What's going on in this picture? I see a lot of smoke and a capsizing ship. Nothing in this picture inherently suggests the trope.

This is still a signature.

[up] It's a scene from the aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor; the trope name comes from the movie Tora Tora Tora, where Japan's most senior admiral says that attacking America would be like awakening a sleeping dragon. It's not a very good pic, but I have no idea what we'd replace it with...not even sure if we can pic this.

Well, at any rate the pic isn't very good...not sure how we'd actually go about showing this.

[up] I'd be fine with that.

The trope is about a powerful, but neutral force being drawn into a conflict, to the disadvantage of the person who did this.

Yes, I doubt we'll find a good picture for that.

I would vote unpicturable as well, and I know full well what the image is from; without the context, though, it in no way illustrates the trope.

Not nearly a good enough singer for the Choir Invisible, and the Basement Room With A Synth Invisible is much less prestigious.

Motion to pull image.

Image is not visibly distinguishable from any other picture of a burning ship.

Fight smart, not fair.

Thirding the pull.

Sigh. You people are too young.

Saying about that picture, "It's just a burning ship", is the same as someone seeing the photo of The Twin Towers on fire and saying, "It's just a burning building".

I would hope that having the photo there, with perhaps a caption explaining it for those too young, "USS Arizona burning in Pearl Harbor after the Japanese attack".

Sigh. I know I'm going to be outvoted on this.

"Dude, that's just a burning building!"

[up][up] I say it's just a burning ship because it is just a burning ship. Yes it has historic context, but only if you where around to remember that was the pearl harbor shot. To people who where not around from then it is just a burning ship. It does not bring forward the concept that this was an act that entered the USA into a war. Just like when I show off a pic two generations from now a pic of 9/11 they won't understand that either.

The point of the pic is to show the trope. Can you give me a reason why that pic shows that an enemy has enraged a powerful party that has remained neutral up to that point?

Please.

Then i'd know just as much and the picture wouldn't be any better.
