I admit I don't know much about hacking, but it seems that these guys are being dicks for no good reason. They wreak havoc and destruction on the internet, costing companies obscene ammounts of money, seemingly all for the For the Evulz, and people seem to applaud them for it. Am I missing something?

From what I've heard, they're moronic wannabe-hackers.

Some people applaud them for it. However, I see a lot more who decry them for it.

Lulzsec are like Anonymous without the redeeming qualities.

They may very well be done/split up already. See the other Lulzsec thread for information.

They were so despised that even other hackers were gunning for them.

Really they actually pissed of other hackers. That takes some effort.

No kidding. I wonder if they pissed of any particular groups?

Begs question if they stepped on the toes of the Anons possibly?

If they would more wisely choose targets, then I would applaud them.

But they haven't chosen wisely.

Based on what I've read, one of the people they pissed off was a pro-USA hacker called The Jester. Apparently, this is the same guy responsible for the DDoS attacks on some terrorist websites and Wikileaks.

Indeed, if they had stuck to corporation/government emails and kept customer info out of it I'd probably be less angry with them.

I'd rather they kept sticking it to big business and helping revolutionaries from the Arab Spring stay online. That would have been fine.

All I know is they've got the Australian government's internet filter running scared.

And that it's sad that I want them to hack the hell out of the filter because I have no confidence in the actual government coming to their senses.

Also, they might serve as a credible, 21st Century replacement for the IRA in a possible upcoming cyberpunk thriller novel I'm working on.

From what I've heard, they are like Anonymous but without constraints. Anonymous doesn't usualy target anyone in way that could be life threatening as far as I know, only causing a lot of bad publicity and economic damage.

Lulzsec are generally PlayfulHackers with agenda. It is a good thing, although releasing private information about innocent people was very low and that's why I don't support them. But their goals are good.

My dad thinks that their morally worse than people hacking for money. These guys do it For the Lulz, when has that ever been a decent motivation for criminal activity?
