require any costume upgrades). It's not any outfit worn by someone who stands for justice. And it's not merely wearing frills at all.

Wick check:

Well that's just 30 instead of 50, but if someone wants to look up 20 more, go ahead.

Frilly Upgrade or something seems like a viable title.

Hmm I would say we should still have Frills of Justice to match the misuse

I admit I thought this was just Magical Girl s get frills when they transform.

Fresh Precure is kinda correct.

Normal, Magical girl, Angel form.

Futari Wa Pretty Cure Splash Star is iffy its a sidegrade not an upgrade its actually 2 different transformations of equal power just different element (they never actually get an upgrade till a non-canon Crossover movie.)

This is why people should think long and hard about names before launching tropes.

Rename or split and have someone that knows a thing or two about Magical Girls (ie not me) clean up the wicks. For starters, it is safe to say that most non anime-manga examples are probably bad.

I would suggest Frilly Power Up instead of Frilly Upgrade because even the latter is likely to be confused for just another makeover trope.

PS: I just deleted the line on Spikes of Villainy that was one of the reasons this was being misused.

Frilly Power Up is better for the reasons stated.

[up]That doesn't make it clear this is about upgrades of older costumes though.

I don't see why this can't be about the entire line of outfits in general.

Normal Everyday clothes -> Frilly Magical Girl outfit for their everyday pwning evil-> Mid-Season Upgrade of frills -> Deus ex Machina frills with wings, Halo on the back (or whatever that trope is.) or Sparkles.

Each transformation adds frills but even the first transformation is it. (Really I thought it applied to well any transformation not just Midseason Upgrade and above.)

Should Frills of Justice remain as a costume trope, separate from the Frilly Upgrade it was intended as?

Frills of Justice gives fighting evil / crime connotations if it's just about a frilly outfit I would think it would need a more general title like Everything Is Better With Frills (snowclone I know but it's the first thing that popped into my head.)

In the Magical Girl TRS thread, I was looking for a trope or two that summed up the particular style traits of magical girl outfits. Minidress of Power I thought was too broad because it applies equally as well to characters like Wonder Woman. Pimped-Out Dress even more broad. Frills of Justice seemed correct on a cursory glance but I've since been corrected. I do think there might be a hole that can be filled, though I'm not entirely sure what should go in it.

Yeah I think the Current name should become a trope about Magical Girl fighting outfits basically being frilly dresses and we should move the current trope description to a Frilly Power Upgrade (working title) page.

[up][up] There isn't really one standard magical girl outfit. Pimped-Out Dress would probably be the best at getting close to everything, but they can go all the way from wedding dress, to kimono, to Sailor Fuku, to hot pants and and a bra. There is no standard magical girl costume.

Mini Dress Of Power still fits. Magical Girl Tropes is not meant to be tropes exclusive to them, just that largely apply to them.

The pervading theme is girly, highly unlikely fighting gear, often with frills and star or heart broaches everywhere, also Combat Stilettos.

We can list all that stuff on it that can show up on these outfits, like Leotard of Power, Magic Skirt, Modesty Shorts, Battle Ball Gown, Mini Dress Of Power, Who Wears Short Shorts, Zettai Ryouiki, Opera Gloves, Pimped-Out Dress, Giant Waist Ribbon, Detached Sleeves, Sailor Fuku, Combat Stilettos, Wings Do Nothing, Power Crystal etc.

[up][up][up][up][up] That should be the Laconic for the new Frills of Justice trope.

I'm liking something like Power Up Frills for the current article.

We have a Tiara trope somewhere, broach at the center of the chest usually in the center of a bow, Every Girl Is Cuter With Hair Decs, Color-Coded for Your Convenience,

Did we ever get that trope for those (umm cussing here but thats what someone called them in the other thread) Fuck Me Boots up and running?

Damn ok umm I have no idea how they are really used so I couldnt make the YKTTW sadly.

Another one to add to the list, Fashionable Asymmetry, Flower Motifs on the outfit itself.

Yeah we need a trope for gogoboots. Basically Boots + Zettai Ryouki. Also that theoretical Everythings Girlier With Frills trope would be applicable here. And chest bow/broach would be another good costume trope, I think.
