Common Eye Colors and Technicolor Eyes (New Crowner 11.6): Common Eye Colors

Initial thoughts. All names tentative.

• Green Eyes =>
  • Magical Green Eyes (for when it's a character with innate magic)
  • Feline Green Eyes (for when it's associated with cats or someone with a feline motif)
  • Earthy Green Eyes (for the elemental association)
  • Airy Green Eyes (for the elemental association)
  • Natural Green Eyes (for the elemental association)
  • Tranquil Green Eyes (green is symbolic of tranquility, but I'm not sure if this is used as a trope)
• Hazel Eyes
  • Mercurial Hazel Eyes (for when the character is unpredictable)
  • Hazel Eyes Of Potential (for when the character has hidden potential)
  • Middle Ground Hazel Eyes (for when the character has traits from multiple eye colors, especially green and brown)
• Eyes of Gold
  • Supernatural Golden Eyes
  • Animalistic Golden Eyes (for those with an animal motif, werewolves, and kitsune)
  • Electric Golden Eyes (for the elemental association)
  • Golden Eyes Of Light (for the elemental association)

  • Sensual Brown Eyes (may be too much into YMMV territory)

  • Badass Violet Eyes (eh, another badass trope?)

  • Shadowed Violet Eyes (for the elemental association with darkness)
  • Violet Eyes Of Wisdom (purple is symbolic of wisdom, but not sure if it is used as a trope this way)
• Grey Eyes
  • Spiritual Grey Eyes
  • Grey Eyes Of The Seer (is this broad enough to trope? Or does it fall under the above?)
  • Grey Eyes Of The Mentor
  • Unapproachable Grey Eyes (for haughty, strong-willed characters)
  • Innocent Grey Eyes
  • Grey Eyes Of Beauty (for the dead trope)
  • Grey Eyes Of Marksmanship (for the sniper)
  • Steel Grey Eyes (for the elemental association with metal. Yay pun!)
  • Grey Eyes Of Mourning, Grey Eyes Of Repentance, Joyless Grey Eyes (grey has this symbolism, but not sure if used for eyes)

Do we need to split up Red Eyes, Take Warning? Seems descriptive and relatively narrow already.

The elemental associations are already covered by Elemental Eye Colors.

Seems to be missing some. I'll have to update it.

Do we have a split plan for Blue Eyes and Brown Eyes? These colours are most likely misused and in need of a split, given that they are normal eye colours. (as opposed to Green Eyes)

Blue Eyes has already been split into Innocent Blue Eyes, Creepy Blue Eyes, Occult Blue Eyes and Icy Blue Eyes. The wicks for Blue Eyes need to be deleted if they are Zero Conext Examples or moved to any of the split off tropes if they fit. As for Brown Eyes, it's probably going to be split into three tropes for normal, down to earth/trustworthy and sensual.

Green eyes aren't normal? Does that make me abnormal?

Brown Eyes is as good a place to start as any. I'll take Trustworthy/Dependable Brown Eyes.

AFAIK, true green eyes are uncommon enough that I wouldn't expect them to show up just because they can.

It looks like the split of Blue Eyes wasn't completed, either - It's still described as a trope and I still see examples on the page.

Were we waiting on the blue-green eyed tropes for that, or can it be done now?

EDIT: Dependable Brown Eyes draft. Went with dependable over trustworthy because dependable seems to encompass more of the traits associated with them, but feel free to weigh in on the name.

We can pull them to a sandbox so we have them for the blue-green eye tropes. EDIT: Done, and put the examples and blue-green description on Sandbox.Blue Eyes for safekeeping.

One of the winning crowner options says to faux redlink the disambig pages, but Eddie hasn't been honoring requests to faux redlink things lately. So we may not be able to do that.

I think I can get Feline Green Eyes and Animalistic Golden Eyes.

I'm having concerns Airy Green Eyes will end up redundant to Wind Is Green.

As Oreochan said, the elemental eye colors are lumped in Elemental Eye Colors, so we don't need them anyway.

Actually, Shimaspawn did try to make a YKTTW for blue-green eyes called Dreamy Blue-Green Eyes. That didn't go so well and was abandoned because it didn't get any examples in the YKTTW and wasn't symbolic, and thus was thought to not be trope.

Anyway, I can take Supernatural Gold Eyes, Ordinary Brown Eyes and Magical Green Eyes to the YKTTW whenever the chance arises.

Just pointing out that crowner consensus is not to split based on specific colors.

It says to split them on how the colors can be used. Are we not doing so?

Okaaaay, I do not have the extensive knowledge of eye colors in fiction apparently necessary to do this, since I've been told I need to do a survey of all characters who are dependable, and check their eye color - something I have no idea how to even start doing, assuming I had the time and inclination to do so. Apparently, eye color cannot be symbolic. Or something.

So I have no idea what to do now.

Calling bullshit on that claim, with Red Eyes, Take Warning as my counter-example.

Keyword is "apparently".

I believe that eye color can be symbolic, but have no real way to prove that to troactid and Dragon Quest Z's satisfaction.

They're not, since we don't know how to proceed.

Can't we just cut them, and if anyone wants to YKTTW relevant tropes, let them?

Given the number of inbounds, cutting them is going to take some strong arguments.

It would be nice if troactid would come by and explain what it is he thinks we should do, since he's the reason this is being held up.
