I'm Back Bitches (not really)
#2: Jul 28th 2011 at 12:42:11 PM

Well I'm going to drop this in then.

Morning. Its Fusionman and I'm going to let the adults know how lucky they are.

(Said while Nickelodeon ads play) Ah Nick, Nick, Nick, (Said rapidly) Nick, Nick, Nick. What in the world happened to Nickelodeon? 1 of the channels that helped cause the golden age of TV animation is now a mess. While some of their shows go through the spectrum of decent to good most are bad. So let’s start with the Nicktoons. (Rugrats theme plays) Ahh Rugrats… A cute and relatively harmless show about a bunch of babies doing… baby things. Despite any form of logic this show sold like diamonds. So they decided to make some movies! (Show posters to the first two movies) While I have to admit these films were good (Show Rugrats Gone Wild poster) well two of them the execs got stupid as time went on… Hey guys remember how in Rugrats when they had adults watching the kids it was the ambiguously Jewish grandpa? (dodges badly animated tomato) Well near the end they threw in a (use picture of the character ) babysitter character. Who was she played by you ask? Amanda Bynes. (Pic of Bynes in Hairspray) Yes that chick from Hairspray. Now here’s the bigger question. WHY?! I wish I could say “I don’t know” I really do wish I could. I think I do though… It was for THE MONNNNEYYYY… Oh really no Tom and Jerry clip?! Sweet. Now to go back on subject I admit she wasn’t half-bad. Not as bad as some other cases of executives sticking their noses in.

(Cut back to me) Now guys I hate having to be here. (Me shaking head whispering) (Red text: 2 Hours Earlier) I won’t cover this. I won’t. (Back to me) Yeah… well it’s my self-imposed mission and I need to get this over with. Sigh… All Grown Up. (Show the title sequence as I talk) OK first I need to cover the history of how this… MONSTORSITY was made. Well Rugrats in 2004 had its 10th year anniversary. (birthday cake with a 10 candle on it) This 10 year special was an episode about the babies 10 years older. It was your average tween/teen sitcom… OK that’s a little mean. It was decent at best. Of course this was watched for 2 factors. 1. Nick hyped it to hell. 2. IT WAS THE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY YOU TWITS! Due to this some dumb executive had this thought process. ( Cut back to me as the executives)

“Harvey”: Hey look a lot people watched the special! HEY GUYS LET’S MAKE IT A TV SHOW!!

“Smart Exec” Didn’t they watch it because it was the 10th anniversary of Rugrats?

“Other dumb Exec” (Laugh Goofy Style) HYUCK YUCK YUCK! That’s silly. They obviously thought this was a great idea for a show! Let’s do it Harv!

“Harvey ” YEAH!!!

(Cut back to me grinning sheepishly) (Put in white text)Sorry for stealing a Nostalgia Critic joke guys! (In smaller text) Apologies to Linkara as well.

Me: So how did the characters change in the last 10 years?

Well Chuckie is a neurotic wreck. No surprises there… Dill is um… special.

So how's the style and should I keep going?

[up]I personally would try to avoid referencing TGTWG until you get on the site. Maybe it's just me, but it seems kind of...begging, in a way. I dunno.

Also, you're doing a show about classic Nick. Calling Amanda Bynes "the chick from Hairspray" seems like a bad idea.

Besides that, it seems fine. I'd watch, at any rate. Keep going with it.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Yes. Don't find yourself making reviews because you want to get on the site. Make reviews because you want to.

I don't think TVTropes has a screenplay mark-up. Just us some list markers and quotes.

Ya got a point. Why did I do Hairspray over the Amanda Show? That's just dumb... and yes that Sweet is meant to be either deadpan or in the style of Bruce Campbell saying Groovy.

Also is mentioning Les Yay in a show a bit rude?

I did quote block and spaced it myself.

And yeah I do want this for fun. Hence sitting through Sharkboy and Lavagirl and playing the Wild Force music. Yes I'm that obvious. tongue

Let me rephrase. What was the markup Fusionman was using in post #2 to make his script part smaller and in a box?

[up]Not really, so long as you've got a strong case for Les Yay being there and you're not just doing it for the sake of a lesbian joke.

Just checking to see if this worked. Actual content momentarally.
FIVE HOURS LATER
Brad Cast is sitting in a reclining chair, flipping through channels with the oldest fucking remote possible. The logo pops up and the following soundbytes play:
Deep Voice: It's The Brad Cast Show.
Comic Book Guy: Worst. Episode. Ever.
GIR: I love this show.
George: You feel that? That's the IQ in the air dropping.
(The soundbytes change each episode.) Brad stops channel surfing and turns to the camera.
Brad: Hi, and welcome. Today we're talking about pilots.
''(Picture of a pilot, with a caption reading "MANDATORY JOKE") No, not like that. Go on IMDB and look up "Pilot". Instantly your screen fills up with listings for the first episode of damn near every TV show premiere ever. Pilots don't always end up as first episodes, of course (clips of Star Trek and Buffy's pilots), but they're nevertheless essential and very hard to get right. You need to balance out which characters are the most important, how much background the audience needs—you may have all kinds of great stories you want to tell, but without a decent starting point no one will see them. The premiere is the most essential episode for generating viewer interest. So, return your trays to the upright position, because we're taking off (caption: "I'M SO SORRY") for a look at the best and worst of first episodes.

Dude. I'm mentioning the Les Yay for Dan Schinder. As in I Carly and Victorious. I have myself a case.

[up] Heh. Very nice start. Good to see your captions are sarcastic too.

Okay, it's a bit jumbled, but I'm still on my first draft. As I mentioned, premieres are the hardest to get right.

Right. Which is why I still got to find a movie that's bad but shouldn't be wasted.

The three I want to do are a level of awful that I need to know what I'm doing.

A disney midquel maybe?

[up]Perhaps.

To make up for the mess above, here's a bit from the episode after that, "Top 10 Invention Exchanges":

Brad: So, here they are, the Top 10—
Eric: Wait, wait, wait. What the hell are you doing?
Brad: The Top 10 Invention Exchanges...
Eric: Oh, sure, after that whole speech last week about "Oh, the first episode gives the audience an idea what to expect," you spend the second episode doing something completely different? Bullshit!
Brad: Look, I'm working on the Soap review, the Buffy review, and the Freaks and Geeks review! That's like a week's worth of viewing! Excuse me for doing a breather episode!
Eric: You don't do a breather episode your second week in!
Brad: Well, I...um...*knocks Eric out with a wooden plank* This is the Top 10 Invention Exchanges.

No Hail Whedon for Breather Episode? tongue

Well I finished the All Grown Up part. From where I updated...

Dill is um… special. I’d say some certain cases but I think I’d miss a key one.

-plays the invisible friend clip-

I SAID NO CLIPS!

-sighs- Anyways… Now Phil is a model builder. I assume he also plays Warhammer. Lil… is trying to be more girly. To be honest… that annoyed kid me. I mean looking back it makes sense. She’s 11/12 (caption: Google is your friend Fusion) and she’s hitting puberty.

-suddenly headesks- Sorry. My childhood and my brain just fought. Now the others. Will Kim… ALSO girly. Seriously no real tomboy who’s proud of it Nick what the hell? For Kim I’ll take it though, Tommy is still The Ace (A ding is heard as the caption: Trope Count: 1 shows) and Angelica…

Let’s play a game. Is she A. A dumb blond (ding starts) That doesn’t count! B. A bitch or C the nicest character in the cast? If you answered B good job! You have Common Sense. Wait you’re on the internet… Yeah that is a prize then. Now the episodes… remember when I mentioned tween sitcoms? It can’t even pick that. There’s an episode about an invisible friend, one about aliens and yada yada yada this show bores me. NEXT!

Dear lord the next few shows will be fun. Once I find clips. Of fucking Cat Dog.

Shout Factory is appearently releasing DVDs, I might wait until then.

And the "HAIL WHEDON" gag is for me mentioning TV Tropes. If I had said "taking what TV Tropes calls a breather episode", I'd use it, but the meaning of breather episode is pretty clear.

If you're going to talk about AGU's Genre Shifting, you better mention the Cupid episode. Also, word to the wise—Character Derailment means nothing to the casual viewer. I know from babysitting experience that plenty of people haven't seen Rugrats enough to care about what AGU did to the series. Try taking it on it's own merits instead of how it compares to its parent show.

So as a boring tween mess that can't decide its damn genre?

And yeah Shout Factory is very, very nice. I'll mention them at the end.

Yeah but AGU was the show to me that always meant betrayal to young kid me. I noticed Character Derailment and fan betrayal for the first time. And I was pissed. tongue

[up]Yes, exactly. If it seems like you only think the show sucked because you were a Rugrats fan, your complaints will come off as simple fanboy rage instead of legit critisism. Poke at things that someone with no background knowledge would think is stupid. The fanboy rage is okay, but there has to be more to it than that.

So a 10 year old suddenly getting an invisible friend?

Also should I willingly ignore the clip where Phil and Lil say they dropped Dil on his head?

[up]Personally, in light of his persona on the show, I found that funny, in a "his best friends caused him severe brain damage" kind of way.

And I can't say I remember that episode. Was the friend real? I had an imaginary friend when I was ten. If the friend's real, include it as an example of indecisive genre, but if not I see no reason to include it.

I find it good Black Comedy but there's always a sense of Dude, Not Funny! going.

Just imagine.

[up] I think the show itself couldn't decide if it was real. Or if it was bad or good.

No, the show thought it was good; it was the viewers that were indecisive.

Internet Review Shows tend to be good sources of Black Comedy, making light of things like domestic abuse and stalking. If that's not your thing, so be it, but there's no reason to feel skittish about it.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Actually point taken. Always good to do a "Yeah that explains it all."

Wait's there's a Ship Tease episode. Between Tommy and Kim. Is it worth the snark or is the size of Toy Ship a sign that no one cares?

[up]Depends how much came of it. AGU wasn't a very arc-y show. I'd pick specific episodes based more on badness than on something like shipping. Is the Tommy/Kim episode bad?

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

It feels odd because nothing comes of it. They don't date after this. They don't show any real subtext.

It feels like shipper pandering. And why would you be shipping the Rugrats? There's a biological thing about "If you're friends with someone for years before you're five or something your mind sees it as incest..."

That's a good point for an episode.
