So, if the trope is about "Some people's superpowers are much stronger than others", then why is it not named Winning The Superpower Lottery or Superpower Lottery Winner? The phrase "Superpower Lottery" sounds like "superpowers are given/distributed via a lottery(-based) system" rather than the aforementioned laconic definition.

Does it only cover the winners or does it make mention of crappy powers. Or was that a separate trope? I want to say Blessed with Suck.

Per the description and the usage (AFAIK, at least), it's only about who actually win the "superpower lottery".

EDIT: And it appears that there's yet another trope that suffers from the same problem: Superpower Russian Roulette. The description touts itself as essentially the Blessed with Suck version of Superpower Lottery, in spite of the term "russian roulette" not evoking that meaning.

Does this look like it should be taken to the TRS?

Wait... Has this just not been changed because, as Earnest says in this old, not even 1 page TRS:

There are good points about the name, it's just that it's been around for years and has permeated troper consciousness, and(impressively) has done so to such a degree that there isn't misuse. I know the grandfather clause no longer applies as a reason not to rename, but at this juncture we need a really good reason to justify a change of this magnitude.

The inability to agree on the name being confusing killed the 5-page TRS on this trope. It started with what's basically a long back-and-forth between shimaspawn and DrMcNinja, over whether the name was ambiguous or not, and the arguments that spread from that, apparently led to it being locked, as said by Shimaspawn:

"I'm going to lock this topic for a while until people can calm down.".

Anyone that needs examples, mine that TRS.

...

... Or do we already have a trope for random power allocation? *sigh*

... Do we have a necro policy? Sort of?

We have a necro policy which says "Don't necro a threads unless you've got something to add." Both of those earlier threads were locked because there was not a good case made for renaming. You have not added signal by necroing this one. . If you think you can make a solid case for changing the name, open a TRS thread, with a good, solid OP demonstrating misuse or confusion, by way of a wick check, as described on How to Do a Wick Check.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.
