I followed the series once upon a time. It was entertaining enough, but nothing spectacular:
- Character design was... odd, to say the least. That's what you get for using a fan contest to design your characters. For what it's worth, the chapter where the Great White Shark Banchou leapt the causeway and attacked the truck was the point where I felt that they'd run out of ideas and started going downhill.
- Willing Suspension of Disbelief can only take you so far. The first few characters were okay, but then you had the plot to take over Japan* through... superpowered Delinquent gang leaders? Even those who'd look out of place in freakin' Cromartie High School? (Again, see: Great White Shark Banchou. They put a giant shark in a school uniform.)
- Characterisation has been pretty stereotypical so far. Kongou Banchou is a Gentle Giant who goes into Beware the Nice Ones, Iai Banchou shifts between Celibate Hero and Honor Before Reason, Gouriki Banchou is basically a Big Eater Cute Bruiser, Gay Batman Hikyou Banchou is the Token Evil Teammate (except that he doesn't really do anything particularly evil after the fight against Kongou), and Nenbutsu Banchou is a Sinister Minister / Dirty Old Man (okay, so maybe he's young, but the baldness doesn't help). Unfortunately, that's all the characterisation I've seen in the scanlated chapters so far, and it makes them feel a little flat. Of course, YMMV on this matter.

Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation. One of the things I like is that Akira kongou can now grow 300 meters tall.

Watch SymphogearI've only just read the first chapter. It brings tears to my eyes. It's perfect stereotype, perfectly executed. "Apologize to this girl". As for willing suspension of disbelief... I was never able to suspend my disbelief even for one instant. To me, this is all a magnificent joke.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I wonder if anyone is still scanlating?
Watch SymphogearI love this series. It runs on pretty much nothing but testosterone. Too bad it rarely gets scanlated, if ever.
And sheer insanity. Well, I thought bishounen swordsman banchou was pretty hot. Just that, well, besides having a delightful character design, I've seen much better examples of this trope before, so it was kind of underwhelming. I sill love Kongou's completely Übermensch logic: the strong do not join up to impose their will upon the weak, and if you think you're strong, you should rely on your own strength, not use that of others as a crutch.
The Buddhists are extremely creepy. BISHOP MOZGUS?!

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. This series is basically what influenced Medaka Box's later Action arcs (The villain group and the whole genetic experiment type things are eerily similar to each other).

Watch SymphogearI really doubt that.
It's a stretch. Not to mention your latter point isn't even what most of Medaka box's fighting arc was about.

I see it.
Well, except in Medaka Box, you don't have people people turning 300 meters tall ad causing the planet to shake and massive storms to form just by fighting.
Both have government origins ad Both have evil dads that have to do with genetically enhancing their offspring as a final boss.

Anyone know of this series? Its supposed to bhe really awesome.
Too bad the scanlators are like 50 chapters behind the raws.
