Asexuality in general:

First off, you knew who made this thread before you even clicked on it. I think.

So, basically, I'm just curious; what are your views on asexuality?

I searched for other threads on this subject, but none of them were as broad as I hoped they'd be. Myself? I pretty much find it to be one if the smallest minorities in the world, and I wish so much that my best friend and I were asexual, as my sister is. I'm not saying asexual people are freaks, but it is abnormal. Also, I am not relating this to romance (actually, I kinda doubt what I just said). It feels like "sex always needs to be involved, " or "gender determines that you must care about someone from the gender you're lusting over"... I'm confused.

Also might be related to I Want My Beloved to Be Happy and "You need to get laid."

Asexuality is abnormal but it's not dangerous. I have no problems with asexuals, unless, of course, they try to prove that asexuality is an only good choice and people who reject it are primitive slaves to biology and their own desires

Just another group of people in the all mighty sexual and romantic orientation scales. They are likely very uncommon. True asexuals that is and not people who are very late bloomers or those who just have remarkably tiny sexual appetites. Aromantic people are also just another group of people as are aromantic asexuals.

Asexuals are treated respectfully by me are aromantic sexual people and aromantic asexuals. I would prefer for them to be treated respectfully by others as well.

Also it bothers me that there is this misconception that asexual automatically means aromantic. That is not necessarily the case. I hate such assumptions a good deal. The other big one I hate is the agnostic automatically means atheist thing (which is true a lot of the time, but then you have agnostic theists like me out there).

Do I understand asexuality or aromanticy? No. Not at all really. Not on anything more than an intellectual level anyway. I have talked with romantic asexuals, aromantic asexuals, and aromantic sexual beings and I have an idea of how things are for them. I just cannot completely emphasize with them in this matter.

Is asexuality abnormal? Yes. We are a species that reproduces sexually. Does it being abnormal make it harmful? No. It's not really anything really. It's just there.

^That is the sort of asexual I would take issues with. Not because they were ace, but because they were being giant pricks about something and lording it over people.

I don't mind real asexuals, even the pushy ones; I just counter with my own hyper-sexual nature and they tend to leave me be.

What I actually don't like are the people claiming to be asexual, when really its just because they can't get laid.

If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed.

Also, people who need to tell everyone how asexual they are at any occasion are annoying, although it tend to happen to vocal parts of every sexual minority

Yes that isn't something exclusive to aces or even sexual orientations.

@Aon: agreed, though listening to one try and justify their behavior once they finally do get laid is one of the most hilarious things ever.

@nzm: anyone who talks too much about their sexuality needs to STFU.

[up] It's all over the map, depending on what you think "asexuality" is. By some definitions, I'm asexual right now, since I'm not actively getting laid.

You are not. You asked for my opinions on the subject and I have given them in full, Enzeru. If I was offended by you I would take a much more direct way of expressing it. Probably by calling you a mean name and throwing a tantrum until Morven comes in and tells me to STFU or Maddy just rapes me. Or in a less extreme case say that you are being a huge douche.

[up] Hot.

But yeah, there's a few asexuals (and "asexuals") who irritate the crud out of me, but that's just because they do stuff that'd irritate me if anyone else did it.

I have never met one outside the Internet...and only one outside TV Tropes, and judging by the stories I heard from her about she and his boyfriend, I'm not really sure if she knows what asexuality actually means [lol]

I have the same problems with asexuals like with straights, bisexuals and gays: none wink

I already was a monster, It's nice to know I have something I can blame it on now though ^_^.

Seconding this. tongue

Personally from what I've seen online asexuals tends to be pretty cool.

Why so serious?
I don't mind real asexuals, even the pushy ones; I just counter with my own hyper-sexual nature and they tend to leave me be.

What exactly is a pushy asexual like? "Hey, hot stuff, want to not have sex with me tonite?" "Ooh, baby, I got nothing for you right here!" "Nice shoes, want to play ping pong?"

What I actually don't like are the people claiming to be asexual, when really its just because they can't get laid.

How is this actually harmful to anybody?

[up] he can see inside the real them and the blackness that is their lie hurts his eyes, most likely.

Asexuality? Awesome! Mitosis is very much win. Asexuals? Meh. I'm not entirely convinced of the need for a label. Taxonomy is one thing, but most people just see another reason to give value judgements.

A pushy ace is someone who mentions it ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Bonus points if they act like they are better than you because of it.

Also that behavior worsens the image of actual asexuals and helps breed further misconceptions about them. It's also annoying.

@Mostly Benign: When I said pushy, I meant more like "Hah, I'm all above your silly biological urges and stuff".

And it harms them thusly: people who pretend eventually grow out of it. Others see this and assume that all asexuals are just "going through a phase", and don't respect that its a real thing, and a permanent one.

That and I just dislike people who front about stuff in general.
