Yeah, I was bothered when I saw this earlier too. I'd support a rename to Dating Website Plot or something like that.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyNot the same thing at all. This name is quite descriptive. I doubt it was named after the company, it was probably just a coincidence, due to how obvious this name is.
Still a problem however. It doesn't worth much fighting for it, as it has low usage.
I support this name as well.

I believe at the time we picked it because it was obvious and didn't exist yet. I see someone has picked up the domain.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickNthing Dating Website Plot, for the reasons presented.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Dating Website Plot is a good one.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickAfter a quick look at the other wiki page, I'm pretty sure we didn't come up with this before they did.
First key to interpreting a work: Things mean things. This doesn't mean the trope was named after them. It is a pretty obvious name, after all.
Anyway, how does 'consensus' works on these cases? There have been no objection so far, so what should we do? Run a crowner anyway or just go and rename it?

I would give it more than half an hour, at least.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Does this really have to be online matchmakers only?
Also, this isn't a plot. Plots are many events that form a narrative structure with rises, falls and climaxs. There's nothing that makes a defined story with matchmaker.com, it is just the conceit that matchmaking services make good devices to have hilarity ensue. The big list of things that can happen is just everything one particular has seen from the look, there isn't a pattern and there doesn't have to be. The matchmaking service is more like a MacGuffin than a plot- it's a device to get the ball rolling.
Call it Wacky Matchmaking Service (though "wacky" is a bit "fifties sitcom red head") or Wacky's Matchmaking Service: with other matchmaking services you get a few nervous dates with somebody who shares your love of exotic fish collecting, with Wacky's Matchmaking Service you are treated to a Terrible Interviewees Montage before meeting the perfect partner for a night of sitcom comedy.

Not the best, but I agree that the current name has gotta go. The first time I saw it I cringed, afraid it was a page about the website.

Actually a girl. What about a simple Matchmaker Plot?
Although that may be a bit too broad.
Hyperforce Go! http://vmkid.me/I think Dating Service Plot is probably the clearest because it's different when just one person is playing Matchmaker.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickDating Service Plot, please or Dating Service Hilarity or something like that. This plot existed long before there was online dating, as the examples show.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Hilarity is bad because this is often times Played for Drama with the person being a creepy serial killer.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickDating Service Plot. Can we make it unanimous and skip the crowner?
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Needs a rename, definitely.
Matchmaking Service Goes Wrong?
"You want to see how a human dies? At ramming speed." - Emily Wong.Dating Service Plot thirded
Nous restons ici. What is the plot then, if it's a plot?
Character uses a matchmaking service, things go awry. The "awry" can be funny or dramatic.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Considering that "things go awry" is half of what you wrote there, we should include something which suggests that "things go awry".

Dating Service Plot would work.
I think the cases like this involve skipping the single prop crowner, correct? There's no objections to the concept of a rename, after all.
Picking through names, I think Dating Service Disaster fits everything we're looking for. It makes it clear that the trope existed before dating websites (it was discussed, although not used, in the movie Singles, before the Internet was widespread). It gets across that there are problems. It avoids using the word "plot" for instances where it is not the plot but merely a background element. It can be used for both comedic and dramatic versions of the trope. Plus, it's not a long name and I think the vast majority would find it Exactly What It Says on the Tin.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.
Crown Description:
Rename Matchmaker Dot Com? Vote Up for Yes, Down for No. Pros:- Trope is named after an actual dating service and is therefore a name conflict.
- Title does not accurately describe that this is about a plot involving a dating service.
Problem. Matchmaker.com actually exists. While our page is a trope (and not a page about the actual website. Why would we have a page on them in the first place is beyond me)
It'd be kind of like having an article called Microsoft that is a trope about software companies.
