Nation States:

1 Milos Stefanovic, Sun, 12th Jun '11 12:44:02 PM from White City, Ruritania
Decemberist
Wasn't really sure where to post this, so I chose OTC because the "game" is something of a political simulator, and was interested to see what do other tropers' states look like.

Anyway, thanks to Wanderhome's advice in the Ideology thread, I started playing Nation States a few days ago. I tried to roleplay my ideal nation, so the world was introduced to The Free Land of Milostopia.

  • Category: Left-leaning College State (Based on the answers to certain issues asked at the creation, it started off as "Democratic Socialist", switched to "Scandinavian Liberal Paradise" after some law-changing, and then this)
  • Civil Rights: Superb
  • Economy: Developing
  • Political Freedoms: Good
  • Leading Causes of Death:
    • Old Age 63%
    • Heart Disease 19%
    • Murder 13%
    • Lost in Wilderness 3%
    • Acts of God 3%
  • Government Expenditure:
    • Administration 34%
    • Law & Order 29%
    • Education 20%
    • Defense 17%
  • Gross Domestic Product:
    • Private Sector 65%
    • Public Sector 35%

The Free Land of Milostopia is a tiny, socially progressive nation, notable for its absence of drug laws. Its hard-nosed population of 10 million enjoy extensive civil freedoms, particularly in social issues, while business tends to be more regulated.

The enormous government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Education, and Defence. The average income tax rate is 29%, but much higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Cheese Exports.

Milostopia's children are widely acknowledged as the most foul-mouthed in the region, the tenet of free speech is held dear, the alarmingly racist TV show 'Bigtopians Say the Darndest Things' is a hit, and college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys. Crime is moderate. Milostopia's national animal is the brown bear, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Milostopian Florin.

Of course, the situation is really prone to change, and what you read here can change even tommorow - my state is still new, with not yet completely defined policies.

So, any other tropers with their Egopolises here? What do they look like?

The sin of silence when they should protest makes cowards of men.

The Grand Duchy of Order and Reason is a fledgling, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its strong anti-business politics. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 5 million are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The large, corrupt, moralistic government concentrates mainly on Law & Order, although Commerce and Defence are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 29%, but much higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Cheese Exports.

Crime — especially youth-related — is relatively low, thanks to a well-funded police force. Order and Reason's national animal is the Hawk, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Bitcoin.

Hey, I'm not anti-business! I'm very much pro-business!

The Republic of Zygrev is a fledgling, socially progressive nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

The medium-sized government concentrates mainly on Social Welfare, although Education and Healthcare are secondary priorities. The average income tax rate is 21%. A substantial private sector is led by the Uranium Mining industry, followed by Information Technology and Door-to-door Insurance Sales.

Crime is moderate, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Zygrev's national animal is the Bull, and its currency is the Dollar.

The Republic of Depkho is a fledgling, socially progressive nation, renowned for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5 million are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, liberal, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas such as Law & Order and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 52%, and even higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Automobile Manufacturing.

Crime is totally unknown. Depkho's national animal is the unicorn, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the dollar.

I play it, but not seriously. Mhmhm-hmmm, let's see... Let us just say I strive to get the tax rate as 0%, spending on defense as big as I can (currently 55% of the expenses, or more like, "...has no detectable government spending. The chart below estimates the priorities..."), and as big as I can ratio of people dying by murder. I also strive for anarchy, but most of the time I'm left with some stupid Civil Rights Lovefests and so. I'm also in the top 1% in the world in Most Armed. cool

Aaand yeah, I too have a feeling that the possible types of governments, and their descriptions, appear to be made so that they favour left-wing politics.

Oh wow...throughout most of high school and a bit beyond, after Runescape but before here, NS was basically my life. It helped make me a writer and work through all sorts of things in high school by the ways that I fictionally reflected them through RPing. I was initially a member of a wonderful little region called Charis which was basically my first and for a while only experience with an internet forum. We merged with a slightly larger region called Aberdeen and formed Uroca (officially UROCA) which lasted a while longer, and even came back from dying once or twice. There was even a break at one point where I ran an NS club at school!

I had about seven or so nations, with my original one being Somabalbah* . It was far and away the most developed, and creating it taught me so much about world-building, even if the nation wasn't always so realistic.

This was the Charis forum, and you can still read all of it, though you have to fiddle with the display dates and stuff. Same for this, the final (out of at least two) Uroca forum. I am Somabalbah on both, and also Exploding Penguins, Sabinastan, Neo Bashkortostan, Sealand Reborn, West Hill Beach Club, and Califa (yes, the nation from Flora Segunda) wherever you see them.

Back when I did NS, it didn't have those percentages, and NS 2 was still basically new. I stopped because I was getting too busy and the region was dying and I couldn't imagine it without the people I'd always done it with. (Nyktos, a fairly well-known troper, is one of the people I know here who I knew there first.) I wouldn't go back now, I'm still too busy, and I prefer making up nations from scratch. I did so for a screenwriting class a year ago, for example, and I'd like to think the result is better than anything I ever did on NS.

I played this a while ago. Ima make a nation now.

The Republic of Las Troperia is a fledgling, environmentally stunning nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, cynical population of 5 million are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it devotes most of its attentions to Law & Order, with areas such as Social Welfare and Religion & Spirituality receiving almost no funds by comparison. The average income tax rate is 47%, but much higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Uranium Mining.

Crime — especially youth-related — is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Las Troperia's national animal is the Leech, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Blood-Coin.

Citizens pay a flat income tax of 11%. A healthy private sector is led by the Information Technology, Door-to-door Insurance Sales, and Basket Weaving industries.

Inoffensive Centrist Democracy

Civil Rights: Good

Economy: Good

Political Freedoms: Some

The Republic of The Ulagu is a fledgling, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working population of 6 million have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Education, Defence, and Law & Order. The average income tax rate is 18%. A large private sector is led by the Uranium Mining industry, followed by Gambling and Book Publishing.

Citizens select which government department gets their income tax shell dollars each year, the latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, voting is compulsory, and organ donation is compulsory. Crime is moderate, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. The Ulagu's national animal is the Great Yellowjacket, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the shell dollar.

—Not sure how to fix the police mortality issue; I suppose it's modified whenever I side with a particular party in a daily issue. The ones I've seen so far are a bit ill-worded, though I suppose that if you take a good look at a lot of things passed by various governments, it seems that they often aim for just that. [lol]
