One thing that I've always found pretty interesting is the way Stax Records arranged their Stax/Volt 1967 tour. Basically, Booker T. and the MG's would go on first and do a short instrumental set, then they'd be joined by the Memphis Horns to become the Mar-Keys and do few more numbers, then each of the singers on the tour (Eddie Floyd, Arthur Conley, Carla Thomas, Sam & Dave and Otis Redding) would take their turn fronting the group and doing their own tunes.
