So I'm working on a webcomic...

And the only way I know how to post it online is through a word processor, but I don't have one that I can import pictures onto. Do any of you know a place where I can download a WP that would allow me to import pictures?

Anyway, onto the comic itself. It's called "The Curse of the Wayfarer" and it centers on the Power Trio of protagonist Mal Tinree(thief), and his friends Ito Caltern (mage) and Nara Vitrel (fighter). The plot revolves around Mal and his quest to end his curse (all manner of trouble will come his way, and he must always be running after some MacGuffin or another) by finding the four elemental artifacts: the Sword of Everflame, the Cloak of Waterfall, the Mail of Wind, and the Terra Gloves. Tell me what you think!

Sounds like any other high fantasy story. From what info you provided, your story will either come off as a yawn or comes off as a quirky Postmodernism piece. Basically, how you execute the premise.

Sorta. There's a healthy amount of Lampshade Hanging, and it's very character-centric. Really, I had to boil the plot down to my tiny summary up there to avoid spoiling anything.

Try LibreOffice.

My number one tip for you: Mess with the audience's expectations. Avert 'em, subvert 'em, invert 'em, invoked 'em, exploit 'em, deconstrut 'em...but don't forget to play some of 'em straight. It's nice to have some nice, cold, vanilla ice cream sometimes.

Oh, and if it's going to be character-centric, make your trio as entertaining as possible, with a varied esemble cast to bring out every aspect of them.

Well here's the breakdown of the cast: Mal is a Genre Savvy Knife Nut Broken Hero, Nara, Beware the Nice Ones, and Ito is a Chivalrous Pervert. That's all I can think of right now.

I hope those are shoutouts! Are they Shout Outs?

Hmm...I can't wait to see these characters. Be sure to link your webcomic once it is up.

I've never watched Firefly. I've watched Cowboy Bebop, though. Does that count?

It does not count unless you know who Captain Mal and Companion Inara Serra are, unfortunately.

Also, learn to describe your work without tropes. It's good practice for the real world.

I honestly couldn't care less about your Macguffins, they tell me nothing about your story or give me any reason to want to read it. You do realize the definition of MacGuffin is an otherwise pointless object that forwards the plot, right?

I don't get what you mean by uploading using a word processor. What, exactly, are you trying to do, and what format is it going to end up in/what will it end up looking like? Is there a reason you aren't just putting your comic together as a JPEG like everyone else?

Given that this thread seems rather critical already, I really don't want to say this... but does there really need to be yet another deconstructive high fantasy webcomic? I mean, what is the problem with, say, deconstructive science fiction? Or deconstructive urban fantasy? Or something that isn't deconstructive at all? I mean, what is it with webcomic writers?

At least it's not Two Gamers on a Couch...

And what's wrong with writing a story and treating it as just a story without having to shoehorn it into so many tropes and genres and what have you?

Okay, let me explain: the comic was drawn (poorly) on paper. I scanned them but I don't have a WP that can have pictures. Oh, and by the way- Libre Office gave my computer a virus, so I had to type this on my Wii. DX

Also, this can be done for free by using a .co.cc domain and 000webhost.com or instantfreesite.com.

That still doesn't explain to me why you need a word processor at all. Word processing documents don't dovetail very well with the web, in general, and I've never heard of anyone using one to make comics*

You've got your comic drawn and scanned, so it's probably a JPEG right now (or a PDF. If it scanned as a PDF you should rescan it as a JPEG). If the original has text and everything, you should be able to post them on the Internet as-is.

If you need to add text, download GIMP (it's free) and use it to add words. You can also do it in paint but it won't look as good. Then save it again as a JPEG and you'll be good to go.

So what are you trying to do with a word processor?

You can also use Paint.NET, which is also free.
