What I can read from that EULA basically says: We reserve the right to put shitty DRM on your computer and collect whatever the fuck we want. It's to stop piratez.

So more anti-piracy that screws over the normal consumer while pirates avoid it with no problem?

sigh Unless I see some changes I really doubt I'm going to be getting any EA game from now on..

Because developers would love to screw their customers over to get more customers. (That is people who normally pirate the game).

Either because EA finally collapsed under the weight of its own assholishness or with bitter longing as we strap on the GPS ankle bracelet and prepare to get the anal swab that the latest generation of DRM requires.

Simple English translation:

"We can collect whatever data about you we want and give it to anybody we feel like giving it to. If you don't like that, don't load the game."

Well, fine, then EA, I will never get another game from you again. Consider Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit to be my very last purchase from you.

Steam and Windows Live do the same thing to, but they are Winged Teddy Bears with suggar compared to what EA is doing with their "Download Manager"

Stay classy, EA. Stay classy.

Guess this means no Mass Effect 3 for me.

[up]You can order it through Best Buy and Game Stop; according to the Bio Ware site anyway. Not sure if you need Origin to run it ala Steam.

TOR and Battlefield 3 require origin, but those are online games. Still...outlook not so good.

I can't wait for the inevitable key logger DRM required.

^Wonder if KeyScrambler would work on a Keylogger DRM...

Maybe if there was, someone would tell QFX Software...

I hardly considered buying Mass Effect 3 anyway, so thanks for making me stop considering it entirely fellas! And thus John Shepard proudly continues the tradition of saving the universe from an ISO image mounted onto a virtual drive.

Steam makes (made?) those hardware surveys, but at least they're optional and anonymous.

I have a feeling they'll either back down, or make Origin optional for their major releases.

I thought they would have learned their lesson after the Spore debacle. And I really wanted to try BF 3. Oh well. I'm kind of on the fence about trying ME 3... if it turns out to require this I will pirate without remorse.

And to think I was leaning towards getting The Old Republic. Now that game has to be pretty damn good if I'm going to download Origin. That being said, since I play Mass Effect on the console, I still fully intend to get ME3

I should note that Facebook pulls this crap too.

If it weren't for that whole part where EA reserves the right to call the authorities on your ass if you do something funny with their programs, then I wouldn't mind the rest of the EULA's requirements.

I know they decided to add in that nasty little line as a means to protect themselves and legally retaliate after that whole PS 3 hacking debacle, but this still seems a bit too threatening...

[up]The difference is they only enforce it if some large company complains about copyright infringement, or the authorities need to access someone's personal data due to a criminal investigation. The same question goes for EA as well on how they plan to behave towards the consumers - namely, what exactly will they perceive as a violation of the EULA, and are they really serious about enforcing it, or just using that line as a means of legal protection against future hacking incidents?
