Hoooo boy...
From what I hear, he made some impulsive tweets that question immigration, feminism, and social calculations, something that's reminiscent of an alt-right mindset. There's a bit of it surfacing during a Game Grumps episode or two. When people started to discover these, he made a video making an explanation on why he did it. It was more or less an incomplete apology/explanation and a number of fans weren't convinced.
Don't forget the part where he had a livestreamed debate with a streamer named Destiny in between all those tweets and that "apology" video that really brought all of the above into the forefront and fanned the flames of controversy even more.
He also talked with Sargon of Akkad at a few points whom is a known alt-righter.

This is a moderator request to get back on topic. The derails need to stop, now.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI imagine JonTron doing more random videos because typical video game videos have already been done by many others. Movies too now.
I think we should just lock this in general, it's to late
-sigh- The thread's fine... Relatively. It's not "too late", whatever that means (it was civil for a while and the point where it blew up again is obvious).
Regardless of how anyone feels about it, as a content creator, Jon's inexorably linked to his actions, which will follow him for quite possibly forever, as long as he and his content remains popular. For some folks, they couldn't care less about what happened, and for others, this is a huge deal as it affects their ability to gain any sort of entertainment value out of him.
However, we, in this particular thread, can't keep talking about it, at least not for the moment. This thread already reacted to it back when it happened; if anyone wants to see that, they just need to go back to the posts that popped up around the time of the controversy. Most of the discussion since has just been people reiterating and reaffirming their stances and the conversation stalls as people yell at each other over a very sensitive topic that provokes a lot of strong emotions. If anything needs to happen to this thread, it's that that topic needs to become banned here, and that includes making snarky remarks about it that will just stir up everyone again.
Personally, I do feel that a serious conversation needs to occur whenever this happens, especially in the grand scope of content creators, the media overall, and racial/sexist issues, but not here. This is an entertainment thread and obviously not everyone here cares to talk or think about what a particular entertainer does "off-camera", even in light of certain controversies that may alienate others from that same entertainer.
TV Tropes has an OTC forum for discussing news and sensitive subjects, among other things. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) the most relevant thread there in regards to this topic is the Race thread, and I think anyone interested should look into that thread.note
Sorry about that. I know I rambled on but I didn't feel comfortable just telling people to stop talking here without letting anyone know about other possible, more relevant places to discuss these things around here.
I recently saw Jon's latest videos, and while they were entertaining, I can't say I'm overly... fond of it? I never did watch his more... experimental content like the Sonic video or the Final Fantasy XIII one, so I don't think I was prepared for what I witnessed.
I dunno, I feel like I need to see more to gauge him now. Even if he's still using the kind of comedy style I'm used to seeing from him, I can't say it works for these last couple of vids. That said, I found the Flex Tape one funnier than the Turducken one, probably because the latter video felt a little too "improv" for me.
The Turducken video kind of reminds me of Cow Chop's stuff, only with more studio polish, which is a good thing in my opinion. Cow Chop's improv can be hit-and-miss because of its spontaneous one-take nature, while Jon seems to be trying to find the balance between the two approaches. If anything, it's the staged ending that feels out of place in the Turducken video. I agree that the Flex Tape one is better in terms of jokes, but I'm fine with all kinds of experimentation. It's always good to see a familiar funny YouTube boy expand into new territories. Hey, maybe more improv means videos are gonna come out a little more often, hope dies last.

Nonsense is better than no sense at all.Seconded. If people want to talk about Youtubers and scandals related to them, OTC seems the most appropriate place for that.
Yeah, the Turducken one was probably going for a Julia Childs cooking show sort of thing with the improv (or scripted "improv"). Personally, I found the Flex Tape one funnier, but that may have been because I was a bit nauseated by the tur- and the -duck- and the -en. Plus the ending where we don't see an actual turducken having been cooked with the wonders of movie magic. Disappointing.
I think it may have been more of a reference to how it's done on cooking shows. I kind of hope he stays away from cooking show parodies, but that's only because I got nauseated a bit watching that turducken get made (I laughed, I slapped my thigh, I threw up a little in my mouth).
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyJonny put out a new video about five days ago. This time it's about strange fitness videos. He also has a sponsor for this one, Swagbucks, which I'm only pointing out because I think his previous videos didn't include any sponsors.
It reminds more of his usual works compared to the other ones, so I enjoyed it for the most part (and the ending made me go back and listen to Jet Set Radio music ). Though I'm starting to think his "new direction" isn't working too well (at least for me); his subject matter so far seems to be any weird thing he can find and then applying his brand of comedy to it, which I think worked better when it was about games and movies, or anything else he seemed particularly passionate about. As is, it feels like he's more or less selling himself on his comedic appeal and that's it.

Dude's career has resulted in him making profits from making reaction gifs and webm's for the internet. There is something about Jonno's look voice and performance that makes him really funny without being obnoxious.
Also that swagbucks thing is a scam
He's probably one of two Youtubers I've seen where I can legitimately re-watch his content and still find it funny after 7 viewings. I honestly think he puts everything into his performances, or at least that's my impression.
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyWith Virtual Reality technology making a comeback, Jon reminisces about that '90s Saban series, VR Troopers:
Dat Zeerust, Narm, and everything else in that video...

"Learn as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow."Seriously, back away from the Camera a bit.
Has Jon acknowledged the controversy at all since that "apology" video? I ask because he used to be my favorite YouTuber. I found him legitimately funny and talented, but I don't want to give him any more clicks unless he's recanted his racist views.

Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?In all honesty, based purely on what little I know, he has shaped up. He at least admitted that the statistics that gave him those opinions were false, and he's backed the hell away from discussing politics regularly considering how hard it bit him in the ass. Recently (within the last, say, 3 or 4 months), he's indicated a few more sane opinions on political and social matters, so I'd say he got bit so hard he jumped out of whatever bubble he was in. But that's just my opinion, you don't have to take my word for it.
I'm in your fanfiction, correcting your spelling.Did he really? Was this on Twitter or in one of his latest videos? I have consumed zero Jon content since the brouhaha.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?There’s a mod message further up the page telling people that discussion Jon’s racism is off topic, so I think this needs to be dropped.
If you want to discuss a YouTubers political views I think either OTC or the You Tube topic is the relevant place.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranI don't think this counts as a derail, but shrug, okay.

So very important question (the lives of millions may depend upon your answer): Billy Mays or Phil Swift
You're going to pay a price for every bloody thing you do and everything you don't do. You don't get to choose to not pay a price.Huh he actually acknowledged the coup that took place in the Jontron Subreddit
