Dishonored:

Points from the "WTF is" that people who didn't watch it might care about re: length:

  • There is a whole lot of exploration content that you'll miss if you speed play through checkpoint to checkpoint which is supposedly what the one four hour play through did.
  • Levels and possibly the ending play very differently depending on whether you run and gun a lot or go for silent and/or nonlethal; at the end of the level you're rated on how much ruckus you made, and the more you make (if you cross a threshold), the more tension and difficulty there is in subsequent levels (more guards, more attentive guards, etc). So it sounds like there's potential multiple play-throughs.

(I personally haven't been following the game closely; I might consider it on sale but that's my answer to most games that aren't indie titles.)

It wasn't even four hours long. It was a four-hour long session that ended the game. He'd been playing it earlier.

Any word on what system is the best to play it on?

PC. Duh.

Nope. But probably PC. The devs have gone on and on about how they worked so hard to optimise it for the platform, and _dependable_ PC reviewers haven't said a thing about quality issues.

Qualitative comparisons aren't in yet, however. You're probably better off waiting.

I wish my PC could handle it.

Mine too, which if why I'll probably have to play it on Xbox. Fingers crossed that it handles more like Bioshock and less like a FPS.

Mullon, I'm guessing you've never played Thief.

Doing the interactive trailer... yeah, this was made by people who helped make Thief. Same ambient sound. Same incidental music. Same footstep sounds. Same whistling. Same conversation beats.

Fixed.

If I get it, I'll probably get it for PS3. I'm not sure whether my computer can handle it (I kind doubt it) and I with my bad connection, I can't use Steam.

I'm not feeling the sound — the sound effects are great when they happen, but really sparse.

And I can't find any direct link to any of the Thiefs bar Deadly Shadows. Who did you say worked on The Dark Project?

Also, you've already played the game. You've got a review copy! Why are you drawing conclusions from the interactive trailer when you've probably played the game? It's not like the embargo isn't over.

So yeah, this guy is pretty much the closest possible thing to a real-life Corvo.

Harvey Smith is the game's producer. Mostly known for Deus Ex, but was involved with Thief. Also, the game even used Thief's shadow mechanic originally, but it was dropped for more realism.

Do I have to play Thief?
Jonah Falcon
No. In Thief, combat usually means you fucked up royally.

[up][up] There is certainly no game you have to play, but if you like stealth games, I really recommend it. Of course, I say that as someone, whose favorite stealth games are the Thief ones.

Also, the game even used Thief's shadow mechanic originally, but it was dropped for more realism.
This is exactly what worries me.

That all you got?
That's why you just snuck up behind the guards and lamped them one with your blackjack. Either that or ran like hell when you got noticed.

Harvey Smith hasn't properly actually worked on any of the Thief games, though he's given a thank you in the credits of Deadly Shadows. He apparently has a lot of people assuming he has.

Mothership online...also adorable
Quite a lot things you can run through on the side (just got to my first actual mission), so yeah, if you try to complete a lot of things and not just kill everything it can take some good time...

And why the hell I didn' realize that the Jelly safe combination is the System Shock code?

It's Once per Episode for Looking Glass games. System Shock, Deus Ex, etc, etc.

Deus Ex isn't a Looking Glass game.
