Or they use Wikipedia.
I can't see Sucker Punch devs as buffy fans.
Did they reference any other tropes? If they start namedropping things like The Lancer, or Macross Missile Massacre, or Narm, then yeah, they're tropers.
Can't think of anything witty, so have this instead...Maybe, maybe not. Big Bad was popularized by Joss Wendon with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and a movie with fighting waif could have drawn inspiration from Buffy.
Big Bad was the name of the main antagonists from Monster Rancher's cartoon, and given all the claims of "Live Action Anime" its possible an "Anime" like Monster Rancher was the a partial inspiration for Sucker Punch, especially since it involves a waif fighting monsters not a female waif but there are plenty other Anime that do.

Videogames do not make you a worse person... Than you already are.I thought Big Bad was from MST 3 K.
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOI
In their latest PS Blog post they spoke tropenise. Not many people would use the term Big Bad to describe their main villain.
The writers could be lurking on this site as we speak...
