Again though its a lot healthier than most of the tropes on the site as well as there are 50 wicks for Glasses Girl. I do not see a reason to rename here. I would support a split though I still think they are quite different in the way that they are usually presented that's about it.

Main/Meganekko found in: 1815 articles, excluding discussions.

This title has brought 6,061 people to the wiki from non-search engine links since 20th FEB '09.

I don't think they are different, it's just BY FAR used more in anime. In the west glasses are mostly just to indicate you are smart or are a dork. There are rarer instances where it's more for moe purposes, though.

I think we should cut it "Glasses Girl" as a redirect though, because Meganneko isn't just a girl with glasses, in the west anyways. MOST girls with glasses are treated this way ("Cute Glasses Girl") in anime, but in the west, they aren't.

A couple of days ago, Discovery opened a YKTTW for Smart People Wear Glasses and plans to launch it really soon (as in, probably within the next couple of hours soon). Should I tell them to wait until the rest of the glasses threads are cleaned up, or just let it go since there hasn't been a lot of activity here? It might be easier to make that trope page from scratch than trying to rework Brainy Specs.

[up] Yes please. We need to clean everything else first before we have yet another trope thrown into the mix.

[up]I think it's worth noting that the Smart People Wear Glasses YKTTW is the supertrope that was discussed earlier in this thread.

It's not a supertrope though. It's a missing trope, but none of the other tropes fall under it. They're generally related sister tropes, but that one is for people that actually need to wear glasses so all the tropes where people don't need them automatically don't fall under it. And being socially awkward doesn't make a character smart so that trope doesn't fall under it either.

Is there even an actual Supertrope here? Wearing glasses isn't a trope, its how the fact that a character wears glasses factors into their characterization thats the trope. Multiple tropes.

What we need is an index, do we have a glasses index?

Yeah your right there people with glasses isn't a trope however anyone in media glasses it always means something or many things especially since the invention of contacts. (Even Hates Contacts should be a trope.)

We have Glasses Tropes. IMO it should be softsplit between Glasses Maneuvers and these tropes.

Frames of Reference.... oh wow this needs some work... It's a trope (was talking about it in the Nerd Glasses thread.) but man it really needs tons and tons of work.

Since that exists Nerd Glasses should probably focus on Opaque Nerdy Glasses.

My new avatar is stupidly appropriate....

The titles for Nerd Glasses and Geeky Glasses are completely indistinguishable as they stand, even though they don't have anything to do with each other. And, given the amount of glasses tropes, they're not that indicative.

Do we even have a trope for socially awkward characters who wear glasses?

And why do so many of these have a focus on anime?

Because anime/manga have a noticeable tendency to focus on these tropes more than their Western equivalents, I believe.

Geeky Glasses needs to be changed to Glasses Are Geeky Plot or Glasses Are Geeky Attitude and nerd glasses should be about Opaque Nerdy Glasses as it is a counterpart to Scary Shiny Glasses.

And every single part of an anime girl's body and outfit is important in Visual Characterization.

Glasses are no different Size and shape are important as Frames Of Reflection covers. Larger ones imply nerdy smaller ones are used more for coolness (to generalize it's a bit more complex than that). Keitaro in Love Hina gets a bit cooler over a Time Skip he goes from big square ones to ones a quarter of their size that don't completely cover his eyes.

If you can't see their eyes though the glasses that's important too. If it's a shiny reflection its usually a scary moment like they are about to do something evil or they got a devious idea, Yaoi Fangirl thinking bad thoughts, etc. sometimes done with a Glasses Push. This can vary from on all the time to a split second. Persona 4 used this for a split second when doing an all out attack 4 people at the same time, ones on a lot are probably Stoic Spectacles. What ever they are it's their time to (oh god) shine.

If they are eye obscuring Opaque it's an indication of nerdy, these are usually really large, and on all the time as they are probably coke bottle lenses, however it's not unheard of to have the opaque be at the whim of the author and change with the scene (Love Hina they change frame by frame depending on if Naru is suppose to be her Super Nerd look or a Meganekko). Opaque are occasionally used to show shock usually with Blue with Shock or Color Failure, and rarely with someone turned on.

Now Meganekko is a specific Moe element these characters are meant to be cute, a lot of the time they are used to show a bit of weakness or slight vulnerability maybe a Shrinking Violet, Shy Blue-Haired Girl Dojikko etc. Or just a tiny bit nerdy but not the super nerd type these are meant to be liked or lovable. Cosplay Otaku Girl. (even Tsundere and Kuudere are lovable and can be Moe) this applies to some males too Cute Shotaro Boy and the meek submissive Uke types mostly.

The page image on Moe right now was Haruhi's attempt to make the perfect Moe and take pictures for her website. Her preferred elements... Short girl Meido, Dojikko, with big breasts showning some cleavage, make her cry a bit, and add glasses and money in the bank.

What needs to be done here before the Smart People Wear Glasses YKTTW can be launched? I'd be interested in helping with the overall cleanup, but I'm unsure of what remains to be done.

We need to get Rename threads going for Nerd Glasses and Geeky Glasses going.

Once those are done launch that then cleanup misuse and point them to smart people.

Is there anything particularly difficult involved with creating the rename threads, or is it more just a matter of someone getting around to doing it?

Yeah, it seems that way. Can we get rename threads going? (I don't know how).

Go to Trope Repair Shop. Start a new thread. Put the trope up for rename in the tag box, title the thread ("rename" is common, but boring). List your reasoning, and provide a link over here if you think it's necessary.

Okay, I made the threads. Sorry if someone else wanted to do it, but it didn't seem like anybody was going to get around to it anytime soon. They are here and here, so be sure to stop by and give your input.

Since the renaming threads are well under way, would anyone object if I went ahead and launched Smart People Wear Glasses?

Smart People Wear Glasses is now launched! Any incorrect examples from the cleanup of the other tropes may be moved there (deeming they fit, of course). What's next on the CUTGT agenda?

This seems to have died. Anyway how about Meganekko? It's being used as any girl that wear glasses instead of the stereotype.

I honestly wouldn't mind switching the main name to Cute Glasses Girl.
