Common Eye Colors and Technicolor Eyes (New Crowner 11.6): Common Eye Colors get usage counts

51 Sal Fish Fin, Sat, 16th Jul '11 4:56:25 PM from on top of Your Mum Relationship Status: I get a feeling so complicated...
Trolling Swordsman
All of these tropes are, in a nutshell, "Usually, X-eyed characters act like Y." If it's common enough to be documented, it should. And even if it was coincidence that the character's personality "went with" their eye color, why wouldn't it count?

52 shimaspawn, Sat, 16th Jul '11 4:59:07 PM from Here and Now Relationship Status: In your bunk
This is true. Sometimes eye colour is just eyecolour. Sometimes it's just to match their hair. Sometimes they just need to be coloured something. I would have the main eye colour pages be disabig with no examples.

"Existential Despair" is an oxymoron.

I think we should have an index of tropes, and a parallel tropes when eyes are chosen for aesthetic reasons. The index would be stuff like Green-Eyed Redhead or Blue Eyed Blonde (eyes chosen to match on the color wheel or something) as opposed to Curtains Match The Windows (eyes and hair are the same color).

Dammit, where is that trope? Windows Match the Drapes. Drapes Match The Windows, Windows Match The Curtains, one of that set should be blue.

So split Eye Tropes into a subindex for colours.

Should we have Black Eyes pointing to the various other ways of doing black eyes, like the entire eye ball is black or the scelera (?) is black.
Probably. Black Eyes of Evil, Black Eyes of Crazy, Red Eyes, Take Warning...those are pretty much just what we're trying to do here, only they got it right straight out of the gate.
Well, somebody else launched Elemental Eye Colors before I was ready, but it seems adequate. Just Needs More Love.

I think moving things there when we split up the other pages will help a lot. Shall we pick one to start with? We can sandbox it and softsplit the examples there before taking the split tropes to YKTTW to finish fleshing out.

That... really isn't a good image.

It's a terrible image, but I didn't pick it. Why don't we start with Sandbox.Blue Eyes. Maybe if I start doing this other people will help.

Sorry for the double post, but I'd really like it if someone can look at my sorting on the Sandbox.Blue Eyes page. I'm currently just sorting out the easy ones, but I'm going to need help with some of these. There seem to be a large number of just "So and so has blue eyes."

Zzzzzzzzzz
looks good so far. And dump the "x has blue eyes" into a folder to be put on the discussion page for more information.

I'm just cutting the ones listing film stars. I figure that lusting after an actor isn't any trope. For now the rest are just staying in Unsorted.

I assume your not done sorting?

On Blue eyes maybe we should make a separate section for "Blue eyes = European or American stereotype" (Sometimes combined with Blonde hair but not 100% of the time) so stupidly common in anime its not even funny.

As well as making an "other section" for Drawn and Literary works I mean there is a reason why they are blue eyes and not some other color in one of those works.
71 shimaspawn, Mon, 1st Aug '11 9:20:02 PM from Here and Now Relationship Status: In your bunk
No, I'm not done sorting. Blue Eyes = European/American will have to be YKTTW separately as it's not currently something listed in the examples I have to sort. I could really use some help sorting things though.

There's not going to be an other section. We are narrowing this down to Tropes ONLY. If there is only one example of something, it's not a trope. It gets cut. These are all going to be Hard Split and there's going to be no Blue Eyes page to have an Other section on.

I think that's Phenotype Stereotype isn't it?
Cure Candy
It would be a part of that yeah (we really should divide that up by stereotype and connect the Japanese see British and American as blonde and blue eyed ) however just blue eyes examples exist although rare and usually Not Too Foreign.
74 shimaspawn, Tue, 2nd Aug '11 8:22:36 AM from Here and Now Relationship Status: In your bunk
But Not Too Foreign is the trope you're looking for. You'd have to start that from whole cloth. It's not part of this split. Can we please keep on topic?

Ok, I've sorted as much of Blue Eyes as I can on my own. I'm going to move what's on the sorted page to separate YKTTW pages to gather more examples then move on to the next colour.

Edit: Created all the YKTTW save for the ones I merged with Elemental Eye Colours and Glowing Blue Eyes. The latter I'm not sure if it should be merged with something else.

Alternative Titles: Eyes Of Gold
10th Nov '12 2:18:40 AM
Vote up names you like, vote down names you don't. Whether or not the title will actually be changed is determined with a different kind of crowner (the Single Proposition crowner). This one just collects and ranks alternative titles.
At issue:
Eyes Of Gold was voted to be renamed 12 to 0.
