I don't like Game Theory for the simple fact that his research is only into the science/learning aspect of things and not actually accurate to the game. Like he makes a billion oversights for game lore.

That and, even for the science/learning research I just praised him for, he also contradicts himself with later videos that are the complete opposite of what he said before. Such as when he said fanservice in fighting games get in the way of competition and then later saying it's good for fighting games.

I find it hypocritical to claim to be the smartest show in gaming when he constantly fails at research.

Ignoring the game lore is usually on purpose because he's examining things from a real life perspective. For example, in the Star Fox video, I'm pretty sure he acknowledges the G-Diffusers but he chooses to ignore them for the sake of seeing if the whole metal legs thing would work.

As for changing his stance on issues, you are aware that new data is being made available all the time, right? If you're going to use that argument, you might as well hate on all real life scientists because that shit happens possibly literally all the time.

You don't use science to prove you're right. You use science to become right.

Steering back on track before the mods come in. Has there been any sightings of cheaters online?

In the original game, only the one I reported a few days/weeks ago (who at this point I imagine has gotten the boot) and now one else. No idea about Deluxe.

Sometimes I wonder if I met a cheater online, or if it's just really bad lag.

Like a green shell direct hit on a racer, character spins and flails and coins fall out while mainting full speed and control somehow.

Nah, that's just lag screwing you over. What you see on your screen doesn't exactly show where the other players actually are, so what the game thought on your end was a shell that hit its target perfectly actually ended up missing its target on their end, so you end up with the character on your end flailing about like they have been hit, but keeping on moving forwards since the other player wasn't hit on their screen.

Is it me, or are coins even more common findings in item boxes? I hope they never show up again starting with the next Mario Kart entry.

We probably have a bigger chance to see coins thanks to double inventory. And yeah, coins from item boxes have to go. :)

I actually want fake item boxes back over coins from item boxes, even if it doesn't block anything.

For green shell lag, it helps to aim slightly ahead of the enemy racer.

I don't really mind coins, to be honest. The mild disappointment I feel when I get one from an item box is nothing compared to the controller-breaking rage I felt being assaulted with items at all times, from every angle, in Mario Kart Wii. Coins help keep the tracks clean and navigable.

Plus, I liked bananas in Diddy Kong Racing.

I'd rather have a crapload of fake item boxes and banana peels than have a single coin item ever. At least with those you can do some damage.

Coins are fine. I'm rarely at 10 coins and that slight boost to top speed is appreciated. Sure, I never want one but they're always just a minor annoyance to me at worst.

They don't bother me. Unless I already have 10. Then I'd wish even for just a banana instead.

What they should have done was have a chance to give you a coin or two automatically with each item box pickup, the chance being higher the less coins you have. Being capped at 10 would yield no chance.

What also bothers me about the coins is how you can still get them even when capped. At least in Super Mario Kart, there was no coin cap so you could have any amount beyond 10 act as a buffer.

Yeah, the coins would be fine with me if they rigged it so they had no chance of showing up if you already hit the coin cap.

That sounds like a good idea, but it would make getting the golden glider that much harder.

I wasn't sure whether or not the cap negated any extra coins you collected. I was under the impression you could only get a maximum of 10 per race.

The speed boost caps at ten but the game keeps track of any additional coins you collect. At least that's what I've heard.

I forgot to mention how much I hate the Lightning Bolt. At least with the Blue Shell you had advance notice, had the option of the Super Horn, and you didn't drop your item.

Yeah, people give the blue shell crap, but at least it's possible to counter. The lightning is completely undodgeable. Although on the other hand, the lightning generally affects everybody, so it's much less likely to screw you over like the blue shell does. And since it knocks out everybody's items it actually makes you less likely to get hit with a followup.

How about that Boo item? It's super annoying.

If I'm in the lead, I wanna hold on to the Super Horn to take out a shell, but 70% of the time it's taken away by a ghost before I get to use it. [lol]

At least with the Boo it's designed to steal your items. Lightning Bolts just fuck everyone over in the most obnoxious way imaginable. It's sickening that it's a main staple of the series. I'm sure there were plenty of other ways to attack multiple racers at once without being so damn common and out of the blue.

The Blue Shell was designed to keep the lead racer in check, as well as provide anyone in between a means of watching out. It's like the IRS of Mario Kart. Lightning Bolts, on the other hand, are just plain wasps that do harm and no good.

No item will ever be as bad as the storm cloud, although it could've been salvaged if it didn't activate automatically as soon as you got it.

Also, the star can counter lightning, but given how both items work, you're exceedingly lucky if it's able to protect you.

@Raining Metal

Thunderbolts are just a massive catch up item for the person who has it where they're likely very far behind and is probably the only item that is sort of an equalizer. Aside from Stars, you can avoid Thunderbolts if you're on a launcher, but that too is luck. Coins and Thunder Clouds are the most useless items in the franchise. The only other items that were able to attack multiple players at once were the Bullet Bill and nearly every special item in Double Dash. Bullet Bills are risky in tracks that have gaps or wide turns since having the item wear out at the wrong time can set you back like you made no progress. The special items in Double Dash were broken as hell because they were nearly impossible to counter or avoid. I found them more annoying than the Thunderbolt because they were so damn common and felt like I was playing Smash Bros with the item frequency cranked to max.

The entire game revolves around rubberbanding/catch up play with items. Thunderbolts are a necessary evil I think.
