So I was an idiot because I didn't think to shoot out the light.
Yup.
Damn.
I didn't either, for the record.
Also. Should I shell out 8 USD for Portable Ops, or shut my mouth and pick up Peace Walker again?
Eight bucks? There's really no reason not to. Even if the game isn't great, it's only eight bucks.
Didn't realize the game was that old, or that PSP games were that cheap.
Portable Ops is basically "prototype Peace Walker", but I think the unique characters were more interesting, and you get to chat with Para-Medic and ZERO again. But Gene is not the series' proudest villain by any stretch of the imagination...
Just about everything covered in Portable Ops storyline was explained in Peace Walker anyway. Big Boss has to take down the "new" FOX unit, just like Solid took down the "new" FOXHOUND unit. Outer Haven, or rather, MSF gets started there, and you find out how.

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).So like, is there a way to choke people in MGS 2? B Ecause I can't figure out how to do it. Or is it a thing you get to do later on in the game?
Hold the weapon button near an enemy while unarmed and you will put him in a choke hold.
You can choke by pressing the weapon button repeatedly while holding an enemy.

Be careful not to break him.
Oh really when?Just a heads up, hold weapon the button while standing still.
If you press the button while pressing a direction, you throw the guard into the ground.
The MGS games are some of the few PS 2 games to make use of the pressure-sensitivity of the face buttons- Gently press Square to hold an enemy down, but press too hard and you'll start choking him.
I sure said that!@ FOFD
Wasn't the whole point that the Patriots were in control of Rat PT 1, and that Meryl was being led by the nose?
Are you referring to me or Truth Hurts 22?
You.
I don't think I understand your question. The Japanese version translates to "this" for the Patriots, and "that" for the Philosophers. But presumably, in the Japanese script, Drebin still reveals that "this" is an anagram of "RAT PT 1". The big reveal is that Meryl's group was being led by the Patriots, as was Drebin,
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).In regards to that, my bad, sorry. Coming from the Japanese dub, Otacon says "Aikoku-sha" when Drebin reveals what "Rat PT 01" really means. Still a problem given the fact it still an anagram for "patriot".
Another thing about the differences between Japanese scripts and English scripts, which is canon was to what building did Jack and Rose argue over: Twin Towers over Empire State Building in the Japanese dub (a nod to 1970s King Kong at that), or Chrysler Building over Empire State Building in the English dub?
Depends on what the argument was.
It's just Translation Convention.
Let's put it this way, the Patriots are american based, why would their name be "aikokusha-tachi"? It's just called that in the japanese version so the japanese people have an easier to understand name.
It's just like how everyone is mostly speaking Russian in MGS 3 but we hear english, at least most of the main cast is american, it's even more pronounced in japanese since there is no reason the Main character and the support group would speak anything other than english.
And the towers thing, maybe they redubbed that line because of 9/11, they edited the hell of the game because of that, maybe that was another thing.
I understand omitting the mention of the Twin Towers in the English dub to avoid 9/11, but which is canon: Confusing the Twin Towers with Empire State Building or confusing Chrysler Building with the Empire State Building?
Getting away from translation issues for now, can a clone reproduce like a normal human being if his reproductive system wasn't tampered with to prevent making copycats [explaining why (Solid) Snake, Liquid, and Solidus] can't reproduce or being cloned from a guy whose reproductive system got fragged due to radiation (which should have eliminated the need for tampering with the reproductive systems of the aforementioned clones)]?

Why does it matter? "Canon" is really only important insofar as the events might be referenced again, and even then only if it's in a way where making the same change isn't an option.
And I believe clones would be able to reproduce normally, assuming no extenuating circumstances. I'm not a biologist, though.

But if they do reference it again, which script will be opted for: Japanese or English?

Thanks, and relating to that, if the Genome Soldiers are infused with Big Boss' DNA, would that mean they can't reproduce either?

I don't know. Again, it only really matters if they can't use the same translation for whatever reason. Probably English, seeing as the rest of the series builds off the localization of Metal Gear Solid, instead of the original.
And that shouldn't make a difference. Granted, I have no idea how "infusing someone's DNA" into another person actually works, or what it's supposed to accomplish, but the mutated DNA shouldn't affect the preexisting genetic code.
And MGS4 stuff doesn't need to be spoiler tagged. The game is six years old. The only thing that really needs spoilers here is Ground Zeroes, and that's by my own personal request.
I imagine that the English script is what would normally be used for this particular franchise.
Here's a fun little trivia:
The Virtuous Mission took place on Kojima's first birthday.
Happy Birthday Kojima!

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot
