No, not really.
I suppose von Spitzer could be into German classical music, but that would be stereotypical.
I mostly associate certain songs/genres with my characters, but they tend to be anachronistic. Irish folk rock with my technically-Irish cowboy, for example.
Mimes + swing sounds oddly attractive.

I had one character who was a former member of a PMC who'd gone freelance. He had a habit of either softly singing punk songs to himself or humming the theme from The Prisoner as he either prepared/checked over his gear, or set things up (his specialty was as a sniper).
Embroiled in slave rebellion, I escaped crucifixion simply by declaring 'I am Vito', everyone else apparently being called 'Spartacus'.My stories main antagonist, Virgil, is a fan of jazz.
One of my protagonists is a fan of bands like Linkin Park (but not Linkin Park itself, it takes place in a completely different world), but that's because he's the angsty 14 year old dick I wish I never was, and I really wish I never liked Linkin Park.
Still Sheepin'I've never actually thought about this before . . .
I don't think I've written many characters who'd like modern music, but I've got at least two who'd be fond of old hymns.
Also, at some point I want to write a character whose favorite song is "Being a Dickhead's Cool."

That's Feo . . . He's a disgusting, mysoginistic, paedophilic asshat who moonlights as a shitty writer—Something AwfulJeremy is a huge fan of Ska.
Benkei is a fan of Classical Music. And some rock.
Is it selfish that I'm happy as we pass the setting sun?I've only really touched on it once, in relation to Shamal; she listens to something martial and sad in the aftermath of a battle, which in my head is the main theme from Letters From Iwo Jima, but it's highly likely Shamal has never seen that movie, so in the story it's never named.
A good number of scenes have a specific musical accompaniment in my head, and sometimes specific behaviors do, but the characters themselves and their taste in it isn't something I explore.
Nous restons ici.My Amazonian Beauty Lady of War Major Badass, Major Tanjha Kapriserii is a huge fan of 80s-90s R&B/Love Ballads. Particularly Whitney Houston and Jodeci.
lets see...most of the characters in my stories live 20-minutes into the future, so if i were to give them any actual bands theyd have "really old" tastes, no matter how "new" it might be right now :s
so all i can really do is say "____ likes: generic [insert genre here] of the future" and move on.
that being said, i did listen to some music just yesterday that, for the first time ever, made me think "[insert name here] would totally love this shit...if he wasnt born 50 years from now"
That's not necessarily true. People still listen to the Beatles all the time, and they're almost 50 now, depending when you start counting (I count from the release of Please Please Me). I also enjoy Buddy Holly, who's even older. Elvis is still classic, and he's the same age as Buddy. And even if you'd say they're too backwater to still count, Led Zeppelin is 40 or so and Aerosmith is just as old.
I listen to Bach a lot as well, and he's over 300.
I'm just saying, it's not much of a stretch to assume people in the future will still listen to oldies.
Still Sheepin'Well, Feelgood enjoys Motley Crue, while Longbottom is an avid fan of Donna Summer.
George enjoys jazz music as well as some classic rock, AC/DC in particular. Phil has a thing for classic rock, too. Liz is more of a Top 40, hip-hop kinda girl.

Weird in a Can (updated M-F)Leoyan Shen really enjoys Radiohead,post-punk and electronic music. He would enjoy The XX if he wasn't living in the 90s.
Ryan from my main series enjoys various extreme metal genres (which is a pun because he has the power to control metal),metalcore and hardcore punk. Lirios Riselia enjoys classical music.
The above two characters are from another solar system and universe while the first one is from a different dimension of Earth.

Minoru Sykes: Hardcore and post-hardcore
Seamus Vescheslav: Lives on a post-apocalyptic Earth. No music.
Kirabo Lowen: Metalcore, anime soundtracks, dubstep
Oz Evans: Instrumental
Jack Wells: Metal/metal subgenres (metalcore, deathcore, etc.), alternative, various soundtracks, orchestra, techno, dubstep, various classic rock, a very limited amount of rap (he is picky about the content)
Tomas Reid: Classical/orchestra, video game soundtracks, various classic rock. Metal/metal sugenres after Jack introduces it to him and interests him in the progressive style.

In the one Harry Potter alternate future fic I wrote some of, many of the students are fans of "toggle", described as less melodious than rap. Toggle musicians tend to wear formal suits and have extremely long hair. (Future!Draco Malfoy is often mistaken for a toggle player by Muggles.) Their parents uniformly hate the stuff.
Talion tends to favor the whinier sort of country-western because it's good drinking music.
From Crushed:
- Toby Hutchinson=show tunes
- Jack Cunningham=jazz
- Maya Daniels=J-pop boybands
- Joseph Williams=blues, anything kind of slow really
- Nigel Bradford=classical
- Nora Cunningham=classical
- Heather Hutchinson=none in particular
- Tyler Thompson=metal/rock
- Kevin Chang=boy bands
- Lydia Rodriguez=none in particular

I actually do say what music Gabriel is listening to, and at times they are plot points, because the book is a romance rooted in his memories of the 1980's. Another reason is that he has built up a 'public persona' - what friends call his 'mask' - to help him deal with the world, and so some of that shapes, and is shaped by, what music he listens to. For the record Swing (Sinatra etc), Classical, and 80s/New Romantic/Punk.
In a I Want My Beloved to Be Happy moment, he has a temporary split from Lucy. They stay in touch by placing coded Facebook posts on their own walls, hoping the other will get the subtext. Lucy becomes upset because he didn't 'like' one of her's - 'Someone like you' by Adele. Rich comforts her by saying it hurts Gabriel too much, because though Gabriel doesn't realise it, he has spent the last 25 years trying to find someone like her, so he can't bring himself to listen to it. (Yeah, ok, partial Avatar moment there!)

Do the job in front of you.My hot amazon wrestler likes boogie and upbeat music in general.
Qing Lan favors bossa nova, jazz and classical music.
Randy Reuter sings indie folk at the protagonist's favorite hang out.
The not-so-geeky hacker loves 8-bit music. Nostalgic, no?
That's all I can think of at the moment...
╮(╯_╰)╭I know that one character always listens to the AKIRA soundtrack whenever his job (a semi-prolific actor) starts to make him hate himself/the world/his life. That's all I can come up with at the moment.
"Jack, you have debauched my sloth."My characters Tomika and Kerou are both big fans of Fall Out Boy.
(屮≖益≖)屮 彡 ┻━┻ F*ck yo' table; Go read my book! —> http://goo.gl/mtXkmMatthew would probably like Life Is Beautiful, by Sixx Am.
It fits him a bit too well...
Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.There are certain types of music which I am sure that certain characters would enjoy, but considering the setting would likely never hear (of); for example, I can easily see Emil having an excessive fondness for flamboyant '80s dance music, or Caterling going for the full Reservoir Dogs homage complete with soundtrack and straight razor. But in-story, it really doesn't come up too much.
Maybe I'll make a little list of what they would listen to, just for fun, and post it here later...
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.Tara invokes her love for Emilie Autumn in dialogue in the second Mythology 101 book, but other than that I haven't given it much thought. Hmm, let's see...
I suppose William (because he's a nerd) and Nathan (because he can appreciate good humor, being a bottomless fountain of it himself) would listen to things like Weird Al Yankovic, Barenaked Ladies and They Might Be Giants.
Kylie would be into some of the harder classic rock (Black Sabbath, The Who, maybe Styx) and fast, upbeat dance/techno. Basically, anything that gets the adrenaline pumping... music to kick someone's ass to.
Chris would abhor rap and instead prefer jazz or swing, maybe blues every once in a while. He might lament the fact that his race no longer produces real music.
Not sure about the others... will have to think further.
Jesus saves. Gretzky steals, he scores! It's one of those details I think up on the spot if necessary, usually, but I couldn't resist giving Julia (nice, quiet, romantic girl from small town Minnesota) and Alice (completely insane professional killer who is sometimes on the same side as Julia) a shared taste for songs from Disney Animated Canon. Julia because she's a bit of a romantic and a daydreamer, and Alice because she likes to creep people out before she kills them. You can imagine how Julia feels about their commonality.

Huh, lemme see:
- Casper Stratoavis: A weird combination of Kreator, Within Temptation and Scatman John.
- Marcus Aftermath: SOAD and Serj Tankjaan.
- Michael Rattenberger: Duane & Brando
- Amadeo "Night Shooter" Nocturne: Mostly power metal of all sorts.
- Uriel: Glam metal.
- Himler Gunsche: Classical, especially violins.
To be honest, I've never thought about such topic. Need to rethink it and post an expanded version.

How do lizards fly?
Ever listen to music and think "yeah, X would totally love this" ?
I've only had three-four characters ever really give me music vibes.
One, a stoic self insert of myself from an older story, always liked rap in my head (Which is odd, because I dislike rap).
Another, a more generic surfer stoner dude, prefers techno/rap mixtures.
My time traveler likes funk.
And my mimes don't really have favorite music, but they've always been associated with swing in my head.
What about you guys?
Read my stories!
