For several minutes, Link said nothing, instead choosing to gaze on the detective in silence. A sharp light had come alight in his eyes, and they now shone with piercing, almost feral nobility, though one tempered by honesty and earnestness - like that of a mighty beast, unbound by law or word and yet virtuous all the same.
He looked, and he saw.
And after what seemed like an eternity, the Hero sighed and closed his eyes. The spark flickered and vanished, and when he opened them again, they were those of a ranch hand.
"I see," he said softly, with far more gentleness in his voice than before. "She's someone special, isn't she?"
"What? Say something! Am I so beautiful you've got no words left?"
"Someone who you'd go to any length to protect... is that what Fluttershy is to you?"
"Is that why?"

"Yes," Fluttershy answered Rey, "I know I can. Celestia knows what sort of hardships these critters were put through when they were under the care of Stranger. If they were taken out of the wild, they should at least experience love and kindness. When I saw the look in their eyes when Stranger came up to me, the fear they had of him, I knew I just had to take them under my wing."
She gazed over at the sleeping fuzzles, the puffballs snoozing soundly. "I think I'm the only who can......." she said softly.

Model A hastily returned to Grey's pocket, not wishing to incur Mehir's wrath. Grey, meanwhile, listened intently to Mehir (and eyed the Magic Arrow warily) as he explained just how serious what had happened was. The information gave him a healthy dose of perspective - sure, his issues were not minor by any measure, but at least he (hopefully) wasn't in danger of being exiled or committing suicide for his failures.
"...I wish I knew what to say," said Grey. "I'm sorry for what happened, and if there's anything I can do to help, tell me. I pledged myself to help others... and that includes you. I think you need help more than me."
As he finished speaking, he spared a quick glance at Rey to see if he had mellowed out any - as much as he hated to admit it, his curiousity was getting the better of him.

Rey nodded a bit, and crouched next to her, speaking in a low voice.
"Well, I'm not going to take them from you. I don't want them here, I don't want them distracting us, but you seem sure you can take care of them, and I think it would be good for you to have a distraction. But let's make one thing very clear." He glanced towards her, flicking his visor up so she saw his glowing eyes. "If those things get the in the way, if they cause a distraction at the wrong moment or cause us trouble... I will be the one who 'takes care of them'. You get what I'm saying?"
He didn't wait for her to respond, rising back to his feet and turning to walk away, eyes narrowed as he headed back towards the rest of the group.

Subaru overheard Rey and was puzzled. Okay, a bit more than puzzled. She was outright flabbergasted.
Who the hell had replaced Rey with...well...whatever this dude in armor was? She handed off the creatures to Fluttershy and rolled up in front of Rey.
“Uh, excuse me? Exactly who replaced Rey Mysterio with a black knight?”

Dodgers suddenly woke up, screaming, and jumped towards the Tick, clinging himself to him:

Rey turned his gaze on her, eyes still bright red. "What business of your's is it? I'm telling her the truth. I'm not gonna let us miss a chance or lose something that might help us get out of here just to spare some nasty little animals. If she thinks she can take care of them, I'll give her a chance. ONE chance."
He glanced towards Dodgers, scowling even more deeply. "I need to have a talk with a duck, apparently."

Snake Eyes stood there, unmoving.
Subaru crossed her arms over her chest and looked Rey right in the eye,
“And exactly what gives you the right to decide that?” She said in a rather flat tone.

"Thanks, Grey," said Mehir. He opened his mouth to say another thing, throwing a glance toward Rey and the rest absentmindedly. His mouth snapped shut as he got up and looked again.
His palm hit his forehead with a resounding smack.
"More fighting? Over a stupid topic, no doubt," he said. While he was no longer angry, it was obvious that he wasn't in the mood for tomfoolery.
Crossing his arms, he went to the other group.
"You," he told Snake Eyes, "get your sword away from Rey's neck. Now."
He turned his head to regard Subaru.
"Since you seem the most stable person here... What happened?" he asked.

Rey bit his lip a moment, seemingly biting back harsh words, before glancing at Snake Eyes. "YOU are really starting to piss me off. I don't appreciate you being all up in my space all the time. I don't like you, I don't want you around me, and I don't like being threatened."
Having said his piece there, he looked back at Subaru. "And why shouldn't I be the one to say it? I've done this longer than any of you have. Remember that little "training bot" of your's, that nearly killed us all? Yeah, we don't want any more of that, remember? So if those little bugs seem like they're going to be dangerous to us, I'm gonna fucking KILL them and not give it another thought." He stepped back from the beam sabre, moving to try and walk around both of them as well as Mehir. "Now get out of my fucking way, someone needs to keep a look out and it doesn't look like I can trust you people to do it."

Rey grunted when he was grabbed, being practically jerked off his feet because of the speed he'd been trying to leave with, and he grabbed at his head with his free hand, wincing a moment as though in pain. After just a second, he looked at Snake Eyes, and his own eyes were no longer glowing, and he looked to be more confused than anything else.
"Um...what are you doing?"

Mehir closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths. Obviously, he was trying very hard not to snap and just start firing Magic Arrows at everyone present.

“Rey... oh how the hell do I tell you this...you have multiple personality disorder.” She let her arm drop,
“I'm fine by the way. But you're not.” She looked up at the sky then back down at Rey,
“I don't know why I'm here. I got pulled from a really nice dinner with Teana and was dropped here.”

Rey raised an eyebrow at Subaru. "Ohhhkaaaaay. You know multiple personalities aren't real, right? But, uh, I guess I have a little moody lately." He winced a bit. "Probably the...stuff I've been..." He shrugged faintly. "Never mind. So I guess they just...decided to bring you back then. That's horrible...Jack's here too. God, I hope they don't try to get anyone else. We had a challenge in Eddie's world not long ago. I wish I could remember more of it, though everyone's trying to tell me I went whacko there."

Subaru sighed again.
“I hate to do this...Mach Caliber, playback.”
“Yes.” intoned her boots as her device went to work. Beside Subaru a sudden screen appeared it was likely only a nano-meter thick but it still displayed. Then like an old VCR it played back the last few seconds of Rey's red eyed tirade. Subaru paused it, letting the image rest on Rey glaring at Subaru with red glowing eyes.
“Rey, you've been transported to a world under alien attack, turning into a 12 year old girl with magic powers and you have trouble believing that multiple personality disorder is real?” Subaru said in a deadpan voice.
Mehir dropped the Biometal, his anger spent. He shivered, and took a trembling breath.

"This... this isn't a matter of politeness. This is a matter so serious men killed themselves, or were exiled to the desert, over lesser things."
Gently, he removed Chun-Li's hand from his shoulder and went to where he sat earlier, retrieving and sheathing the scimitar. He sat down, leaning on a nearby building. Sighing, he wiped his brow with his hand. He turned to Chun-Li and regarded her sadly.
"I know that, logically, there was nothing I could do," he said, his voice stronger than before. "Yet I am still ashamed... I was supposed to protect those men, to lead them to battle and to their homes safely again."
He lifted his hand, palm facing his face, and caused a Magic Arrow to coalesce around it.
"I am not a warrior," he said. "I am a scholar... I want to advance the magical arts, not kill; protect Al-kajima, its knowledge and beauty, not conquer lands far and wide."
