Alignment is meaningless.

What's important is whether you're considered a hero or not, and even that becomes irrelevant after the Grail gets corrupted, so yeah, all seven Swordsmen would qualify for Saber.

Except that guy that has an axe and hammer, 'cause, yanno, no sword.

Personally, I like to think that Sukuna is loosely comparable to Zeruel or possibly even Gohan's Oozaru transformation prior to Piccolo's training.

Those two are far far ahead of that canon fodder. tongue

@IANCE: Urgh, okay it's obvious I'm not conveying what I mean correctly (something many have comented on in my life), just that it's the aesop that always seemed to fall flat on it's face to me okay.

And at the end of the day the story did nothing to convey to me how important that phrase actually was.

Also, regarding harem; the very idea of the harem genre in the first place is something that doesn't and shouldn't make sense, so trying to apply logic to it isn't going to work in explaining certain characters can't have a harem unless they're complete jerkasses.

It's considered a legendary sword in universe, regardless of it not even being a sword... Not sure how the Grail would consider that.

If perverted Hyoudou Issei can have a harem, looser Keitaro Urashima can have a harem and ten year old Negi Springfield can have a harem, then using logic to define who should be able to get one is pointless.

It's like trying to use math to measure The Force.

I didn't mean to start an argument over if Naruto could romance the various girls of 3A, just that he might be able to convince Eva not to kill him, and later insert himself into the antics of Ala Alba since he has godlike charisma and Negi is nice to everyone.

Little as she'd like to admit it, killing Naruto would never be on Eva's agenda unless he showed up around his epilogue age. No women no kids.

I think he'd bond with the twins pretty quick. Fellow pranksters and wannabe ninja? Score.

[up][up]Midi-chlorians, dude. I'm pretty sure the Force can be mathed given that those are thing.

Analogies aside, whatever you think of the logic there are certain characters who have been shown in-story to attract love interests easily (I blame pheromones) and certain characters who have not. Issei, Keitaro, and Negi fall into the former category and Naruto falls into the latter.

Out of curiosity, do you consider Naruto's facility for punching away people's emotional problems and making enemies into friends likewise illogical?

Lancers don't even necessarily have to even have a Lance, they just need high agility and hit-and-run tactics
And yet they all have some form of polearm....Granted, I don't know of Enkidu having any particular affinity for spear-type weapons in the myth, but I don't recall Gilgamesh chucking swords at people, either. We're dealing with established characters here rather than myths, so there's less room to take liberties.

Also, the wiki informs me that Benkei's got C-rank Agility and Extra Vlad's down at E, and stat sheets strike me as harder to fuck up the information from than most sources.

I can confirm Extra!Vlad has E rank Agility. His Noble Phantasm isn't even a spear. It's a whole bunch of 'em.

@Archivist

The aesop falls flat on its face because you didn't actually read the manga.

Besides, that's still an argument for you being a hypocrite, because Naruto is the grand champion of betraying your series' aesops.

I also like how you continue to rail against ten years old Negi having a harem, as if Negi's age mattered at all. When it comes down to it, Naruto might be physically older, but we both know which of the two is more mature.

Forgot about them, but I don't think any of the ninja qualify for lancer regardless of them using a lance or having high agility. Just like how you'd be hard-pressed to find one who jumps out as a Rider.

Though it mainly seems to be Rule of Cool on who gets assigned to what class.

I could buy any of the Sannin as Rider, because ginormous summons. Deidara flies around on exploding constructs, so I'd accept him, too. If you're willing to stretch the definition of Riding as far as strange fake with its human-riding disease, Sasori and his puppet body could qualify.

Lancer I've got nothing. I've found it tends to be the hardest to find someone for in a given group.

Only because awesome spearmen are rare, apparently, even though spears are amazingly useful weapons.

Seriously, polearms! Not a single one is used in the entirety of Naruto! How the hell does that happen!?

I think it's more that swords are fuckhuge common and the other classes are more flexible. A Rider can use a horse or a ship or a chariot, an Archer can use a sling or a sword collection or in rare cases even a bow, a Lancer can use a lance or a spear. Not that there isn't a variety of different polearms, but, well, there's a variety of different bows and Archers don't stop there. An Axer or Hammer class would have the same kind of problem.

Although Extra and Apocrypha did both stretch "lance" to include "sharpened stakes I stick prisoners on," so it's not like it's completely inflexible.

Polearms are really flexible weapons if used right, particularly when you account for all the possible different variations on them.

I'm not talking about flexibility in the way they can be used, I'm talking about flexibility in the definition of "lance." See my edit about the Vlads. And as for the variations in design, Lancers can have bardiches and glaives and guisarme-glaives and so forth, but Archers can have composite shortbows and English longbows and repeating crossbows, and muskets and revolvers and cannons, and slings and javelins and thrown fucking swords of all things and any other ranged weapon you can think of. Riders can have any steed or vehicle. Casters can have any kind of magic and also includes authors. Berserkers can have any kind of madness.

Ah. Yeah, that's fairly limited in comparison to other classes.

Though, given that Gae Bolg's actual purpose is to be used as a Javelin, methinks Lancers can get away with Javelins too. That's something at least.

Anyway, spearmen are a lot more common in real life, in which the advantages of polearms actually factor in.

If we're talking Lancer, you might gt Kakashi's chidori to qualify. Sasuke's too, but he wouldn't be famous for it like Kakashi would

Whyever would it qualify? It's a jutsu. Not a spear.

True, but heroic spirits tend to be pretty vague about stuff like that. And since most everything's a jutsu in Naruto, that's a pretty poor argument in the first place. The main point is that it's a last ditch attack, like a lot of Noble Phantasms, it relies on speed and close range and is a one hit kill stabbing technique, all of which make it similar to a spear. It's also a core part of Kakashi's "legend."

I would similaraly qualify Tsunade and Sakura as Berserkers despite their strength being "just a jutsu."

Polearms aren't exactly a good mesh with ninja tactics, good for ordinary soldiers, but not for someone who'd have to put down their weapon every time they wanted to cast a spell, they aren't good for stealth either.

Though I could easily see one being used by an elite, if it had special properties like the mists seven swords, those things were pretty impractical but the swordsmen were killer.

Berserker's got nothing to do with strength, just as Lancer's got nothing to do with what you described. Incidentally, neither Sakura nor Tsunade qualify for Berserker.

You don't qualify for Lancer unless you got a spear or similar weapon. All the Lancers we've seen had spears, or could use spears as weapons.

I don't deny that all Lancer's have spears. And berserker has a ton to do with strength, but it admittedly does have a lot more to do with the rage, which both still qualify for, and the fact that berserker is usually intentionally summoned as sacrificing sanity for strength.

I mentioned Kakashi, despite the fact that I think he would be better as a Caster, because of the Naruto characters, he is one of the few who uses a technique that could qualify as spear-like. And since we have seen archers who barely use bows, an assassin who likes straightforward sword fights, and a caster who was explicitly mentioned to be terrible for his position, he could most definitely qualify as a lancer.

As far as I've ever heard, people qualify for Berserker on the basis of going insane (for a wide enough definition of the term to include Elizabeth Bathory and Mr. Hyde). Strength don't enter into it.

kingandcommoner Since: Aug, 2014
#9524: Jan 27th 2015 at 9:28:19 PM

That is the basis for creating a berserker, but the concept is that the heroic spirits, whatever they might have qualified for, can be summoned as berserker so long as they gave into their bloodlust at least once. Berserkers can be intentionally summoned if the summoner is willing to risk a lack of control and an insane partner in exchange for a power boost.

I admit I associate it more with strength than I probably should, but that's because I associate bloodlust with physical strength more than any other kind.

Either way, Sakura and Tsunade are both known for their short tempers, which in my head qualifies them for berserker, and their physical strength, which I associate with berserker more than any other servant.

Yup, the only qualification for being eligible for Berserker class is falling into madness or some kind battle rage once in your life. I don't think the Grail is as restrictive with classes as IANCE is suggesting, I mean no one really thought Shakespeare used magic (nor are there any legends reflecting that), but he ended up as a Caster. While all the Lancers so far have used lances, there is no need to think the class is super restrictive since another of the 'Knight' classes (Archer) is super loose in what counts as an appropriate weapon.
