Yeah, fairy tales seem to be a public domain sort of thing.

I'm wondering how far we can stretch the definition of fairy tale.

I'll probably be in.

Do we need to include the themes when we PM you?

EDIT: Whoops, never mind, saw not to include the themes.

EDIT AGAIN: And saw to include themes in PM, but not uploaded story. Boy, I missed a bunch. [lol]

Buhh, being eaten by school.

Gonna give this short to one of my friends who actually writes, she should tear it apart nicely.
Look, you can't make me speak in a logical, coherent, intelligent bananna.

This "fairy tale" thing seems to be a source of much confusion.

^^ It is rather... broad.

[up][up] It's actually an old avatar. :P I just switched back to it for a while.

[up] Yes it is. I wonder how stories in that cat are gonna be judged.

The judges should be open-minded, to say the least.
So what if they have a Mean Brit or two? It couldn't get any worse, right? Right?

^If he's on the panel then I better use the Oxford comma.

Ugh, I hate everything I've written for this contest so far. And I'm running out of time.

There's still nearly a month left, y'know.

Finished the second rough draft. Assumed one page of longhand was approx 500 words, so with 10 pages, that gave me about 5K. Typed in the first 5 pages, half the story.

It's 850 words.

So total WC is about 1700. Not even enough for the minimum.

Okay, my style is somewhat minimalist. This piece has a beginning, a middle, an end. It has some fairly well-drawn characters, if I do say so myself. It could probably use more description.

Think positive. I have four topics I left out because I was afraid there wasn't room. Now there's room. And plenty of time to fill it.
Under World. It rocks!

Since I haven't mentioned my own progress yet, I think my story is going good places. At first I was worried that my idea looked too similar to another, far more famous story, which I admittedly used as inspiration. But I think I've made it suitably "Freezairy" now. Although I do hope that I don't go over the word limit.

About halfway done with my first draft. I've got a little over 2100 words, and I'm so far pleased with what's happening. I'm also seeing some aspects of my style come out, in comparison to other stuff I've written.

For some reason, I decided to go with three themes instead of two. Incidentally, one of them indirectly provided the premise, while the second one led into the third for me.

I think this might be the first short story that I don't have to write for school that I actually finish.

I randomly met a Norse beginner writer on Omegle. She's 20. We exchanged Facebooks, and now I'm critquing her work and functioning like an editor. I tried to steer her over here. If I manage to get her lost among these pages, that will buy me some time (and make some future explanations easier).

I had almost finished mine, but then I realised that I hated how the plot had turned out and deleted the last 500 words or so. It's been over a week since then, and I haven't touched it since.

...Guess I should get back to it. Some time.

I've finished a first draft and am reasonably happy with it. Not sure whether this is the one I'll end up going with, though...

Left my entry as a "gift" in one of my friends mailbox. evil grin Hope they got it.

They're the sort of people who couldn't ignore it now that they have it, and they couldn't read it without at least a few comments. Might be slightly evil of me to do, but I think they'll enjoy the story enough to forgive me.

Hopefully.

I've completed the first act. It's starting to feel a bit long-winded, though—not bad, but I'm not sure it'll be able to compete with stories that get to the point faster.

I'm having some real fun describing things in my story. Although I do hope that my story doesn't feel rushed in the end. It sort of fits in within the conventions of the theme I chose, though.

Incidentally, this is my second story idea. But I managed to work a theme (not a contest theme, more like an idea-theme) from the first one into this one! :D

Okay, sign me up as a writer entrant. If I fail to get this sucka up in the air a week before the deadline, I'll probably sign up as judge, if that's all right.
