Then it's the liberal's fault for not voting and letting the conservatives have their way. Laziness, pure and simple, if they're not willing to get out there in the most basic of ways to defend the rights they supposedly stand for/approve of. They can't be that liberal if they're willing to let things backtrack like that.

That's why voting is one of the most important things you can do as a citizen.

I think it's more that people who are anti-gay marriage are much more vocal and strong in their beliefs compared to those who are basically "I don't give a crap if gays marry".

Gotta love that vocal minority.

[up][up] That's definitely my experience. I live in the South, (which is supposedly super homophobic), but in my experience the rednecks I know tend to be pretty accepting of gay marriage.

Actually whenever I go to the American south most of the complaints are about lazy black people than anything about gays or other ethnic groups (well maybe complaints about Mexicans as well).

I think it's just that pro-rights people don't exactly form a convincing lobby and that's the fault of how politics work. Voter groups are based on motivation. Motivation is greater when attempting to deny people something than allowing them something.

They could always make it about denying the Religious Right control.

"Now, it's 'we won't allow gays to marry!' Tomorrow, it'll be 'nobody is allowed to have sex at all unless we say so!' Why should we let them control our lives?"

"Shit, our candidate is a psychopath. Better replace him with Newt Gingrich."

That.... would be an interesting platform, but I'm not sure how many people would believe that. Kind of want to see someone try.

But yeah, I don't really see much of the anti gay hate in the general public. But then I don't know that many people. But then, we also have Austin, which is pretty much a very blue city in a very red state. So.... yeah, it's a mixed bag. Come on Texas, go crazy liberal! <.<

Texas go liberal? Are you mad? Where would I move my armory?

Where would I move my armory?

Somewhere in Nevada, New Mexico, or Arizona.

Lots of wide-open areas where you could hide a bunker... tongue

I'd like to think that gay marriage goes perfectly with loose gun laws—they're both argued in terms of protecting people's rights.

Well, I didn't mean in the sense of giving up the guns. That's like trying to move a mountain. But I have a gay uncle who went and got married while it was legal in California. I'd like for him not to be screwed over, even if we're not that close.

Plus, it is a lot easier to be crazy liberal if you have a gun to swing around. Probably more amusing, too.

Hey, Texas went liberal in the justice system (the whole jail people forever thing)... because they completely ran out of money :D

Crazy gay liberals with guns; just what the country needs.

Well, we still have to drink water on occasion. Then again, maybe we're suffering withdrawal symptoms lately.

I'm surprised the Pink Pistols aren't more popular in Texas.

All the conservatives blocking our right to gay marriage? And also the guys who screwed over Houston's light rail system? I'm sure there's folks who would love that.

Sadly, I do not know how to shoot a gun. I am a sad excuse for a Texan.

Dude, come to NC; I'll put you through one some of the ranges. You gotta enjoy your constitutional rights; we're not the People Republic of Australia.
