I was really sad to hear that there would be no Tron 3. And worse, Tron himself has given up!!
Not interested in Tomorrowland, but I was interested in the next Tron movie!

"You protect the thing you want to protect to the very end. That's the right way to do it."Wait, I don't get it, why is Tomorrowland to blame for no Tron 3?

Tomorrowland's failure with reviews and box office apparently made Disney reconsider releasing original sci-fi films in the future, or something along those lines.
I'm on Youtube Reviewing Things Cause I can.Aw, that's too bad. I liked Tomorrowland.
Pinkie Pie and flugelhorns are a bad combination.-throws computer monitor across thheromr typignnsn blindrightnow-

I'm totally okay with this.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? There's already a TRON reboot. It's called Code Ly-freakin-oko.

...Even with Jared Leto?
Oh God! Natural light!I want Tron 3.
I don't want a reboot.
Also I find it ridiculous that Disney canned the third movie but might be thinking about a reboot now. Seriously what gives?
"You protect the thing you want to protect to the very end. That's the right way to do it."I don't want a Tron reboot and I especially don't want Jared Leto starring in one.
Hard pass.
Too cryptic; didn't read: TRON Lightcycle Power Run, a popular attraction from Shanghai Disneyland is coming to Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland in 2020 or 2021, replacing Tomorrowland Speedway.
The fact that they're willing to build a ride for the franchise now makes me thing that Tron Ascension might have just been uncancelled? I mean, you wouldn't build a ride for a dead franchise, right?
I mean...
I don't know how demand works for theme park rides, since it's likely this ride is replacing one that I imagine had been in Tomorrowland since the beginning because A) the Speedway must be an antique and B) everyone was apparently screaming "hey, how come they get to have the super-cool looking ride? We want that thing!" (I say "apparently" because I didn't even know that ride existed at all.)
Then again, it's D23 Expo time now, and apparently they'll be talking about live-action projects tomorrow...so maybe we'll be getting a TRON related surprise then? :/
I had a friend who did the DCP and worked at the Tomorrowland Speedway. Thing has been breaking down for years and was kind of dangerous to the staff and customers. The workers would have to jump out onto and between tracks to repair the ride on the fly. The people that work on it usually transfer off that ride ASAP because of how much they hate working on it. My friend didn't (for some reason), but he was offered multiple times by his bosses.
First Tomorrowland derailed Tron. Now Tron derails Tomorrowland. The cycle continues. Literally.
:
Number 1, I personally think it's so cool that you knew a guy who worked at Disney World.
Number 2, I guess that adds more weight to the "current attraction is an antique" theory.
Though given what you just said, this now looks like a "kill 2 birds with 1 stone" plan: replace the old ride and make room for the shiny new ride to both get rid of the thing that's falling apart anyway and to give the people what they want.
Smart.
EDIT: The irony is strong in this turn of events.

We now have a first look for Tron: Ares by Deadline:
https://deadline.com/2024/02/tron-ares-first-look-photo-unveiled-disney-1235842357/
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.(Insert raging indifference here)
Look, if it weren't being headlined by Jared Leto then maybe, but personal issues with him aside, he tends to have a negative effect on properties he touches.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I know everyone's going to passive-aggressively side-eye nitpick the heck out of this movie just because he's there and not a more well-liked actor, but getting a Tron sequel at all is pretty exciting. I thought this franchise was dead.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).I feel like this entire franchise has been getting this weird up and down treatment. Disney knows it has fans, but I don't think any of the movies did well enough for them to constantly pump out sequels, and the ride at the parks has been stuck in rollercoaster hell for like... what, four years?
Still, guess it's nice they still got some faith within it.
I want to be excited for this movie. I loved Tron and Tron Legacy. I just wish that it had a different lead.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadSo the hype for the movie has vanished just because Jared Leto is here? Come on, it can't be that bad.

When you wish upon a star, you don't get FUCKING TRON 3.
(kisses hand and waves to the audience) G'night everybody.
