DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A TROLL POST, although it obviously isn't quite serious. I hope I haven't offended anyone.

...

The Frank Miller who wrote All Star Batman And Robin... would have a field day with this story. But does he even know it exists? Has he seen the Gurren Lagann Three Hundred fanmade trailer?

But would he improve it, would he butcher it, or would just his (in)famous name being added to it have a positive impact at all?

He'd just mess with the backstory of all the female characters so that they are all whores

Oh no wait, there's already that hot springs episode which kind of takes care of that.

PERFECT

You mean those aren't Chris Claremont characters? (I'm sorry if I'm just being an ignorat).

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't notice those were the Nextwave protagonists.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A TROLL POST

No, but its a terrible idea.

Why in the world would you want to involve a major american comics writer into Manga translation? Why not just read his comics if you like his stories? I don't want to read "FRANK MILLER'S GURREN LAGANN", I want to read goddamn Gurren Lagann!

[up]While I don't necessarily want to read FRANK MILLER'S GURREN LAGANN. I do think it would be interesting if (competent) American writers like Bruce Timm, Greg Weisman, Joss Whedon, Paul Dini, etc wrote their own takes on Japanese properties, and vice-versa.

He's the GODDAMN BATMAN guy.

He's so incredibly not a good fit for Gurren Lagann.

Okay, what is wrong with the Goddamn Batman? I thought that was an awesome line. In fact, I adored that comic. I could hear "Nikopol" through most of it, and Batman Robin and Kamina/Simon had lots of parallels. and Batman's action scenes and sense of flirting were very Kamina-like (I loved the way he booted into that police car, and how he literally and figuratively screwed up with Black Canary, who's basically a slutty Yoko). If Viral could write comic books, that's what he'd write. Though perhaps Jim Lee's art has gotten mixed up with Miller's writing in my mind: O can't help but imagine how Lee would draw the Gunmen battles and the 'splosions. If only he could draw one instance of Giga Drill Breaker...

I saw Gurren Lagann and I dont seem to recall it being about "HUGE MUSCULAR MEN WITH HUGE FUCKING BICEPS FUCKING WHORES LEFT AND RIGHT FUCK YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!"

Nor do I remember it being about Whores Whores Whores Whores Whores Whores Whores! [lol]

Reading your first post you seem to have been watching Getter Robo Armageddon which TTGL took alot from I admit.

[up]The Lagann folk don't need to fuck with whores*

. Or anyone. Their personalities are so potent, so blazing, so expansive. they make you pregnant just with their words and the sight of their beauty alone. Otherwise, they are big and muscular/busty.They are Will To Power, Libido, Pure Undiluted Sex, untainted by actual physicality.

as an Anime fan, I don't have a problem with stories featuring whores: I am sick and tired of the inoffensive Innocent Fanservice Girl and of feeling like a perverted voyeur every time I get a panty shot. If they're gonna show a woman half-naked all the time, might as well justify it.

I was exaggerating. In the lines of the typical "Just looking at manly person/group X will get you impregnated". The second bit was mostly inspired by Star Driver, Freud, and Netzsche. Look up the articles for Libido and Will To Power. I haven't said anything that wasn't said before. Fictional creatures, Galatea-types, they have a sublime sensuality. Making them actually have sex detracts from it.

But, really, isn't "Shounen Testosterone Poisoning" a major premise of the series? The point being, can Miller understand the "shounen" part and reflect it properly.

Now that I think of it, he'd me much more fit to write the Spiral King's backstory. It's much less shonen. Much more grimdark. And it involves whores. Or at least concuines/puppets.

I can't read "fewer" miller comics. Anyay, I only read DKR, DKR 2, Batman Year One, ASBAR, and of course 300. Never read Sin City. Watched the movie, though. Loved it. Perhaps you haven't read enough. Perhaps you're reading them with the wrong perspective, and didn't "get" it.[[hottip:*:Girls never seem to get Scott Pilgrim, even the artsy hipster types, it gets depressing... and only some girls "get" Lagann... I blame Michael Cera. If it had been a hot DumbMuscle-type actor as Scott,...

[up][up]I'm watching Betterman: there's a little of that too, and I'm loving the horror elements, but it really is a kid's show...

[up] No, there was very little Testosterone Poisoning I thought (Unless you took the drill thing as something Freudian)

He wouldn't understand Shonen at all. Maybe some of the more darker Seinen, but Shonen's are directed, as the name implies, for children.

Frank Miller is not for children.

Also if you are looking for sexually loose women, dont look at Anime. Japan hates them.

Yes, I could see that. Yet they have such a developed sex industry... that place has issues and needs some serious Ubermensching.

Anyway, I'm not looking for them, but I wouldn't mind them. As I said, I'm tired of women being sold to me as objects to lust after. Them selling themselves for a change would be fresh air.

I wouldn't say Shounen are exactly for children. The name is an artifact at this point: the average readership of Shonen Jump is 17. Fist Ofthe North Star is shounen, and it's darker and more violent than anything Miller wrote.

Speaking of which, I should really download TTGL once I have the time...and space in my computer.

Oh not even. Lets not delude ourselves, Gao Gai Gar doesn't even have the same target demographic as Evangelion.

Eva is Eva, Gurren Lagann is Gurren Lagann, don't try to import special meanings to their existences that are nothing more than fanwank. Same for Gao Gai Gar.

Well, TV Tropes is wrong. And that line wasn't there when I made my reply anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I love Gao Gai Gar, but the idea that its some sort of pushback against Evangelion is just horrific fanwank and needs to die a horrible death.
