On the other hand Yuri is okay apart from her voice getting pretty worse from 2K2UM up to XIII. Mai's got better in XIII thanks to a new VA though so there's that.

Yuri got the freaking shun goku satsu in 2k1. She's okay in my book.

Yuri was always SNK's way of trolling people (usually Capcom), so she's cool. But her voice clips were better pre-03.

I kinda liked Yuri before she became a Capcom pisstake just because SNK got pissy at Dan.

I don't think it's so much being pissy as it is playful jabs at one another. If I remember right, Street Fighter 2 and Art of Fighting share have the same character designers. I don't know the specifics, but I do know that SNK (as well as Platinum and Dimps and others I'm sure) is employed by former Capcom staff.

No bring back 2002 Athena she was the best.

I must admit to frequenting websites just to ponder outfit ideas for Athena.

New outfit, the others can be DLC which I'll shamelessly buy (except '01 of course).

Picked up KOF 13 off Live, it's on "sale" for 15 bucks.

K' Ex sunglasses super is one of the coolest supers in fighting game history. Saiki is a laughably cheap boss to where I felt fully justified in using the continue service on him. I wouldn't say he's the worst SNK has dealt but he's still an SNK Boss.

I still think a lot of the sprites' heads look weird and there's some oddly janky animation transitions at timers whereas other times the animation is superb. I love SNK's attention to idle animations in this game, such as Kyo blowing his finger after his special or Benmaru fixing up his hair with electricity.

Boss Saiki is a prick really. Dark Ash is just Ash palette swapped with a flame effect and dumb buffed specials but Saiki is the real prick.

Animation is easily the best in the series though so I'm not complaining. But their heads are odd.

And yeah, fuck their credit eating bosses. Surprisingly I've never attempted to beat the game (laziness), heard Saiki was the more annoying of the two.

Like, they're well animated, but it's hard to appreciate good animations of bad designs.

Agreed on the Ikaris. I'm not a huge fan of buff Terry either, even if he his Mark of the Wolves design was kind of(?) going that route? Personally I would of liked his having a beer gut or something since he was apparently getting overweight, but I know Japan doesn't do that to none joke characters.

Kensou is so insanely dope in XIII. I've never really paid attention to him before that game and XII. If there are any more KOFs, I hope his design sticks.

I'm not as against Terry's design, since he wasn't changed nearly as much as a character compared to Ralf and especially Clark. I also prefer Leona's original outfit, if only because it's much more distinctive compared to the tank top + cargo pants look.

I like Ralf and Clark's "80s" look, they look much more menacing now (which I prefer). I will say Playmore went a bit overboard though. And Terry looked nice too although a bit "top-heavy."

Idk, guess I enjoyed the different take on the characters. Not a huge fan of how the females look though (especially Athena but I'd rather not discuss that due to possible emotional blowup).

Athena looks like a piece of crap now. I mean, okay, going back to her Psycho Soldier garb was nice but did they HAVE to make her a moeblob piece of shit face wise?

The crazy thing is, if you look at some of the early sprite designs for XIII, Athena looks a whole lot more like she did pre-XIII, while still using the XIII art-style. Same with Ralf and Clark. Why they went and did what they did with them in the end is beyond me...

Yuri looks worryingly thin too. King at lesat makes sense and isn't too bad.

And what is up with Ryo's face now.

Apparently some brainless ass with a genius sense of consistency said "let's give an 18 year old little girl eyes and a 12 year old body because it's cute and otaku love cute, but it's ok because she have adult legs like how she used to have and..." I said I didn't want to fuckin discuss this didn't I? >_>

Yeah quite the proportional disaster, old sprite design wasn't much better. Her upper half looked nice and all but what with with those tiny legs? They'd look like they'd break if she tried to kick someone.

She's a psychic; she probably keeps her legs from shattering into a shambled mess through some telekinesis BS.

Takuma looks pretty pudgy now thanks to his new baggy gi. Also he looks serious as fuck in his stance but then his forward walk he's got a fucking trollface going.

And he shrunk too lol. At least Robert turned out perfectly fine.

Ah, that makes sense (no it doesn't but I guess it's not supposed to).

XII+ Athena kind of makes senses in a way - she tailors her look to whatever's "in" at the time being a pop idol, and what's bigger than moe blobs for otaku nowadays?
