[up] But wouldn't the woman get infected too?

Infected with what? You said he'd been "irradiated", not that he had some kind of disease. Now, if you mean that he has radioactive materials inside him: that depends. First off, if he's so radioactive as to be a threat to another person's health, he will be very sick, and in no shape to be having sex. Second, if I remember correctly, radioactive particles become lodged in the bone marrow, not the reproductive organs, but I'm not an expert in that, you should google "radiation sickness" to make sure.

[up] Alright I'll be specific: What if the guy came out of a nuclear weapons test alive, yet irradiated and with a scrambled internal reproduction system?

Demarquis' point still stands: If it's recent enough for the transmission of radioactive particles to be an issue, he probably won't be in any shape to be having sex. It would be an oddly selective nuclear weapons test that only caused enough DNA damage to render a man infertile while not causing more immediate issues as well.

So...either the damage has taken place sufficiently long ago that the acute symptoms have passed (in which case there most likely won't be enough radioactive material inside the reproductive system to cause any problems) or it's been recent enough that it's a moot point because the poor bastard is too busy going through hell to worry about sex.

Reality is for those who lack imagination.

Simply being irradiated wouldnt necessarily create anything in your body that would pass to someone else. That term simply means that you were exposed to radiation. If you are exposed to enough radiation, complex molecules in your body may begin to break down, specifically the DNA in your cells. This can cause massive cell death and organ failure. But it isnt contagious in any way. You can eat an animal that has been dosed with extremely high radiation and not experience any ill effects (which is why microwave ovens are safe to use). An irradiated body will not itself radiate anything.

Problems might occur if radioactive particles are embedded in the body. In that case, the particles will continue to radiate energy, and contact with enough of them might very well cause someone else to experience radiation sickness. But that's going to be a hospital scenario, because that much radiation is going to cause the original person to become extremely sick.

[up][up] But what about in Metal Gear's case, where it's revealed Big Boss was involved in the hydrogen bomb test and survived, albeit with sterility?

Leaving aside the fact that Metal Gear is basically "Artistic License: The Videogame Series", it happened quite a long time in the past. Presumably Big Boss went through full-blown radiation sickness for a while, then when the immediate symptoms wore off part of the lasting damage was that his reproductive system was shot to hell.

Reality is for those who lack imagination.

[up] But that's the problem. Given Big Boss mentioned it to Para-Medic in Solid 3, the former would have been referring to the fact he participated at the Castle Bravo test, and that he not only survived, albeit with sterility, he got some from EVA a decade after that.
