Rhymes with "Protracted."

"Apocalypse" also wouldn't cover attempts to "merely" Take Over the World, which I'd imagine is considerably commoner a plot than it actually being in danger of ending.

Bump.

You can only make one crowner per thread, right? If not, we should get some potential names and make another one.

^ One crowner per thread at a time, so anyone can prepare a new crowner and holler for a mod to tag it in.

But it's still worth brainstorming a few names before we start the crowner.

That's a good amount of names, so I've made and called (to hook) this crowner!

I certainly hope you haven't called the crowner yet—it's bad form to say that an issue is settled when only your vote has been counted. wink

Anyway, crowner hooked. Let's get a new name for this one.
I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.

Lots of names based on Jeopardy! tongue
Special trousers. Very heroic.
Bump for votes.

The it-thingy
[up][up] ...you do realise that 'jeopardy' is a pre-existing word, right?

I'm adding Apocalyptic Climax and Climactic Apocalypse, since all the current suggestions seem rather wordier.
This holiday season don't forget to celebrate the true meaning of Halloween

I think this is ready to call, actually.

Calling the crowner.
We never go any where without our swords and boas.
So this needs a rename/transplant. Is the definition already broadened? Does it need index changes? Wick cleanup?

No.

Does it need index changes?

Yes.

Wick cleanup?

Probably - I haven't done an actual check, but a look at the related page suggests most of the wicks are for the videogame version.
I created the new page and quotes subpage. The old quotes page is a redirect for now. I also hollered for a discussion move.

The description still needs to be rewritten. Is anyone planning on making a YKTTW for Saving the World as a trope, or should that just become a redirect (once the discussion's moved)?

When moving wicks, any valid non-game examples should be cross-wicked so the page doesn't look videogame-only.

^No, Deboss started a sandbox at Saving the World. That one will replace the current article.

I've recovered the sandbox and plugged it into Saving the World. While I am going to take the wicks soon, someone ought to rewrite "Save the World" Climax to be less video game specific.

Did the wicks (with what little I could spot). Now, we need to...

I see the Awesomeness.
Whatever the story started out as, it winds up with a save the world plot. This is a common variant of The Heroes Journey as it gives a great deal of gravitas to the story. It could also be a result of constantly escalating threats. Ongoing series tend to use The World Is Always Ending.

Sorry, not feeling very wordy right now.

Ok, I've rewritten the description of "Save the World" Climax to be not about video games and removed bad examples. Given that as-is the page has very few examples and wicks, I've started a YKTTW to collect examples

Alternative Titles: Saving The World
15th Sep '12 2:48:51 PM
Vote up names you like, vote down names you don't. Whether or not the title will actually be changed is determined with a different kind of crowner (the Single Proposition crowner). This one just collects and ranks alternative titles.
At issue:
Saving The World is getting a Trope Transplant to a new name so that the current name can be used for plots about...saving the world. The current trope is for when a story that starts with a mundane conflict escalates to saving the world by the end of the story. What would be the best name for this trope?
