Too vague for a gun-specific trope.: One Handed Is Cool

Go To

The trope is about holding a gun with one hand, even if it means the other is occupied with a sword or another gun.

There's nothing in the title that indicates that this trope is about guns and ONLY guns.

This title has brought 89 people to the wiki from non-search engine links since 20th FEB '09.

New suggestion: Holding The Gun One Handed

Its more about firing a gun one handed, and it being cool. One Handed Is Cool is a pretty common trope in videogames, movies, T.V.... pretty much everywhere.

Oh, hang on, you're right. The title doesn't mention guns. Hmmm...

Also, I'm pretty sure that trope has a real life section which is godawful.

Firing One-Handed, or One Handed Shooting would work well.

Is there a reason that it has to be restricted to guns? Any normally two handed weapon looks like it would work.

Because its specifically about how firing a gun one handed is badass.

Actually, before I even clicked on the trope and found out it was about guns, I thought it might apply to any weapon as well. Kind of like the Barbarian from Diablo Two who could dual-wield two-handed swords.

Do we already have a trope for one handing BFS's and the like? Sword examples would go there. Firing a gun one handed because it's badass is definitely a trope in its own right.

No argument, which is why I think this trope's name should be changed to reflect that it's specifically about using firearms or other projectile weapons.

And it's closely related to Guns Akimbo and Sword Ang Gun (I think that's the trope, maybe, maybe not).

Is firing a weapon one handed a trope even if the gun is designed to be fired one handed?

Well, most weapons that you can hold one handed can be more accurate if you hold it one handed. And if it's got a stock pressed against your shoulder.

We could limit this to Hand Cannon I suppose.

Bump. The image picking thread is pretty much set on The Terminator holding a shotgun with one hand, but we should still settle on renaming the trope to reflect that it's a gun trope.

Does it have to be a gun trope? I could imagine wielding, say, a claymore in one hand would count. Or is that another trope?

No, the description for the trope as it is written clearly expresses GUNS only. It doesn't matter if your other hand is holding a sword, or another gun, but the trope is firing a gun with only one hand.

Since it's been brought up multiple times - there isn't any trope for wielding what should be a a two-handed sword in just one hand. Since we usually keep similar gun and sword tropes distinct (for example, BFS and BFG, Guns Akimbo and Dual Wielding), the proper move would be to take that to YKTTW and do the usual routine there. Though before anyone does that, I imagine that there should be a good ratio of sword size to wielder so as to make clear what would qualify.

Back to the question at hand, I like Firing One-Handed best, as I think that would be the easiest to use in the middle of a sentence.

Firing One-Handed is the easiest to put into a sentence. It's a simple verb phrase which is good for an action trope.

If we're making a trope for one-handing swords, the criterion should be one handed use of a two handed sword, anything from, say, a Claymore to a BFS.

I suggest One-Handed Zweihänder as a name.
