I've been planning a story set in a psychiatric hospital for some time now. I've got the characters and their quirks worked out, but I'm unsure of what mental illness they would have. I'd like some help from some of you psychology-inclined tropers to help me out here.

Here are the main characters:

Martin Farrell

A medical student who was institutionalized after suffering a nervous breakdown while visiting his grandparents. He's obsessed with parasites of all kinds and compulsively washes his hands and keeps a notepad with numerous symptoms of rare illnesses with him at all times. He believes that there are worms living in his brain and claims to hear them crawling inside his head. Polite and quiet, though he sometimes has panic attacks where he believes that insects are crawling under his skin.

Stanley Pherick

A freelance artist who compulsively draws on any and all available surfaces. His drawings have recurring images such as men in suits with cameras for heads, faceless children, and strange black creatures that resemble squids. He believes that moving shadows are stalking him and has numerous visual and auditory hallucinations. He has had a lifelong fear of the dark and struggles with insomnia.

Thomas Kerr

A young man who was institutionalized after showing up to his sister's wedding naked and refused to leave. He often makes offensive jokes around staff and is very disrespectful of any kind of authority. He is fascinated with bombs and warfare and believes to be a descendant of a Spartan warrior. He deliberately lies to his therapists because he thinks it's funny to sabotage their efforts to understand him. He is usually insensitive and self serving but will feign empathy and kindness if he thinks it will benefit him. As a child he captured rats and abused and mutilated them, but never killed them intentionally.

For the first and second, paranoid schizophrenia with a dash of obsessive-compulsive disorder. The third seems more like a straight case of antisocial personality disorder.

Martin Farrell - delusional OCD

Stanley Pherick - Schizophrenia, most likely, or maybe temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE is often missed by psychiatrists, so he could be misdiagnosed)

Thomas Kerr - Psychopathy, possibly with some kind of delusional disorder thrown in (though lying to therapists could get him diagnosed with some wildly inaccurate things)

If I'm asking for advice on a story idea, don't tell me it can't be done.
