Word of God is that they deliberately made almost the entire series result from Walt's Fatal Flaw, rather than just having contrived setbacks keep him in the meth business: He could have taken Gretchen and Elliot's offer and never worried about money again, but his pride wouldn't let him.
Tragedy works better when it's due to flaws in the characters rather than just bad luck.
If anything, he has good luck. Mr. White, he's the devil.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. It's more that he has very good luck and very bad luck in about equal amounts, with very little middle ground.
"It takes an idiot to do cool things, that's why it's cool" - Haruhara HarukoI'm watching the marathon currently on AMC and quite frankly, even going back into Season 1, long before Walt actually goes past the Moral Event Horizon, you can see all the early signs of how spiteful of a person he is.
Not even just turning down Gretchen's offer, but one scene in particular had him destroying someone's car just because he was being rude and honking his horn at Walt while he was having a coughing fit.
EDIT: F'ck. The twins were badass in the Season 3 stinger.

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).That scene in Season 5 where Walt sits down with Brock always bugged me, felt I was missing something. There's the obvious implication, that Brock may slightly remember Walt from the time he got sick. But watching the marathon now, I noticed something when Saul talked with him.
Even Saul Goodman, the corrupt lawyer, managed to get a smile out of Brock. Jesse was still in a bad place when he first met Brock, and became a "big brother/surrogate parent" to him. Walt though? Whether Brock remembers him or not, Brock's never smiled at Walt, despite Walt going out of his way to be nice to him.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Brock could sense the evil.
Yeah, but he was being nice in that really creepy, insincere way that he has, where his facial expressions, body language, and voice harmonics are inconsistent with someone being motivated by simple goodwill.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
I know it's been said many times before, but Bryan Cranston is a really good actor.
I dunno, man, now when I saw him in Godzilla being nice I couldn't help but look at his face for traces of insincerity. It's like he exhausted his range of expressions playing the very multifaceted and dissembling Walter, and now it's very hard to tell which of the emotions he's pretending to have are emotions the character has instead of one's he's pretending to.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Just finished the series. Awesome show!
Although one thing bugged me about season 5. Why did Walt call the cops on himself just before leaving New Hampshire?
EDIT: My two cents on Jesse. I wouldn't think he'd be in danger with the cops. Even if they found the tape at the Aryans', the tape would also be evidence that he was trying to bring down Walt.
And then finding the tape seems like a big if. It was months since they'd watch the tape. I doubt they would keep such a piece of junk for so long. It's not like they had any desire to use it. They probably watched it once before trashing it (or writing over it).
Speaking of the Aryans, IRL, doesn't the Aryan brotherhood despise drug use? Why would they cook meth?

He crossed the Despair Event Horizon once his son called him out on being such a monster. Tired of running, he was ready to finally turn himself in. But Gretchen and Elliot saying he contributed essentially nothing to the company slammed his biggest Berserk Button and he changed his mind.
Like a lot of actual drug dealers, they despise drug use, not making money out of it. Basically they despise their clients.
Biggest mystery of the show; how aren't Jesse's teeth rotten to the core?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Jesse is actually pretty screwed actually.
The two cops that he was working out plea bargain with in secret are dead. Saul is off the grid. Heisenberg is dead and his wife has more or less been cleared of any connections. With such a high profile case, the police and the public are going to want someone to come to justice over everything that happened, and realistically, that leaves Jesse. Word of God even mentioned that his finger prints are everywhere.

Badger, Pete, and the fat one that dies, were in pretty good condition too despite also using meth. Maybe it's because they're social smokers, not junkie addicts? The only time Jessie really turned full junkie onscreen was when Jane died, and to a much lesser extent when he shot Gale.

I poked around on some online forums. Looks like meth mouth doesn't happen to everyone, and risk of it is reduced by good oral hygiene.
kissed by aliensDoes anyone have any thoughts on this? Are you hyped for it? Disappointed? Meh?
This could be good or bad. Needs a trailer for me to get excited. Who would we really want to follow up on that would justify a two-hour film? Does Jesse's life not suck enough as it is?

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Breaking Bad movie will act as sequel to series and follows Aaron Paul's Jesse Pinkman
Apparently, this film (working title of Greenbriar) will be a sequel starring Jesse Pinkman after his escape from the Neo-Nazi meth lab in the series finale.
I wonder how Walter White will fit into this, considering that he's dead. Flashbacks? Or perhaps he shows up as an imaginary friend talking to Jesse.
Among countless questions about the movie's plot and whether it will be good/bad/okay, I wonder whether this is getting a theatrical release? Or if it just airs as a TV film on the AMC channel. Hopefully, it will come out on Netflix soon so I can see it in high quality at home.
I am glad to hear it's not a reboot or taking place during the series.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Sequel to the seried focusing on Jessie?
My oh my!
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. To think they were going to kill his character off in Season 1.
One thing I really loved about this series was how thorough it was in describing characters, especially their flaws. This is among only few works where I can accept characters doing stupid shit because of their flaws, because honestly, in pretty much ALL series other than this, those contrived stupidities are due to bad writings.
Also, my favorite moment was probably how Gus died. Classy as hell.
