The show is going to live or die off the quality of the live action segments, that's for sure. From what was seen in the trailer it didn't seem too bad and the set design for the Supercomputer was impressive, but the acting and action segments will dictate how well it all turns out.

Ugh, why is this live action again? Was the 2d animation too expensive or something?

To be honest, I would have liked original show better if the whole thing was in "2d".

I love drawn(or at least animation that looks like its drawn :P) animation ;-;

Are we sure M Night didn't work on this, cause I'm getting serious Last Airbender vibes. The live action stuff looks like it was filmed in a garage, and the dub voice actors are atrocious.

[up]I've heard that the dub in the trailer's just a scratch track, basically to sell it to English-speaking distributors.

I have to admit, the CGI Lyoko bits look good. Man, TV-CGI animation has really improved in the last few years! And I like the designs of the new XANA-beasts, especially the weird giants. The live action is definitely a weird touch, but the effects don't look too bad. Certainly better than the current live-action-jumping-into-a-computer show on CN, anyway. But yeah, I do hope that's just a scratch dub, because awwwwkwaaaard.

[up]x2

I'd rather the English dub just take the CGI bits while replacing the live action bits with animation.

[up]If they had to (ABSOLUTELY HAD TO) replace the live-action footage, it'd be with English-speaking actors.

Of course I just came to the realization that it will make the frequent underwear shots and shower scenes a LOT more awkward and uncomfortable.

Necro: Good news is, there is an English dub available.

Bad news is, there's only one episode available on my on-demand service.

I recently came across this, and it seems pretty good (or at least it's not unfavorable in comparison to the original). Imagine my surprise when I found out it's actually came out like three years ago, and it's just been that nobody's talking about it.

Is it because it never got a full dub?

Tch, I'm behind. I remember this being on, and hating every moment of it until a friend told me it was actually a French animated series or something. He showed me the full intro from the French version that they cut down on the CN version.

Well, time to search Google Images for pictures, look at one, then come back here to complain about how they changed the art style.

EDIT: Live-action mixed with CGI. That's... interesting. I wonder if they kept the old actors. Same characters.

IIRC this show was sort of a blend of Digimon and Animorphs. I might watch this soon.

I don't think so. The first show started over a decade ago, and the characters are supposed to be middle/high schoolers. Dawson Casting is already being stretched pretty far in this series, and the actors still look too young to have been the same ones back then.

I totally forgot about this show, and I was a fan of the original Code Lyoko. Anybody watched it enough to tell me if it was any good?

[up][up] I hear it got a lot of They Changed It, Now It Sucks! from some fans (particularly people irritated by the change to live action), but having watched the whole thing I'd say it's not much worse or better than the original show.

As a basic overview, it's the same premise - X.A.N.A. attacks, heroes react, CGI cyberspace battles. The show is somewhat less episodic with more of an arc, and a bit more character focus per episode. This time X.A.N.A. wants information he stored in the heroes before his last defeat, and there's a human villain in addition to X.A.N.A. now, but they appear to have been banking on fleshing him out in a season 2 that never happened. There's also a female Sixth Ranger who starts off as a friend (sort of) but gets herself kicked off the team, and there also seems to be a plan there that never materialized.

There are things I prefer about it, and things I don't. The dialogue and characterization is way better (as long as you don't mind stuff like Aelita being more of a dick now and Jeremie being more of an "unflappable leader" type), imo. The CGI's never looked better. On the other hand, X.A.N.A.'s plan is always exactly the same (he can't do anything else until he succeeds), and the show struggles to work around that. The human villain is barely explained at all. Failure Is the Only Option is everywhere, to Diabolus ex Machina levels, though the original series was like that too. The actors are varied - Aelita's isn't all that great (her animated self shows way more emotion and range. Live action Aelita never does much but stare sternly at people), Odd and Jeremie's actors rock, and everyone else is kind of in between.
