This thread has been launched in an effort to keep spoilers out of the main Haruhi thread as the novels have not yet been translated. Still, even as a spoiler thread, try to remember the tags where appropriate.

Some people are reading them in other languages (they've already been released in Korean, etc). Others are just unashamedly reading spoilers without the original context.

It has been almost a month. So, anyone read fan translation?

Her surprise is that she's reproducing without waiting for him.

And when she's done eating for two all on her own, she tosses her SO onto her bed, not at that moment in time of course, but at a carefully chosen day almost a month in the future.

Pity the rest of the crew shows up to drag him out of her bed, If You Know What I Mean.

The big unresolved thread is the time-war / end of the world in the future that the time travelers were babbling on about. Big Mikuru offered no answers to how the end of the world would be prevented, so Haruhi will finally have one good deed on her record in novel 12.

I just read the two new volumes. And I've gotta say, for the first one I was kind of not sure what to think of it. I felt like not a lot was happening, but at the same time, there was a lot of tension being built up. It was a bit hard to get through, to be honest.

Then I read volume two, and by the end, so much Fridge Brilliance!

I'd have to re-read it to catch it all (and probably re-reading the first three chapters, which I haven't read in a very long time, would help too), but I like how all the pieces fit together. The reason Sasaki started talking about passing on her genes when she visited Kyon was because she was dwelling on the confession she'd received earlier, for instance.

The big reveal about Yasumi was probably my favorite, though. It all fits together so well, is what really gets me. Haruhi and Yasumi were so simpatico right off the bat because they were the same person. Yasumi wanted her given name to be written in katakana because Haruhi's given name is written in katakana. Et cetera. Although I wonder if this means that Haruhi is now unconsciously aware of the Mikuru folder?

I also liked the surprising bits of character development we got for a lot of the characters. I thought the arcs of the anti-SOS Brigade were really interesting, and the tidbits we got about Taniguchi and Kunikida were also enlightening.

Oh, also, is it just me, but did the description Kyon gave of the redesigned website make anyone else imagine an old, tacky Geocities page? [lol]

I WAT'd at Kyon telling Haruhi he had forgotten a porn magazine.

Oh, yeah, that was kind of funny. You really couldn't think of a better excuse, Kyon? Porn? That's the best you can come up with?!

Also, the only person he thought worth apologizing to was Asahina.

And yes, I thought of Geocities too.

There are certain scenes in this that I really want to see animated. Like, some of the Haruhi stories work in text format, but this one has some big flashy dramatic action scenes, which would be so good in animation.

So how do you work this in animation?

Run entire through alpha until the meeting then start over and work entirely through beta?

If so that sounds a lot more like TV episodes than a big movie.

Um... switch back and forth between them every day or so. Exactly like the books did. Why would that be different?

So every other episode is from a single timeline? Then just release the episodes out of order as is usual for this series...

They haven't mixed the episodes up since the first season, and the later stories are much more chronological than early books, even in the sidestories. Airing them as alternating episodes makes some sense, but I'm pretty sure they're not timed that evenly. I mean, isn't there a time where the alpha version is just a single paragraph saying that nothing important happened? While they're free to use their creativity, the straightforward way to do it is simply to go through it in the same order the novel does and change sides whenever the story requires them to. Accompanied by an on-screen indication of either alpha or beta.

Honestly, it doesn't seem very complicated or interesting to me. I think you're over-thinking it. There's absolutely nothing in this novel that wouldn't easily work when animated. In some ways it's easier to animate than previous novels have been, in that it's somewhat more action/dialog oriented than before, with less internal narration or conflict.

So, I see Haruhi made herself a Horcrux.

The only things I don't understand is what memories the people who didn't merge with their duplicates would have (since it was clearly stated that the world outside the key characters was largely unaffected by the differences between α and β). Obviously Haruhi has a combination of both designed to keep her in the dark, but what does say, Taniguchi remember?

And did Haruhi just disappear from the Celestial's hand?

And possibly the most confusing bit is that Yasumi still may or may not be a slider, but then Fujiwara and Asahina from the future might also both be Sliders.

Most curiouser of all Kyon was not immediately yelled at for entering Haruhi's room late at night (thus subverting Accidental Pervert pretty hard a little bit).

Haruhi is, in my opinion, a bit of a Covert Pervert. That plus her secret love of Kyon means that her attitude of receiving a pleasant surprise makes more sense than a Megaton Punch. (Note that she only ever gets on Kyon's case about being a pervert around Asahina.)

[up] That's true, and in actual fact, on reflection it was Haruhi who put him there.

That's one of the things I like about books 10 and 11; the more you think about it, the more the problems disappear (It might be mostly because of the Reality Warper aspect, but it's still well worked into the plot).

Also, I like how Koizumi's diagrams about the future actually seem like speculation which probably doesn't tell the whole story.

And it's great how Kron finally came to the realization that he is happier now with his close circle of friends then he ever was as a cool aloof loner.

... Don't worry, my gushing has just about finished I think.

So Kyon picked the "yare yare" up from Sasaki!

Are Kunikida and Taniguchi shipping in different directions?

Were they ordered to report to their middle schools?

Just read it. Toward the end of the epilogue - right near the end of page 126, to be exact - What was meant when Tsuruya said "Yo! Kyorosuke!"? As I was reading it I had thought it was a surprise appearance of Kyon's real name, but after looking it up it turns out that it's not actually a name in the first place, so that can't be it. I think. :/

EDIT: Oh, and I just wanted to point out for little reason in particular that I spotted three specific typos, although I don't remember them anymore.

I think it's just another one of Tsuruya's silly nicknames, like "Haru-nyan" and "Nagatocchi".

I'm trying to figure out whether or not Koizumi was telling outright lies to Kyon this whole time (mostly regarding his organization) based on what the other time traveler said.

I mean, it makes sense, and in any case, Koizumi's statement about the casualness of rank seems to contradict what he said in Melancholy about being low-ranked.
