It's so much fun :)

Although to be fair, Kanaat and Keo aren't quite in magical love. They were married and in love before they started the mindlink.

Question of economics: So they can create gems. Why did that result in laws against selling artificial gems, rather than just reducing the price?

[up]There might be: a)Political reasons for that b)The gems might look identical and have many similar traits but not have the exact same properties, I wouldn't be surprised if a magically created diamond wouldn't be able to be used for specific kinds of magic.

Back when gem-creating spells were invented, wizards were way less common. Groups which had wealth tied up in gems were able to create something of an economic panic about it, and by this point it just seems obvious to everyone that *of course* you aren't allowed to create gems and precious metals with a word and a wave of your hand. You can conjure stuff like food or wood or water and sell that, if you want, because that's considered intrinsically valuable as opposed to being valuable through scarcity. And of course if you just want to decorate your own mailbox or a gift for a friend with tourmalines, you can conjure them - just not sell them. So the price on natural gems *did* drop, but not by that much.

[up]How about giving them for free?

Also, does everyone knows wizardry in Elcenia???

Yes, you can give away magically created gems for free.

Not everyone knows wizardry. Rhysel happened to land in a school of it, and there's Narax, whose own school friends are also wizards. Most other people are not wizards, although many non-wizards know some simple wizard spells that are often useful, like the one to tell time, or basic household spells.

And I forgot to post this here earlier, but Chapter Six: Barashi

.. Wait, *What*? In the annals of extreme generosity, offering someone a large chunk of your lifespan really does kind of take the cake. In Samaras place I'd be horrified. Certainly, its not an offer you can accept and live with yourself after. Not as restitution for something this minor. O.o The request to not date her future widower is a bit petty, but not completely off the chart in the way the lifespan transfer is, and very belivable for someone who vent through what she did.

I am well aware of how extremely Samia and Rhysel are both behaving. Please do not assume that I endorse character actions as a general rule :3

That is not it -it is simply that this caused me to revise my reading of her character quite significantly. Id been thinking of her, and by extention, Kamai in general, as taking up roughly the social niche of firefighters and other first responders, but the implication is that they take public service one heck of a lot futher than that. Or that she is an outlier.

Apparently she feels very guilty for her infatuation with Samia's husband. Or she just feels sorry for Samia (she's had such a bad experience, been separated from Narax for years, she deserves a few extra years to be with him).

Thank you for doing the update for me!

My gammabeta wants to know why you think Narax is a dick.

He just servered his connection with Samia like that? I don't know what was going on in their minds, but damn, you just don't cut half the mind of a woman after she had been broken for ten years.

I want to know, in what place of the pack hierarchy a gammabeta is xP

EDIT: Also Rhysel is coming off as a bit of a Extreme Doormat, but her life in Barash doesn't sound that cool anyway.

Betas are named according to when they became betas. Since I don't usually know how useful betas are until they have been around for a bit, it's nothing resembling a status feature. Gammabeta is just the third person to sign up to beta.

It looks a lot like that is characteristic of her entire order to some extent - They are viewed with suspicion by the populance, and overcompensate in order to keep round two of the "magi v everybody" war from breaking out. Being in a society without those issues has to be screwing with her head to a fairly high degree.
