About how long does 5000 words look like?
Because I came up with exactly the kind of story I want, but I'm worried I won't be able to fit it all in 5000...
You can usually get away with going over 5000 if those extra words helped the story feel more the way it should be. Trying to go under the word count doesn't work as well most of the time.
Warm hugs and morally questionable advice given here. Prosey BitchfestAlright thanks. Because I figured out the perfect way to sync the themes, just want to make sure it wouldn't go over.
I penalize people for exceeding 5000. One of the constraints of the contest is writing within the word count limits.
Brevity is the soul of wit. I was able to trim a good 1000 words off my entry last time when I went looking for it.

...I'm going to have to trim down on my usual style, then, aren't I?
I hate word-count limits...
I am now known as Flyboy.Changed the themes I'm going to use, not telling anyone because I might change them again and also anonymity.
I'll judge.
HOLY SHIT KINO IN THE WRITER'S BLOCK FORUM!
I'm marking this on my calender...
I am now known as Flyboy. Why the surprise, I've been here before dude.

I've never seen you here. Also, you and Barkey (whom I tend to think of as a linked pair) also don't strike me as the artistic type...
Then again, you're on TV Tropes, so...

I am now known as Flyboy.I'm an artist, albeit the martial kind.
I would have thought you were more of the "seducing redheads" kind of artist.
No submission for the contest? I kind of want to see what would happen if you wrote fiction...

I am now known as Flyboy. That's more of a science than an art, but it's a long story. Believe it or not I used to be an English major back in the day, then i realized blowing stuff up was more appealing. If I wrote anything now it would sound like Heinlen and Hemingway made sweet love.
BTW, TVT is full of nerds.

You were going to be an English major?
My mind = blown.
Now I want Barkey to come and write something for the contest. This invalidates everything I ever thought about you guys.
Of course it's full of nerds; would you have it any other way?
I am now known as Flyboy.Look at Kino, all judgy-judge.
Invalidates? Books are fun dude. I have no idea what you had in mind, my gun rack is right next to my bookshelf.
I'm always judging people.

Gin rack or gun rack? Or both?
I dunno. I imagine badass military dude, and I don't think "guy who reads books for fun."
Hidden Depths, I suppose? Then again, I want to join the military, so I already fucked that one up...
I am now known as Flyboy.Dude, I read more than I shoot;ok, maybe about equal. Preconceived notions are bad m'kay?

Finished an outline.
I know, I know.
Now where is Major Tom? If we can get all of you involved, we'll have the whole set!

I am now known as Flyboy. He's around here as well.
Well not HERE here, but he's in Writer's Block.
That I knew, Kino. I haven't seen him do the writer contests, though. Then again, this is only my second one...
We'd have to pry him away from his original fiction for awhile first, though...
I am now known as Flyboy.
<spit take>
I could have sworn the deadline was September 19.
Under World. It rocks!
