I could have sworn the deadline was September 19.

About how long does 5000 words look like?

Because I came up with exactly the kind of story I want, but I'm worried I won't be able to fit it all in 5000...

You can usually get away with going over 5000 if those extra words helped the story feel more the way it should be. Trying to go under the word count doesn't work as well most of the time.

Alright thanks. Because I figured out the perfect way to sync the themes, just want to make sure it wouldn't go over.

I penalize people for exceeding 5000. One of the constraints of the contest is writing within the word count limits.

Brevity is the soul of wit. I was able to trim a good 1000 words off my entry last time when I went looking for it.

I hate word-count limits...

Changed the themes I'm going to use, not telling anyone because I might change them again and also anonymity.

I'll judge.

I've never seen you here. Also, you and Barkey (whom I tend to think of as a linked pair) also don't strike me as the artistic type...

I would have thought you were more of the "seducing redheads" kind of artist.

No submission for the contest? I kind of want to see what would happen if you wrote fiction...

That's more of a science than an art, but it's a long story. Believe it or not I used to be an English major back in the day, then i realized blowing stuff up was more appealing. If I wrote anything now it would sound like Heinlen and Hemingway made sweet love.

BTW, TVT is full of nerds.

That I knew, Kino. I haven't seen him do the writer contests, though. Then again, this is only my second one...

We'd have to pry him away from his original fiction for awhile first, though...
